Purrrfect companion
Gabby is a four or five-year old, spayed female cat with brown tabby/white shorthair.
Gabby was an owner surrender. She is a very sweet cat (even though she photographs as a sour-puss!) who enjoys lounging, playing with a ball, and getting lots of attention. She will make a really great addition to a home.
Please note Gabby would do best in a home without cats or young children in it. She has received her rabies shot.

Pixie and Twitch
Twitch - 2-3 year old NEUTERED male - blue medium hair
Adoption fee: $65
Twitch came in as a stray. He is pretty quiet and likes to explore. He has really come around during his time with us and although he doesn't always want to be picked up, he has mellowed out a lot and loves to be brushed. His new best friend is Pixie - he would like it if they could be adopted together or if he had a feline companion in his new home.
Twitch got his rabies shot on 8/25/14.
Pixie - ~9 month old SPAYED female - brown patched tabby shorthair
Pixie is a delightful little girl. She gladly snuggles into your neck when you hold her. Her favorite things include being cuddled and looking out windows. Pixie is ready for a home that will adore her and play with her. She will make such a great family cat!
Pixie likes other felines and is laid back enough that she should get along with dogs. She has her rabies shot. |
|
Young Jerry
Jerry - 7 month old NEUTERED male - orange tabby shorthair
Jerry is still waiting for a home, hopefully with another cat who can show him the ropes. If you're looking for a large orange tomcat, he's your boy.
Jerry is a bit cautious about new people, but does not have a mean bone in his body. He enjoys playing with toys, climbing, and snuggling into cozy spots. |

New shops on Main Street...
Bucksport has given artists, craftspeople, nonprofits, and small businesses a great opportunity; thanks to the Chamber and the economic development director, Bucksport's Main Street's vacant property owners are supporting Pop Up stores through the month of December.
"Pop-ups" are temporary businesses that, in this case, will be popping up in currently empty store fronts on Main Street in Bucksport.
POP-UPs open this week! They will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11-7 PM and Sunday 11- 4 PM. The late hours will help enable those who work during the day to Think Local First and shop after work. Other local businesses will have later hours, as well. Please support your community by shopping local.
Among the pop-ups will be By Maine Hands, which will be directly across from the Alamo theater. Right now there are fourteen different artists and craftspeople involved in By Maine Hands. They will be constantly adding stock throughout the month of December.
The Pixel Fund, a 100% volunteer-run dog rescue based here in Maine, is also one of the pop-up stores opening today. They will be selling Maine-made gifts for people who love dogs. All of the proceeds will help rescue more dogs and save more lives.
If you're looking to do some good this Christmas season, there are still some children's wishes available on the Angel Trees in town--and the wishes must be filled by tomorrow (12/5)! You can find the trees at Seaboard Federal Credit Union and MacLeod's. Children whose parents have limited means write down their gift wish lists, and then you can select one (or more!) and do the shopping for them. It's a terrifically kind way to share in the spirit of Santa Claus. As of Tuesday night, there were only two more children's wishes waiting on the tree at MacLeod's. More details below.
The Buck Memorial Library is still collecting gifts of new books, as well as peanut butter and jelly (in plastic jars) and cinnamon and sugar (for toast) to be distributed by Bucksport Community Concerns. BookStacks will give you a 10% discount if you buy your books for this cause there. Drop off donations at the library by December 10th.
If your business or organization has special seasonal sales or items you'd like to highlight for holiday gift-giving, drop us a note and we'll do our best to help promote those specials via Facebook and the newsletter.

Angel trees in Bucksport
Every Christmas season, the mill employees used to collect a lot of donations of toys, gifts, and money for children. There was also an Angel Tree in the guard shack, where employees would take tags off with wishes they could fulfill.
This year, our community is invited to step in and fill the gap in gift-giving left by the mill's impending closure.
If you'd like to fulfill a child's Christmas wish, you can find Angel Trees at Seaboard FCU and MacLeod's.
Aimee Lozier is organizing the effort and is also accepting cash donations to help with gift buying. The redemption center will also keep up the CIFK account, and if anyone would like to donate their cans and bottles to that account they may do so. You may contact Aimee at loziam11@gmail.com.

Safe Community Partner Training 12/18
Are you willing to reach out in caring to someone you know who is not safe? Would you want to learn how you can lead them to safety and help? Would you consider coming to an informational meeting on December 18 from 4:30 to 6 pm at the Jewett Community Center in Bucksport to learn about becoming a Safe Community Partner?

Were you, someone close to you, or someone you know in your circle of friends and acquaintances, hurt in a relationship? Suffer physical and emotional abuse, sexually assaulted, bullied, isolated and controlled, or exploited financially? Know someone who knows someone in any of these situations now? Want to help, but unsure how?
Your home community and the Bucksport Bay Healthy Communities Coalition invite you to join friends, neighbors, doctors, clergy, schools, Town government, the Next Step Domestic Violence program, AMHC's Sexual Assault Services, and Legal Services for the Elderly in an ongoing effort to prevent and stop the hurting.
Last Spring the Safe Community Partner program was launched when 13 of your fellow citizens were trained to become a bridge to safety for anyone living in a hurting relationship. Offering a safe, caring and personal touch is the key to leading someone to the professionals who can protect and help.
As business owners and citizens engaged with the public on many levels, you are an important part of the mission of building safe and healthy communities, and attracting people and businesses to make their homes here.
Would you or your business consider becoming a Sponsor by making a tax-deductible gift to support the ongoing community campaign to Stop Personal Violence?
Will you stand with other citizens, and people of all ages in your home communities, who are upholding the rights of all to be treated respectfully by everyone?
Contact James Bradney at the Coalition office- 469-6682, for more information and to reserve a seat at the table on December 18th.
Thank you for caring.

Great gift ideas from My Thrill Studio
My Thrill Studio offers gift certificates in any denomination, an exciting gift for the musician in your life. As well as these creative and thoughtful gift ideas:
- Give "the gift of music" by recording a favorite song on an instrument, perhaps the baby grand piano in the studio, or vocals--no need for a band now that one can choose from a large array of karaoke tunes.
- Record your child's or grandchild's favorite story book, along with sound effects, just like you read it at bedtime--for those moments when Mommy or Daddy are away from home.
- We can't leave out the writers in the crowd who may choose to record some of their poetry or prose to give as a gift during the holiday season.
The studio also offers media transfer such as videotape to DVD (especially important for that very special event which may not have been viewed in years due to a lack of a VCR or to preserve the video recording for the future), vinyl to CD or cassette tape to CD.
Business owners--My Thrill Studio is able to produce voiceovers for radio commercials.
For those interested in learning more about the recording process, Mark does offer recording lessons, in the studio, customized to one's needs.
