CREATING AGE FRIENDLY COMMUNITIES: MAKING IT HAPPEN
Join community leaders and residents from Central Florida for an educational forum on creating age-friendly communities. The forum will be led by Dr. Kathy Black, Professor of Social Work and Gerontology at USF Sarasota-Manatee who will describe an age-friendly community, highlight its eight essential domains, and discuss how residents can become involved in making their community age friendly. Dr. Black is currently leading Age-Friendly Sarasota, a county-wide effort to promote active, happy and healthy living for people of all ages through a process of learning and sharing Sarasota County's current age-friendly features and the future aspirations of residents. American Cancer Society: An updated breast cancer screening guideline from the American Cancer Society recommends that women at average risk start regular annual screening using mammography at age 45 and transition to screening every two years starting at age 55. The guideline supports informed decision-making for women ages 40 to 44, who should have the option to begin screening early, and for women 55 and older, who should have the opportunity to continue screening every year if they choose.
