Greetings!

New Leadership Directions for Jacksonville Port Ministries and Cabaret Haiti Mission

Many years ago, leaders across Jacksonville acted on a God-given vision to establish a Port Ministry here in our city.  Around 18 years ago, pastors and leaders in Jax launched an orphanage, school and church in Cabaret Haiti - among the most needy people in the poorest country in the Western hemisphere.  Over the years, God has honored these initiatives and given them leaders during various seasons, and as a result the churches of Jacksonville have been able to participate in global impact missions from right here on the First Coast.  But with time comes many changes and we need to adjust with these changes in order for these ministries to have a growing and productive future.

Recently, both of these organizations have gone through a development phase as they have been incorporated and are implementing a self-governing board of directors and leadership.  This was done in consultation and approval by the JBA Leadership Team. We applaud this step and see it as a necessary part of the growth and future of both of these ministries.  With a new development like this, there are bound to be some questions so let me take a moment to address a few:

Does this mean that the JBA is separating from these ministries?  NO, in fact we have seen with the board development in Cabaret Haiti Mission that more JBA churches are getting involved by giving leadership, counsel and taking teams. The finances and team engagement have also increased since launching this new board. New board members are nominated by the JBA nominating team, so there will remain a strong leadership connection between our two organizations. This reflects the agency relationship that the Florida Baptist Children's Home has with the Florida Baptist Convention. Their relationship was a model for us as we took this step.

Can non-JBA churches get involved with these ministries?  YES, in fact they already are. By positioning these ministries within their own organizational framework, they will be better poised to engage churches and ministries as well as governmental and business partners that may have been hesitant to partner with a denominationally-run organization.  We see this as a great positive and benefit for both the Port and for Haiti.

How will I send donations or drop off items?  You can STILL drop off items here at the JBA, as always.  Make checks payable to Cabaret Haiti Mission Inc, and starting soon, Jacksonville Port Ministries Inc.  Checks can still be mailed to the JBA office as always, 2700 University Blvd. South Jacksonville Florida 32216.

We look forward to a great season ahead of mission and life change by sharing the hope found in Jesus Christ through both of these exciting ministries!

Serving together,
