2nd Annual Bucksport Arts Festival, 8/13

The 2nd Annual Bucksport Arts Festival will be returning to the waterfront walkway this summer on Saturday, August 13th with a few familiar faces. Over 75% of artists who participated in 2015 have already registered for the 2016 festival, and registration continues to grow each month as new artists apply before the July 15th deadline.
It's no surprise that many artists are choosing to come back to Bucksport. The location is ideal to draw summer tourists wandering along the coastline, and the views are unmatched by any local festival. Artists that participated last year reported "it was my best single show day ever" and "it was a record breaking day". Advertised throughout the state, the festival brings in visitors and shoppers from across Maine and New England.
In addition to returning 2015 artists, several new artists will be joining the festival this coming August.
The 2nd Annual Bucksport Arts Festival will be held Saturday, August 13th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on the waterfront walkway. In addition to artists and craftspeople, there will also be local food vendors and music for all to enjoy. The event is being organized in partnership with the Bucksport Area Cultural Arts Society (BACAS), an organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the cultural and performing arts for Bucksport and surrounding communities. Visit www.bacasmaine.org for more information on their upcoming events, or to apply for the Bucksport Arts Festival.
The 2016 Bucksport Arts Festival is made possible by Seaboard Federal Credit Union with additional support by WLBZ 2. Seaboard FCU is a member-owned cooperative, whose mission is to provide quality financial services to all members at fair and reasonable rates and terms.

Better Bottles of Wine at Wicked Low Prices
From Andy: "There's a lot to be said about the month of May in Maine, even more has already been said, so I'll defer. But speaking of warmer weather, we have a couple of brilliant whites and a terrific rose to taste, along with three very nice reds and a favorite sparkling. Our old friend Jack Scully, of Easterly Wine, will return to BookStacks to talk us through the flights and answer any questions you might have about wine. Denise Gordon will prepare the munchies."

Remembrance...
Memorial Day for many of us marks the true beginning of the summer season. We plant our gardens. We hang our laundry on the line. We rejoice in the opportunity to barbeque and sit in the sun. Maybe our children even venture in for their first swim. But it is also a day to pause and to remember. On the last Monday in May, our nation honors all of the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. And so we take a moment now, to offer our thanks and our prayers to all those servicemen and women who sacrificed their own lives, in service to our country.
The Memorial Day Parade in Bucksport will begin on Elm Street at 4pm on Monday, it will make its way down Main Street to the Veteran's Memorial. Bring your red, white and blue and line the streets!
If you would like to join in a community Memorial Day Service, the Bucksport United Methodist Church is hosting one on Sunday.
You'll also find below news of summer things: Orland River Days and the River Duck Dash; hikes, bean suppers, and ice cream; a book, bake and plant sale; opening day at the Wilson Museum; and a very special opening day at The Local Variety, which is now under new management.
Wishing you peace and a heart full of gratitude...

Neighbor4Neighbor Fund Receives Anonymous Donation, Seeks Applicants
Thanks to a generous anonymous donation, the "neighbor4neighbor" Fund continues to accept 2016 applications. The Fund, administered by the Maine Community Foundation and coordinated by Healthy Acadia, provides mini-grants to seniors in need across Hancock and Washington counties. The mini-grants help to address challenges that many of our seniors face each day.
"Many seniors in our region are struggling to meet their basic needs and to stay healthy," said Elsie Flemings, Executive Director of Healthy Acadia. "This is a critical initiative, and we at Healthy Acadia are honored to be a part of it." The "neighbor4neighbor" Fund was initiated in 2014 by Maine Community Foundation founder and founding president of the College of the Atlantic Ed Kaelber in his effort to create positive change by giving back to his community. He especially encourages seniors to contribute to the fund and support their peers who are struggling.
The "neighbor4neighbor" mini-grants can help individual seniors meet a specific need, such as wheel chair ramps or handrails, to increase accessibility or mobility. It can cover the cost of optional medical equipment: eyeglasses, hearing aids, and dentures, for example. The mini-grants may also be used to provide or increase access to support services that can help seniors maintain quality of life and remain independent in their own homes.
To learn more about the "neighbor4neighbor" Fund, or if you have questions about what may be eligible, contact Nina Zeldin at Healthy Acadia at 667-7171 or nina@healthyacadia.org. To make a donation to the Fund, contact the Maine Community Foundation at 877-700-6800or www.mainecf.org. |

Hundreds of rubber ducks are "adopted" for $5.00. When you adopt a duck you will receive your certificate with your ducknumber on it. Each duck has a number on the bottom that corresponds to your adoption certificate. The ducks are dropped into the Narramissic River in Orland, and the first duck across the finish line wins. The grand prize is $500.00!!
We are hoping you will designate yourself as an "adoption center" and hold the certificates. If you can sell ten duck certificates or more we will have a very successful, fun event to bring to Orland River Day this year. Please contact us at the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce to request your certificates, 469.6818 or reply to this email.
