Happy New Year! I can't believe a year has gone by. There I said it and I sound like my parents. The New Year does bring with it thoughts of reflection, fresh starts and reinvention. You can really do all that at any time, but I like the milestone and focus that New Year brings. I can think of no better way to celebrate the New Year than with paying tribute to courage. Courage is the foundation of new beginnings, the impetus for change, the basis of hope and the insight to see your gifts and to use them with power.

"If there is any point at all to life, surely it is to live out our dreams, to serve, to follow our bliss, to release the music within us, play it with joy and to share it with others? Surely we have a responsibility to finally listen to - and honor - the siren calls of our souls, which have been silenced by our egos throughout our lives? How else can we connect with our essence, the source of our calling?"

"Out of our broken moments, there can come the

gift that allows us to transform

and be who we really are."

We live surrounded by things that make us fearful. The media, TV, our culture and some relationships are powered by fear with the intent of getting us to watch something, buy something or do something. Operating in fear causes us to lose sight of our goals, passions, beliefs and reality. Even our jobs can create an atmosphere of fear that creates pounding instead of inspired hearts.

While we may not have to ability to change all aspects of the swirl of the fear factory, we can change our reaction to it with courage. Become comfortable with doing 'it' afraid because you know it is the right thing to do.

"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. I felt fear myself more times than I can remember, but I hid it behind a mask of boldness. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear."

 - Nelson Mandela

I am choosing to spend 2014 inspired and to stay inspired through the most challenging situations I encounter. Will it be difficult at times? Will I fall short some times? Yes, but the cost of not living inspired is too high and robs us of joy. But, with practice and application of courage, those times will be less and less. I will ask myself, "What could I have done to be more courageous in that situation", and do that the next time. No condemnation, but a commitment to practice courage. Journal your courage journey and you will be able to see your life and perspective change over time.

I ask you to join me in a courageous 2014 and enjoy the fruits of the reconnection to your heart.   You will find it gets easier and easier to get to higher ground and you will absolutely love it there. Happy New Year!
