Bellesini Places First at MABACH Challenge!
On March 23rd, Bellesini's team won first place in the 9th Annual Northeast Nativity Network MABACH Challenge. Our team of 15 students competed with other Nativity schools from New England, New York, and Pennsylvania in a Math, Basketball and Chess Tournament (The name "MABACH" comes from the first two letters of each competition.) The tournament emphasizes academic as well as physical skills and has become an extremely popular event among the Nativity network of schools. Students meet during the after-school program to prepare to compete in three basketball games, two chess tournaments, and a series of difficult Math challenges. Congratulations to our team members!

Pasta for Pennies Fundraiser Sets School Record
Seventh Grade students Sabriel, Jean Paul, Carlos & Elijah organized and ran the fundraiser.
Once again this school year, Bellesini students organized and participated in the Olive Garden's "Pasta for Pennies" Fundraiser to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. A group of students set up boxes in each classroom and promoted the fundraiser to fellow students, asking them to donate their spare change. Every morning for three weeks at morning assembly one of the students shared information about blood cancers and how they are treated. This year, the students broke the Academy's record, raising $1,013.78 to support leukemia and lymphoma research and patient support. Seventh grade had the highest total of $360.59, and will receive a special pasta lunch from the Olive Garden.

Bellesini Parent Education Program
Bellesini parents attend a parent education program in early March.
Bellesini's Parent Partnership Program is now in its third year. All parents are asked to perform 40 hours of service to the school each year. As part of the program, all parents and guardians are required to attend at least four out of five parent education programs each school year. This year's topics include: Fostering Parent/Teacher Partnership; Taking the Rush out of Rush Hour: Tips for Less Stressful Mornings and Evenings; Supporting Children's Friendships; Helping Your Children Understand Differences and Resist Prejudice; and Healthy Meal Planning with Whole Foods Andover.
Other topics covered in past sessions include internet safety, and helping their children prepare for college. The goal of the education program is to provide Bellesini parents with resources on a wide range of topics to assist them in providing optimal support to their son and the Bellesini community.

Local Runner Jocelyn Cascio Honors Mother's Legacy of Service in Lawrence with Boston Marathon Run to Support Bellesini.
Jocelyn & her mother, Lucille Leonard
Cascio said she has always raised money for charities in her hometown of Lawrence, "as a way to improve the community but also to honor my mom, Lucille Leonard, who always did so much for Lawrence and the Merrimack Valley." This year, she will be raising funds for Bellesini Academy in Lawrence. "This school has an amazing track record of breaking the cycle of poverty through education, which is something my mom did, as the daughter of immigrants, by putting herself through school, all the way to achieving her Master's degree at Boston University, Summa Cum Laude," said Cascio. "So the work of this organization is especially meaningful and personal to me." To make a tax-deductible donation with your credit or debit card, please click on the link below:
