CONNECT, LEARN & GROW YOUR BUSINESS AT NEW SHOWCASE EVENT
The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce is proud to host a new opportunity for members to connect with each other and the community at the 2016 Winter Park Business Showcase & Member Mixer presented by CenturyLink. The event will be held Wednesday, August 24, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Orlando Science Center.


This evening event will focus on three areas:
  • Connect with business executives
     
  • Learn from local experts
  • Grow your business 
The event is free and open to the public. Each attendee will receive a passport to visit participating business booths to be entered in a drawing for prizes.

Free Zika Virus Forum at Rollins College
Through the Center for Health Innovation, Rollins College is doing its part to educate the community about this critical public health issue by hosting another free forum, "The Zika Virus: What You Need to Know" on June 6th. Declared a public health emergency on February 1, 2016 by the World Health Organization, this forum on the Zika Virus will help the residents of greater Central Florida community understand the history, biology, and spreading of Zika, and what they can do to stay safe. This Chamber-sponsored networking group meets twice each month on the second and fourth Tuesdays at The Bistro on Park to exchange leads at 11:45 a.m. Only one member per business category can participate. MEMBER ORIENTATION 
All new Chamber members or new staff members of existing members are invited to attend our monthly Member Orientation. This is a great way to connect with fellow members and Chamber staff, learn more about the organization and identify opportunities to maximize your membership. The next orientation is Wednesday, June 15, at 2:00 p.m. at the Winter Park Welcome Center. Healthy Central Florida: America Walks, a national advocacy organization that promotes walking and walkable communities has awarded a Walking College Fellowship to Jill Hamilton Buss, Health Central Florida's executive director.

The Alfond Inn: Chef Jason M. Klingensmith has joined the team as Executive Chef. Chef Klingensmith will lead the culinary team at The Alfond Inn and Hamilton's Kitchen. A Miami native and longtime executive chef of The Country Club of Orlando, he plans to impart a decidedly Central Florida zest to the menu at Hamilton's Kitchen.

Winter Park Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity: Winter Park Kappa Foundation, Inc. has awarded $10,000 in scholarships to five area high school seniors for academic achievement and service to their school and community. The recipients are Dylan Adlam, Apopka High School, to attend Rollins College; Stevenson Bassey, Jones High School, to attend University of Florida; Caleb Dawkins, Lake Howell High School, to attend Florida State University; Jalen Muņoz, Freedom High School, to attend Florida A&M University; and Brandhon Sweeney, Winter Park High School, to attend University of Florida. Each will receive $2,000 upon enrollment in their selected college or university.

Preserving a National Legacy: The Historic Artists' Homes & Studios Exhibit
Now - August 14; 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Visitors will see a traveling photographic exhibition organized by the Historic Artists' Homes & Studios, as well as original objects belonging to HAHS artists, including never-before-seen molds, sculpture tools, and sketches from the Polasek Archives. Explore the grand tradition of the studio and understand the importance of place that inspired these American art icons. Cost: $5 for adults / $4 for seniors / $3 for students / Children 12 and under are free.

National Doughnut Day

In honor of the sweetest day of the year, customers will receive a free doughnut of their choice. Held annually on the first Friday of June, Doughnut Day was established by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor The Salvation Army's "Doughnut Lassies," who served the treats to soldiers during World War I.

Denning Drive Community Meeting

As part of the Community Redevelopment Agency's (CRA) five-year Capital Improvement Plan, Denning Drive is one of the first projects the CRA is re-evaluating for performance, needs and possible improvements.  The Denning Drive corridor is being evaluated under the city's Complete Streets Resolution and is funded by the CRA. The intent of this evaluation is to improve the experience of walkers, bikers, bus riders and cars without compromising the function and level of service of the road. At this meeting, City staff will summarize the May 12 "walking audit" as well as present sketches and concepts based on the feedback from the first workshop. Attendees at this meeting will have the opportunity to discuss and provide input and suggestions based on the information presented.

An Evening with Diane Rehm

Diane Rehm, the host of the award-winning public affairs and call-in program "The Diane Rehm Show," will share her personal reflections on her 35-year run as host as well as timely analysis of the 2016 election. Brad Meltzer Book Signing & Fundraiser Meet-and-Greet

A fundraising meet-and-greet will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 and include a plus one and a copy of "The House of Secrets." Funds collected help support the Winter Park Public Library. A general book signing will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
