Harvard Medical School (HMS)-Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM)
Eleanor and Miles Shore 50th Anniversary Fellowship Program for Scholars in Medicine
The purpose of the Fellowship Program is to enhance the quality and diversity of the HMS faculty at all ranks. While both men and women may apply, this support is an important part of the effort at HMS to increase the representation of women at the higher ranks in the Faculty of Medicine. In addition, the awards may be used for protected time from clinical or laboratory responsibilities to pursue academic work, including writing a grant application, preparing a manuscript, completing a research project, or developing a new curriculum. The Fellowship is not intended to provide total support. Applicants must hold an appointment at the level of instructor or assistant professor at HMS/HSDM by January 1, 2016. Past recipients of any award from the Eleanor and Miles Shore 50th Anniversary Fellowship Program are ineligible. Fellowships are funded by HMS, HSDM, their affiliated institutes, departments, divisions, and centers, and private donors.
Amount: Up to $50,000 for 1 year

Avon Foundation for Women
Avon Breast Cancer Crusade (Avon BCC)
Avon BCC continues its search for new preventive strategies to address the growing number of breast cancer cases around the globe and develop new treatments for those living with metastatic breast cancer today. The 2016 Avon BCC Research Program seeks proposals in these areas to advance understanding of causes of breast cancer, prevention, and developing treatments for metastatic breast cancer. Research project proposals submitted to Avon BCC must utilize human studies, and researchers are highly encouraged to access the Army of Women to obtain volunteers. If a study is not utilizing the Army of Women, then the proposal must include a description of the samples that will be used in the study. Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation-American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)
The Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation-AACR Grant represents a joint effort to promote and support innovative cancer research. This grant is available to independent junior and senior investigators to develop and study new ideas and innovative approaches that have direct application and relevance to neuroendocrine tumors. Proposed research may be in any discipline of basic, translational, clinical, or epidemiological cancer research. Applications are invited from researchers currently in the field as well as investigators with experience in other areas of cancer or biomedical research who have promising ideas and approaches that can be applied to research. AACR membership is required. Non-members interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR active membership by January 12, 2016. Applicants who currently hold an active AACR grant may not apply. Current recipients of a Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation grant not administered by AACR may apply, but may not request funding for costs already supported by the existing grant. Past grantees may apply if they complied with all progress and financial report requirements. Applicants may submit only one application for the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation-AACR Grant but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants; however, applicants are expected to accept the first grant they are awarded. Applicants may accept and hold only one AACR grant at a time.

Kure It-American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)
The Kure It-AACR Research Grant for Immunotherapy in Kidney Cancer represents a joint effort to promote and support innovative cancer research. This grant is available to independent junior and senior investigators to study immunological aspects of, or treatments for, kidney cancer. Research projects should advance the basic knowledge of tumor immunology mechanisms, or develop new concepts in the treatment, control, or prevention of kidney cancer by immunology-based therapeutic approaches. Proposed projects may be basic, translational, clinical, or epidemiological in nature and must focus on cancer immunology including, but not limited to immune recognition, regulation, tumor escape, and therapeutic manipulation for kidney cancer. Applications are invited from researchers currently in the field as well as investigators with experience in other areas of cancer or biomedical immunology research who have promising ideas and approaches that can be applied to kidney cancer research. A track record of research in this specific field is not a requirement for funding. AACR membership is required. Non-members interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Active Membership by January 12, 2016. Applicants who currently hold an active AACR grant or a Kure It grant may not apply. Past AACR grantees may apply if they complied with all progress and financial report requirements. Applicants may submit only one application for the Kure It-AACR Research Grant for Immunotherapy in Kidney Cancer but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants; however, applicants are expected to accept the first grant they are awarded. Applicants may accept and hold only one AACR grant at a time.

American Heart Association (AHA)
AHA supports highly promising beginning scientists in their progress toward independence by encouraging and adequately funding research projects that can bridge the gap between completion of research training and readiness for successful competition as an independent investigator. At the time of application, the applicant must hold a faculty/staff position up to and including the rank of assistant professor (or equivalent). Applications may be submitted for review in the final year of a postdoctoral research fellowship or in the initial years of the first faculty/staff appointment. Applicants must have no more than 4 years since his/her first faculty/staff appointment (after receipt of doctoral degree) at the assistant professor level or its equivalent (including, but not limited to, research assistant professor, research scientist, staff scientist, etc.).
Amount: $77,000/ year for 3 years

