Dr. Mitchell Scheiman Named Director of Graduate Programs in Biomedicine

In September, Dr. Janice Scharre, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, announced the appointment of Dr. Mitchell Scheiman, dean of Research, as director of Graduate Programs in Biomedicine. Dr. Scheiman has been a professor in the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and Salus faculty member for over 34 years, and will remain as dean of Research. Read more

Dr. Janice Scharre, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs, recently announced the appointment of Dr. Jason J. Barr as the new dean of the College of Education and Rehabilitation (CER), effective September 12. In his new role as chief academic officer for CER, Dr. Barr will be responsible for ensuring the quality, content, and accreditation processes for all programs within the college. Read more

New Occupational Therapy Doctorate
Salus University is excited to launch a post-professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program this fall for those interested in advancing their career and already have a master's of science degree in Occupational Therapy. The program will be offered as a 16-month or 27-month program and will be based primarily online. Read more

SOSH Mission Trip to Haiti
Since Student Optometric Services to Humanity (SOSH) was founded at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) in 1969, Salus/PCO students and doctors participate in a yearly mission trip, bringing much needed medical eye care services to individuals living in poverty. In August, 16 students and two doctors from Salus/PCO traveled to Haiti where they examined almost 1,200 patients in the Cap-Haitien area over the course of four days, providing glasses, sunglasses, and medications when necessary. OT Students Learn by Doing: Level 1 Fieldwork at Camp Geronimo
Hands-on education is a fundamental characteristic of the Salus University Occupational Therapy (OT) program. Recently, six OT students attended Camp Geronimo, a day camp for children with disabilities, where they were assisted with daily activities and events. This type of training is specifically designed to provide students with opportunities to integrate academically acquired education with practice. Read more

Salus Welcomes New Students
Salus recently extended a warm welcome to its incoming class, as more than 320 first-year students arrived on campus for orientation this past August. Orientation week is designed to introduce students to important resources critical to their personal and academic success, as well as provide the opportunity to get to know faculty and fellow students.
