What is Dancing Giraffe? - An innovative internet community site: providing 'joined up' communication to people with disabilities and their carers.

Nothing like Dancing Giraffe currently exists. This website aims to not only support and inform, but to challenge, inspire and empower disabled people. It will include engaging editorial and comprehensive content, up-to-date reference and signposting together with user forums and social media.

How do we know so much about what disabled people want and need? Within the Dancing Giraffe team, a number of us are disabled, so we are providing a site that we've always wanted to use ourselves!

Dancing Giraffe is a Community Interest Company. This means we operate 'not-for-profit' as required by the CIC Regulator.

Greetings!
So with Christmas adverts abounding on the TV, and the shops starting to play the endless loop of Christmas Songs (a little too early I hear you scream!) I wanted to pretty much dedicate this newsletter to promote a lesser known event that's happening in early December.
In a joint collaboration with Essex County Council and Anglia Ruskin University, Dancing Giraffe (yes I know we have featured them before) have helped organise a massive event at Anglia Ruskin University to support the International Day for People with Disabilities, and to showcase some outstanding achievements by people with disabilities from within the local area and demonstrate what can be achieved rather than what can't! So please do read below for more information. I shall be there all day, and I'd be delighted to see as many of you as possible.
Please don't forget to nominate a charity for a feature article or maybe there is an event coming up which could do with a bit of free PR. If so please email me and I'll do my best...

International Day for People with Disabilities.

Saturday 1st December

Anglia Ruskin University

Chelmsford Rivermead Campus

10am - 4:30pm

2012 marks the 20th anniversary of the International Day for People with Disabilities (IDPwD), and Dancing Giraffe together with Chelmsford City Council and Anglia Ruskin University are hosting an event, the likes of which has never been seen before in Essex.

The day will include inspirational talks from speakers including paralympians Danny Crates and Anne Wafula Strike, speaker and marathon runner Chris Moon, and 7/7 survivor and access campaigner Daniel Biddle. There will also be demonstrations of disabled sport such as sitting volleyball, and music, including the Philip Morant Sign Choir, as well as dance performances and a business showcase. Please click here to view the What's On page for more information about the event.

All attendees should register at the reception upon arrival. Many of the talks and performances require additional tickets which are free and can be booked in advance...

In fact there are 29 separate bookable events, and whilst every single one is FREE to attend, we do suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment.

There's something for everyone:

HMRC - the new Royal Mint? - An update...

You may recall the article below from last month's issue regarding a colleague who had received a Penalty Notice from HMRC.

He started up a new company in mid March 2012, ie three weeks before the end of the financial year and when P35 Employer Annual Returns are to be completed. However he has no employees, and being new to Ltd company status was unaware of a pending issue...

In October he received a first notification that a Penalty Notice had been incurred, to the tune of £400, which by way of explanation from HMRC was £100 per month for four months. So it seems HMRC do not have to tell you that you missed the first, second or third months of delayed P35 filing status, only that in the fourth month er... you've missed four months.

The update... upon a successful appeal through his accountants the penalty notice has been withdrawn!

I should think so too!

Go grab a coffee...

There's no go grab a coffee this month, I'd hope you just spent some time looking at the IDPWD event!

But don't worry it'll be back next month.
