Starrco Dealer Case Study - W.E. Carlson
Flexible Packaging Manufacturer Needs Uncontaminated "Clean" Room
Case Overview:
Rollprint is a manufacturer of flexible packaging located in a four-building campus in Addison, IL. They were expanding production of pre-made pouches, which had to meet increasingly stringent customer requirements regarding contaminants. Some 80 percent of Rollprint's business is with the medical and pharmaceutical industries.
Problem:
The company needed to create a new "clean" room where controlled
atmospheric conditions would minimize any dust or fibers that could contaminate the production process. The room also needed to comply with ISO standards for a Class 8 clean room. Another requirement was that installation of the new room could not halt production, which often runs six or seven days per week to keep up with demand.
Solution:
W.E. Carlson suggested creating the new facility with semi-permanent modular walls, manufactured by Starrco Company. These walls would create a barrier between the clean room and the rest of the facility and would feature access windows through which completed products can be moved out of the room. The room was also equipped with high speed doors that granted employee access with minimal environmental infiltration. The doors were armed with sensors that could only open in sequence, ensuring that the room remained air locked at all times. Installation of the walls took place on schedule, and because of their modularity, there was minimal disruption during construction. Rollprint was able to keep the surrounding areas operational throughout the installation period. W.E. Carlson 1128 Pagni Drive, Elk Grove Villiage, IL 60007 847.640.0011
