Frederick may be known for its famous Clustered Spires and vibrant downtown, but it's also recognized as a hub for bioscience companies and industry.  At the recent Maryland Regional Biotech Forum, leaders announced that they aim to propel the Washington, D.C. Metro Region to a top three ranked U.S. biotech hub by 2023.

Home to more than 80 bioscience companies and the northern anchor of the I-270 Technology Corridor, Frederick is already a part of the D.C. Metro Region's biotech cluster. Frederick area bioscience companies enjoy an innovative, supportive, and collaborative environment along with an excellent quality of life. Frederick is fortunate to have strong biotechnology transfer opportunities from the federal labs at Fort Detrick and the National Cancer Institute to accelerate the pace of medical research by forging unique scientific partnerships. Additionally, our highly skilled and educated workforce help support this industry.

Recently, DED staff attended the Maryland Regional Biotech Forum and the Atlantic Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics Summit. In June, Frederick will be represented at the 2015 BIO International Convention along with our peers from across Maryland. Here, we showcase the unique assets our community has to offer, and why the biosciences thrive in Frederick.

Not only does this industry provide family-supporting jobs to many residents, but we are proud that breakthrough scientific research and manufacturing conducted in Frederick helps save lives around the world.
