We live surrounded by things that make us fearful. The media, TV, our culture and some relationships are powered by fear with the intent of getting us to watch something, buy something or do something. Operating in fear causes us to lose sight of our goals, passions, beliefs and reality. Even our jobs can create an atmosphere of fear that creates pounding instead of inspired hearts.
While we may not have to ability to change all aspects of the swirl of the fear factory, we can change our reaction to it with courage. Become comfortable with doing 'it' afraid because you know it is the right thing to do.
"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. I felt fear myself more times than I can remember, but I hid it behind a mask of boldness. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear."
- Nelson Mandela
I am choosing to spend 2014 inspired and to stay inspired through the most challenging situations I encounter. Will it be difficult at times? Will I fall short some times? Yes, but the cost of not living inspired is too high and robs us of joy. But, with practice and application of courage, those times will be less and less. I will ask myself, "What could I have done to be more courageous in that situation", and do that the next time. No condemnation, but a commitment to practice courage. Journal your courage journey and you will be able to see your life and perspective change over time.
I ask you to join me in a courageous 2014 and enjoy the fruits of the reconnection to your heart. You will find it gets easier and easier to get to higher ground and you will absolutely love it there. Happy New Year!