American Heart Association (AHA)
The objective of this AHA grant is to encourage early career investigators to engage in introductory and pilot clinical studies that will guide future strategies for reducing cardiovascular disease and stroke, while fostering new research in clinical and translational science, and encouraging community- and population-based activities. This grant does not fund basic science or support senior researchers, but encourages mentoring of early career investigators. Applicants are not eligible to be the PI if they hold or have held certain NIH awards (such as R01, R21, P01), certain AHA awards (BGIA, SDG, EIA, GIA); or an award equivalent to any of the above (an independent investigator award). All applicants must identify a sponsor with a track record of clinical investigation.
Amount: $77,000/ year for 2 years

American Heart Association (AHA)
AHA encourages and adequately funds the most innovative and meritorious research projects from independent investigators. Proposals are encouraged from all basic, behavioral, epidemiological, and community and clinical investigations that bear on cardiovascular and stroke problems. At the time of application the applicant must hold a faculty/staff appointment of any rank (or equivalent), and must be conducting independent research.
Amount: $77,000/ year for 2 years

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN)
RAN and RAN-2 Grants are designed to streamline and accelerate progress and effect the desired change in clinical outcome for pancreatic cancer by linking synergistic capabilities, creating an efficient management structure and providing funds that can be rapidly and strategically deployed. The basis for these grants is the recognition that there is high-potential research already underway that provides a strong foundation that can contribute to the 2020 goal of doubling survival for the disease. Research Acceleration Network (RAN) Grants provide funding for research in pancreatic cancer that includes a clinical project with an endpoint that improves prevention, detection/diagnosis/ prognosis, treatment or supportive care. The clinical component must be implemented no later than the beginning of the last year of the grant term. The project must involve at least two institutions and demonstrate strong potential to improve outcomes for pancreatic cancer patients. Research Acceleration Network-2 (RAN-2) Grants provide funding for research in pancreatic cancer that includes a Phase II treatment clinical trial or a robust prevention, detection/diagnosis/prognosis or supportive care trial implemented no later than the beginning of the second year of the grant term. At least two institutions must be involved in the project, and the impact on pancreatic cancer patients should be immediate, if not as soon as possible. One applicant, designated the contact PI, and at least one co-PI from 2 distinct institutions are required. An applicant can be designated a contact PI on one application, either for a RAN or a RAN-2 Grant.
Amount: Up to $2,000,000 for 1-3 years depending on opportunity

American Gastroenterological Society (AGA)
AGA-Elsevier Gut Microbiome Pilot Research Award
The objective of this award is to provide investigators non-salary funds to help establish their research careers or support pilot projects that represent new research directions. The intent of the award is to stimulate research into the relationship of the gut microbiota to digestive health and disease by providing time for investigators to obtain new data that can ultimately lead to subsequent grant applications for more substantial funding and duration. Applicants may not hold awards directly related to the proposed research from other agencies. AGA membership is required at the time of application submission. If an applicant is granted the award and notified of a comparable award from another agency prior to the first payment of this award, the applicant must select one of the two awards. Applicants may not submit the same research project for both the AGA-Elsevier Gut Microbiome Pilot Research Award and the AGA-Elsevier Pilot Research Award. 
Amount: $25,000 for 1 year

AGA-Elsevier Pilot Research Award
The objective of this award is to provide non-salary funds for new investigators to help establish their research careers or to support pilot projects that represent new research directions for established investigators. The intent of this award is to stimulate research in gastroenterology- or hepatology-related areas by providing time for investigators to obtain new data that can ultimately lead to subsequent grant applications for more substantial funding and duration. Applicants may not hold awards directly related to the proposed research from other agencies. AGA membership is required at the time of application submission. If an applicant is granted the award and notified of a comparable award from another agency prior to the first payment of this award, the applicant must select one of the two awards. Applicants may not submit the same research project for both the AGA Elsevier Pilot Research Award and the AGA-Elsevier Gut Microbiome Pilot Research Award.

