Greetings!
So summer has gone and dare I say it, the shops are starting on the Christmas hard sell already and we're not even half way through to Halloween! A little too early I think!
There's a couple of useful articles in this month's issue on recent legislation changes which you may find interesting, and certainly information which affects many of us.
Please don't forget to nominate a charity for a feature article or maybe there is an event coming up which could do with a bit of free PR. If so please email me and I'll do my best...

HMRC - the new Royal Mint?
| |
|
I was informed by a colleague last week of a set of circumstances which I thought I should bring to your attention.
He started up a new company in mid March 2012, ie three weeks before the end of the financial year and when P35 Employer Annual Returns are to be completed. However he has no employees, and being new to Ltd company status was unaware of a pending issue...
In October he received a first notification that a Penalty Notice had been incurred, to the tune of £400, which by way of explanation from HMRC was £100 per month for four months. So it seems HMRC do not have to tell you that you missed the first, second or third months of delayed P35 filing status, only that in the fourth month er... you've missed four months.
Now don't get me wrong, and which he will readily accept, that Ignorance of the Law is no defense etc... but come on HMRC, I know we all have to help reduce the country's deficit, but surely not this way!

National Minimum Wage and other changes
| |
|
Please be aware that new National Minimum Wage limits came into force as of 01 October.
In particular, the adult rate has increased to £6.19 per hour and the apprentice rate has increased to £2.65.
There have been a few other changes over the last year and Practical HR offer a nice, simple summary page of changes which came into force earlier this year. Click here for details...

OK so we've had the Olympics, then the Paralympics but few people no doubt will have heard of the Deaflympics.
Sadly not being hosted by GB, but next year sees the 2013 Deaflympics in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Some 2500 athletes from 77 countries took part last time in Taipei and with the ever increasing popularity of sporting heroes, next year should be no exception. Click here for more details from the BBC Ouch team.
