On Wednesday, May 28th the incomparable Maya Angelou passed away.  She was an activist, poet, author, actress and so much more. My initial reaction was overwhelming sadness and then I paused.  I was saddened by her passing, but I felt so much joy for who she was and what she gave to the world.  She was someone who came to this earth and did what she was destined to do.  She lived as she believed, authentic, full and complete.  At the end of her earthly life, I am sure she knew that she lived remarkably, not from the aspect of material things but doing things that mattered. She lived in service of humanity, stood for what she believed and gave us the most beautiful poetry that touched your soul and inspired change.  She left an amazing legacy that if you take just a piece of it with you, it will change you.  She changed me and countless others.   If you didn't know her, I encourage you to get to know her.  You will be glad you did.  I miss her already, but I will never ever forget her.

There are many words to describe Maya Angelou. Some of my favorites are inspiring, courageous, evocative, spiritual and authentic.  One of the things I admired most about Maya was her dedication to the elevation of the human spirit and her courage to state what she truly believed.  Her authenticity allowed her to create work that moved thousands to live with hope, courage and worthiness.  One of her gifts was the ability to make you feel emotions.  Sometimes it was joy and sometimes it was sadness at other times is was many emotions, but the most important thing was that she caused you really think about how you felt about what she was saying.  You could not passively read works from Maya.  You are involved, changed and awakened by her words.

As her quote above says liberating the human mind and spirit is the most noble cause.  There are many paths to that liberation but each starts with a thought that leads to an action.  Be inspired by her words and make them part of your journey.  What part of her legacy will you take with you?

"Courage is the most important of all the virtues because without courage, you can't practice any other virtue consistently."

Sharing what I believe in the spirit of liberating the human mind and spirit...

Living with VERVE...Living with Spirit

Sitting in the seat of the authentic you and loving it

I believe

Living without worthiness is dangerous and out of sync with our soul.

The quest to be extraordinary is really the quest for your calling.

The universe will reward you for being you and doing what you love.

When you are authentically you, only truth can come of it and it affects every environment you are in.

Inspired living is as critical as breathing air.

The monster under your bed has always been the fear of not being enough of something or someone.

So Dare...

To stop being politely fed up with not living your own life...be beyond fed up!

To choose engagement over sitting it out.

To abandon the concept of being completely ready, just be willing.

To allow yourself to be seen, heard and RISE.

To own your NO setting a place for YES.

To measure you through your own eyes.

To live raggedy taking chances, falling down, skinning your knees but getting back up.

To tell the monster to shut up!

So that...

You engage with the world from the position of worthiness, authenticity, unapologetic and wonderfully imperfect and the world is blessed by your unique contribution. The monster slinks away.
