FEED THE NEED CAMPAIGN UNDERWAY
On Monday, more than 75 business and community leaders joined Rollins College President Grant Cornwell, Winter Park City Manager Randy Knight and Chamber President/CEO Patrick Chapin to kick off the third annual Feed the Need Winter Park campaign to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. CREATING AGE FRIENDLY COMMUNITIES: MAKING IT HAPPEN

Join community leaders and residents from Central Florida for an educational forum on creating age-friendly communities. The forum will be led by Dr. Kathy Black, Professor of Social Work and Gerontology at USF Sarasota-Manatee who will describe an age-friendly community, highlight its eight essential domains, and discuss how residents can become involved in making their community age friendly. Dr. Black is currently leading Age-Friendly Sarasota, a county-wide effort to promote active, happy and healthy living for people of all ages through a process of learning and sharing Sarasota County's current age-friendly features and the future aspirations of residents. American Cancer Society: An updated breast cancer screening guideline from the American Cancer Society recommends that women at average risk start regular annual screening using mammography at age 45 and transition to screening every two years starting at age 55. The guideline supports informed decision-making for women ages 40 to 44, who should have the option to begin screening early, and for women 55 and older, who should have the opportunity to continue screening every year if they choose. It is being published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

LeVar Burton: The Power of Storytelling: Written, Spoken, Lived

LeVar Burton spans the generations through his acting and activism, from Kunta Kinte in Roots (1977) to Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-94, 2002) and Reading Rainbow (1983-2009). Burton will share his life's narrative and highlight the mentors, including Rollins's well-loved Fred Rogers, who most influenced how his own story took shape. Cost: Free. 5th Annual Veterans Day Celebration - "Honoring Winter Park Heroes"

6th Annual Pumpkin Run

Thanks to the generous donations of their church family and the sale of the north lot, St. John Lutheran Church will be celebrating becoming a debt free congregation with the payoff of their mortgage with a special worship service on Sunday, November 15, 2015.  Following the service, there will be a potluck luncheon in Schaeffer Hall and then a mortgage burning ceremony in the church sanctuary.
