The Connecticut Center for Advanced Vein Therapy is a comprehensive vein care center offering treatment for all types of veins from spider veins, to bulging varicose veins, to veins with complications such as leg ulcers. Director of The Vein Center is Duncan J. Belcher, MD and for the next few months he will be answering the most commonly asked questions concerning varicose veins and treatment.
How does Endovenous Therapy Work?
Endovenous laser therapy has been developed to treat chronic venous insufficiency by delivering laser energy through a small puncture in the leg to close the diseased vein. No surgery is required, the entire procedure can be performed in less than one hour in our office. During the procedure, you are awake and your leg is anesthetized. A thin laser fiber is inserted into the greater saphenous vein in your thigh. Our physician will then deliver laser energy through the fiber and into the vein, causing the vein to close.
The Connecticut Center for Advanced Vein Therapy is located in the Middlebury office of Diagnostic Radiology Associates at The Turnpike Office Park, 1579 Straits Turnpike. Consultations with Dr. Belcher and Dr. Eric Hyson are available by calling 203-758-1980.

Most Common Radiological Procedures
X-ray
X-ray uses a form of electromagnetic radiation that is passed through the body to create a two-dimensional image of a body part or region. X-ray is especially useful in detecting muscle or bone problems. X-rays are available at both Waterbury and Middlebury offices of DRA and no appointment is necessary.
Computed Tomography (CT)
CT uses X-rays and sophisticated computer technology to produce a series of two-dimensional images and/or to generate a three-dimensional image of a part of the body. CT scans are widely used for a variety of medical situations, such as detection of cancer, heart disease and aneurism. CT is available at our Middlebury office and prior authorization is usually necessary.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging MRI MRI uses a powerful magnetic field to produce detailed pictures of organs, soft tissue, bones, and other internal body parts. MRI is especially useful in detecting nervous system, joint, heart, and cancer related diseases. Prior authorization from your insurance carrier is usually necessary. DRA in Middlebury has the area's only 3T MRI. 3T is the most significant advance in MR image quality in the past 20 years, providing unsurpassed image quality and resolution, outperforming lower strength MRI units. 3T MRI establishes a new benchmark in imaging, providing a level of clarity, detail and speed never before possible. Prior authorization is usually necessary. Daytime and evening appointments are available.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound (also know as sonography) uses high frequency sound waves and computer technology to generate "real-time" images of the body. It is often used in obstetrics and breast imaging. DRA offers ultrasound at both of its locations in Waterbury and Middlebury and appointments are available evening and Saturdays in Waterbury.