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)-Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation-Carole's Crusade for a Cure
AACR-Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation-Carol's Crusade for a Cure Foundation Career Development Award for Metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer Research represents a joint effort to encourage and support junior faculty to conduct metastatic triple negative breast cancer research and establish a successful career path in this field. Eligibility is limited to junior faculty who, at the start of the grant term, will have completed their most recent doctoral degree or medical residency within the past 11 years. The research proposed for funding may be basic, translational, or clinical in nature, and must have direct applicability and relevance to metastatic triple negative breast cancer. At the start of the grant term on July 1, 2016, applicants must hold a full-time faculty position with the title of assistant professor, instructor, research assistant professor, or the equivalent. AACR membership is required. Non-members interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR active membership by January 18, 2016. Any applicant who currently holds an active AACR grant may not apply. Past AACR grantees may apply if they complied with all progress and financial report requirements. Applicants may submit only one application for the AACR-Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation-Carol's Crusade for a Cure Foundation Career Development Award for Metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer Research but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants; however, applicants are expected to accept the first grant they are awarded. Applicants may accept and hold only one AACR grant at a time.

National Pancreas Foundation (NPF)
Research Grant
NPF supports the funding of research related to pancreatic diseases. Studies intended to advance knowledge in the areas of pancreatic carcinoma and all forms of pancreatitis would be the closest to the areas of interest of the NPF. Studies more closely related to diabetes will not be accepted. The applicant must agree to be supervised by the institution at all times while conducting research supported by the NPF.
Amount: $50,000 for 1 year

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN)
The 2016 Translational Research Grant will fund high priority pancreatic cancer research that is poised for important translational next steps in order to help move discovery to application in patients. To be eligible for a Translational Research Grant, the scientific validation of the proposed modality must already exist and the project proposed for funding should represent a practical application of this knowledge. Fundamental discovery or basic science research projects are not eligible for funding through this grant mechanism. The type of project that will qualify for funding will typically benefit from the inclusion of cross-disciplinary expertise. Therefore, applications can include one contact PI or a contact PI and a co-PI. Applicants can be a contact PI on one application and may be identified as a co-PI on a second application.
Amount: $300,000 over 2 years

American Gastroenterological Association (AGA)
AGA-Caroline Craig Augustyn & Damian Augustyn Award in Digestive Cancer
AGA supports young investigators, instructors, research associates or equivalents conducting research relevant to the pathogenesis, prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of digestive cancer. This award is intended to supplement existing career development funding. Applicants must hold a full-time faculty position. AGA membership is required at the time of application submission. Applicants must hold an NIH K series (e.g., K01, K08, K23, K99/R00) or other federal or non-federal early mentored career development award of at least 4 years duration. There must be at least 1 year remaining on the award by July 1, 2016. Applicants may not hold an R01 or equivalent such as a VA Merit award; therefore, established investigators will not be considered for this award. Physician/scientist investigators and applicants interested in translational research are especially encouraged to apply for this award.
Amount: $40,000 for 1 year

American Gastroenterological Society (AGA)
16th AGA-June & Donald O. Castell, MD, Esophageal Clinical Research Award
The objective of this award is to support investigators who have demonstrated high potential to develop independent productive research careers. Applicants must be an AGA member at the time of application submission. This award is not intended for fellows, but for junior faculty who have demonstrated unusual promise, have some record of accomplishment in research, or have established independent research programs at the time of the application. Applicants must be at or below the level of assistant professor, and his/her initial appointment to the faculty position must have been within 7 years of the time of application. Applicants must devote at least 50% of their total research effort to investigations related to esophageal function or diseases. If the applicant receives notification of extramural funding with overlapping scientific objectives prior to the start date of this award the applicant must choose between the two awards.
Amount: $25,000 for 1 year

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)
AACR Clinical and Translational Cancer Research Fellowships represent a joint effort to encourage and support postdoctoral or clinical research fellows to conduct clinical and/or translational cancer research. Proposed research projects may be in any area of clinical and/or translational cancer research. An applicant must have completed his or her most recent doctoral degree within the past 5 years (i.e., degree cannot have been conferred before July 2, 2011). AACR membership is required. Non-members interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Associate Membership by January 7, 2016. Any applicant who currently holds an active AACR grant may not apply. Past grantees may apply if they complied with all progress and financial report requirements. Applicants may submit only one application for the AACR Clinical and Translational Cancer Research Fellowships but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants; however, applicants are expected to accept the first grant they are awarded. Applicants may accept and hold only one AACR grant at a time.
Amount: $55,000 for 1 year

American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA)
ABTA seeks applications from postdoctoral fellows embarking on careers dedicated to brain tumor research. Applicants should be on track to pursue a career in brain tumor research with a mentor who has a demonstrated history of brain tumor research and mentorship. The intent of this program is to encourage talented, early-career scientists to enter, or remain in, the field of brain tumor research. As such, the ABTA hopes to help ensure a continuum of dedicated, well-trained brain tumor researchers that will emerge as the next generation of leaders in the field. Applicants must not currently hold or have previously held an ABTA Basic Research Fellowship. Applicants must commit at least 75% effort to the research project during each year of the grant period.
Amount: $50,000/ year for 2 years

Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN)
LE&RN is committed to promoting and supporting basic and translational research that fosters an interdisciplinary field of investigators conducting lymphatic research. The supported research will improve our understanding and advance the prevention, diagnosis, and novel treatments of lymphedema (primary and secondary) and other lymphatic disorders. By the funding start date of July 1, 2016, applicants must have had no more than 3 years of full-time postdoctoral research experience (eligible applicants will have begun their full-time postdoctoral work on or after July 1, 2013). Applicants must commit at least 90% time for research, or at least 70% time for research if the applicant also has clinical responsibilities. Only one applicant per mentor may apply per application cycle.
Amount: $87,396 - $98,304 for up to 2 years

American Heart Association (AHA)
The AHA postdoctoral fellowship award helps trainees initiate careers in cardiovascular and stroke research while obtaining significant research results under the supervision of a sponsor or mentor and supports individuals before they are ready for some stage of independent research. At the time of award application, applicants must have no more than 5 years of postdoctoral research training or experience. Time spent in clinical training is excluded.
Amount: $95,450 - $120,800 over 2 years

American Society of Hematology (ASH)
Research Training Award for Fellows (RTAF)
Junior Investigator Award
ASH RTAF is designed to encourage junior researchers in hematology, hematology/oncology, or other hematology-related training programs to pursue careers in academic hematology. RTAF applicants are required to be members of ASH in good standing at the time of application and for the duration of the RTAF program. Eligibility will begin on the first day of fellowship and continue for 5 years from that date, with exceptions made for leaves of absence. Assistant professors are not eligible to apply. At least 75% of the applicant's full-time professional effort must be devoted to research during the funded period. At the time of the award (July 1, 2016) the applicant must have had fewer than 5 years of research, be a second or third year fellow, not have any other career-development funding during the award period, including but not limited to, foundation and NIH mentored career development (e.g., K12, K23, K01, K08), ASCO YIA, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Clinical Scholar awards or appointed to a postdoctoral research training program (T32), and not have accepted an ASH Scholar Award. Applicants must have completed 1 year of training at the time of award, and be a second or third year fellow.
Amount: $50,000 for 1 year

American Society of Hematology (ASH)
Research Training Award for Fellows (RTAF)
Senior Investigator Award
An ASH senior award is intended for those whose project has been initiated and has preliminary data. Eligibility will begin on the first day of fellowship and continue for 5 years from that date, with exceptions made for leaves of absence. Assistant professors are not eligible to apply. At the time of application, the applicant must commit at least 75% of the applicant's full-time professional effort to research during the funded period, be in the third or fourth year of a fellowship, and not hold a position as an assistant professor. At the time of the award (July 1, 2016), the applicant must not have any other career-development funding during the award period including but not limited to, foundation and NIH career development (K12, K23, K01, K08) ASCO YIA, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Clinical Scholar awards or appointed to a postdoctoral research training program (T32), and not have accepted an ASH Scholar Award. Applicants must have completed 2 years of training at the time of award, and be a fourth or fifth year fellow.  
Amount: $50,000 for 1 year

The Medical Foundation
Charles A. King Trust Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Charles A. King Trust supports postdoctoral fellows in the basic sciences and clinical and health services research. The program supports research scientists in the mid-to late-stages of their postdoctoral research training. The primary goal of the Program is to support research that focuses on the causes of human disease and/or is aimed specifically at improving treatment for disease in humans. An applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements by the funding start date of September 1, 2016: have completed at least 3 years and no more than five 5 years of full-time postdoctoral research experience; commit at least 90% time to research; and have at least one in-press, or published peer-reviewed research article based on his or her postdoctoral work. Only one applicant per mentor may apply per application cycle; there are no institutional limitations on the number of applicants who may submit applications. An applicant may not hold a Career Development Award including an NIH K Award or equivalent, at the time of application. An applicant who receives a K Award before the funding start date of September 1, 2016 must withdraw his or her proposal or decline the King Trust Fellowship. If a K award, or faculty appointment, is obtained after the fellowship has been awarded, The Medical Foundation must be contacted, all remaining Fellowship funds must be returned and the Fellowship will be terminated.
Amount: $43,700 to $53,175/ year for 2 years
