Congratulations Graduates!
Spring 2016 Commencement
Graduates, families and friends began to enter the Kimmel Center early on commencement day, Thursday, May 26. The morning rehearsal, under the direction of Dr. James Caldwell, dean of Student Affairs and Mrs. Shannon Boss, University registrar, went smoothly, leaving graduates time for lunch before a return to the Kimmel to don their caps and gowns for the 2 p.m. start. Excitement and anticipation mixed with nerves for the graduates, while the mood inside the hall was full of pride and happiness, as families and friends watched the graduates and faculty process down the aisles. With a warm welcome by Salus president, Dr. Michael H. Mittelman, the University's 110th commencement ceremony began. Read more

Blindness and Low Vision Studies Summer Orientation
Last week, Salus University College of Education and Rehabilitation, Department of Blindness and Low Vision Studies (BLVS) hosted 15 incoming students for their on-campus summer orientation - a total of 60 are enrolled in the Department's programs this summer. These students are pursuing studies either in Low Vision Rehabilitation (LVR), Orientation and Mobility (O&M), Education for Teachers of Children with Visual and Multiple Disabilities (TVI) or Vision Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT). Dr. Susan Oleszewski Named
VP for Institutional Advancement & Community Engagement
Salus president, Dr. Michael H. Mittelman, recently announced Dr. Susan Oleszewski '76, chief of staff and compliance officer, will transition to the role of vice-president for Institutional Advancement and Community Engagement, effective July 1. For nearly four decades, Dr. Oleszewski has held significant roles at PCO and Salus. Read more

Dr. Radhika Aravamudhan Transitions to OCA Interim Dean
Salus University provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, Dr. Janice Scharre, announced Dr. Radhika Aravamudhan, assistant dean for the Foundations and Assessment of Audiologic Medicine and associate professor, will transition to interim dean of the Osborne College of Audiology. Dr. Aravamudhan earned her MSc from the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing in Mysore, India, and earned her PhD from Kent State University in Audiology & Cognition. Since joining the University in 2005, Dr. Aravamudhan has held numerous administrative roles in addition to her teaching and research responsibilities. She has been an associate professor since 2010, and has been featured in numerous publications. Dr. Victor Bray has chosen to step down as dean, and will be assisting Dr. Aravamudhan as she transitions into her new role. He will remain as a faculty member, effective July 1. Additionally, Dr. George Lindley, assistant professor, has agreed to assume the position of interim assistant dean for the Foundations and Assessment of Audiologic Medicine. A search for a new dean will begin later this summer.

Dr. Melissa Trego Transitions to
PCO Interim Dean

Dr. Janice Scharre, Salus University provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, recently named Dr. Melissa Trego to the position of interim dean of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO). A 2004 PCO alumna, Dr. Trego joined PCO as a faculty member in 2006. Soon after, she completed a primary care residency at The Eye Institute while earning her PhD from Cardiff University in Wales. Since 2011, Dr. Trego has served as the associate dean for Optometric Academic Affairs, assistant professor, and clinical preceptor at The Eye Institute. Dr. Lori Grover has chosen to leave the University to pursue clinical research, educational and professional advocacy efforts. A search for a new dean will begin later this summer.

Dr. Bhawan Minhas Named Director of On-Campus Residency Programs
Dr. Maria Parisi, associate dean for Optometric Clinical Affairs at Salus University Pennsylvania College of Optometry, announced Dr. Bhawan Minhas will take over as director of On-Campus Residency Programs, effective July 1. Read more

The Salus University Alumni Association is proud to announce Gregory F. Salus Signs MOA with Community College of Philadelphia
On Wednesday, June 15, Salus University president, Dr. Michael H. Mittelman, and Community College of Philadelphia president, Dr. Donald Guy Generals, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the two institutions to bring an innovative Ophthalmic Technician Proficiency Certificate Program to Philadelphia. Salus Gets Muddy for a Good Cause: MuckFest MS Run 2016
Thousands took part in the annual MuckFest MS Philadelphia 5K Mud and Fun Run on Saturday, June 4 and 5 in Glen Mills, PA. Runners and supporters rallied together for the 5K race full of 15 mud-filled obstacles to help raise funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's research to stop the progression of the disease and ultimately end it. Over 7,300 runners conquered the course across the two day period and raised over $600,000. Read more

Brian Zuckerman Named Chief of Staff and In-House Counsel
Salus University president, Dr. Michael H. Mittelman, recently announced the appointment of Brian Zuckerman as the new chief of staff and in-house counsel. For the past 13 years, Mr. Zuckerman served as senior vice president - general counsel and secretary, for Pep Boys, a Philadelphia institution founded in 1921, two years after PCO was established. New Assistant Director of Communications
Alexis Abate, MA, director of Communications, recently announced the transition of Anna Saracino as assistant director of Communications. Ms. Saracino has served as the marketing and outreach coordinator for Clinical Operations since 2014. In that role, she helped redesign all clinical materials to align with the Salus University Health brand and assisted in the development of clinical marketing campaigns and collateral. Read more
