American Liver Foundation (ALF)
The Liver Scholar Award is a basic science award that encourages young investigators to pursue a career in liver related research. Applicants must apply within the first 3 years of their first faculty appointment (including prior appointments in universities outside of North America) and commence the award within the first 4 years of faculty appointment. At the time of application or during the Liver Scholar Award cycle, the applicant cannot hold or have held any of the following awards: NIH R01, P01, R21, or any K award; AASLD Pinnacle Research Award in Liver Disease; Veterans Administration Merit Review, Associate Investigator, Research Associate, or Clinical Investigator Award, Glaxo Institute for Digestive Health Award; American Heart Association Award, or any other similar award that is intended to primarily support the salary of young investigators. Applicants may only apply for 1 award or fellowship offered by the American Liver Foundation.
Amount: $75,000/ year for 3 years

American College of Gastroenterology (ACG)
ACG Junior Faculty Development Award provides support for junior investigators working toward independent careers in clinical research in gastroenterology or hepatology. Applicants also be members of ACG at the time of application. Established investigators are not eligible. Applicants who hold an NIH grant (e.g., R01,  K08, K23), a VA HSR&D Career Development Award, or who have been granted a career development award by another organization are not eligible. Applicants who are above the assistant professor level or those who have held an academic position for greater than 7 years are not eligible. Applicants must devote at least 50% of their effort to clinical research related to gastroenterology or hepatology.
Amount: $100,000/ year for 3 years

American College of Gastroenterology (ACG)
The mission of ACG Clinical Research Awards program is to fund innovative research awards that are patient-oriented. For the purposes of these awards, patient-oriented research is defined as: (1) research conducted with human subjects, (2) research on new diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and (3) research on material of human origin such as tissues and specimens. At least one of the applicants must be an ACG member or trainee member at the time of submission of the grant proposal. Note that physicians in training (interns, residents, and fellows) are eligible to apply provided that the work is conducted under the preceptorship of a more senior or experienced investigator. In order to assure diversity among recipients, no more than 2 Clinical Research Awards will be granted to former or current principal investigators on R01, P01, U01, VA Merit Awards or Hughes grants, or to those who hold the position of full professor.
Amount: $35,000 for 1 year

American College of Gastroenterology (ACG)
The main goals of this RFA are to stimulate pilot research at smaller clinical GI training programs, thereby encouraging junior faculty to pursue a research career and to remain in academics at these institutions. The mission of ACG Clinical Research Awards program is to fund innovative research awards that are patient-oriented. Applicants must be an ACG member at the time of submission of the grant proposal. Eligible applicants will have faculty appointments at the assistant professor or clinical instructor level. This award is not intended for former or current PI's funded by R01, P01, U01, VA Merit Awards or Hughes grants, or to those who hold the position of full professor or associate professor. Applicants must identify a mentor who will oversee the academic development of the investigator.
Amount: $25,000 for 1 year

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF)
The Young Investigator Grants are designed to support scientists during their fellowship training or early in their research careers. Demonstration of outstanding mentorship and demonstration of a career plan that shows commitment to pediatric cancer investigation are critical components of a successful application. A minimum of 75% of the applicant's time during the Young Investigator period must be allocated as protected time for all research activities. This percentage of time includes both Young Investigator activities and the applicant's other research responsibilities. The applicant must not currently hold an NIH independent (R or P Award) or individual training (F or K Award) grant. Institutional training grants (T32) are permitted. A research mentor(s) must be identified and have a track record in pediatric oncology.
Amount: $50,000/ year for 3 years

Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF)-American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)
BCRF-AACR Career Development Awards for Translational Breast Cancer Research represent a joint effort to promote and support innovative research designed to accelerate the discovery, development, and application of new agents to treat breast cancer and/or for pre-clinical research with direct therapeutic intent. Eligibility is limited to junior faculty who, at the start of the grant term, will have completed their most recent doctoral degree or medical residency within the past 11 years. The research proposed for funding must be translational in nature and must have direct applicability and relevance to breast cancer. At the start of the grant term on July 1, 2016, applicants must hold a full-time, faculty position with the title of assistant professor, instructor, research assistant professor, or the equivalent. AACR membership is required. Nonmembers interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Active membership by December 15, 2015. Applicants who currently hold an active AACR grant may not apply. Past AACR grantees may apply if they complied with all progress and financial report requirements. Applicants may submit only 1 application for the Career Development Awards for Translational Breast Cancer Research but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants. However, applicants are expected to accept the first grant they are awarded. Individuals may accept and hold only 1 AACR grant at a time.

Earlier.org-Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test
Earlier.org - Friends For An Earlier Breast Cancer Test is dedicated to promoting awareness and education and to raising funds for research into earlier detection of breast cancer. The organization is requesting applications for pilot projects that focus on new methods to improve detection of early breast cancer and are especially interested in the development of new techniques in the areas of biological or immunologic methods of early detection. Applications are accepted from both established investigators who have funding but want to embark on a new area, as well as those less experienced. In either case, the proposal should represent a new approach to the area of interest.
Amount: $40,000 for 1-3 years

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF)
2016 Epidemiology Grants
These awards will support investigators pursuing research studies in human populations using epidemiological approaches aimed at improving our understanding of childhood cancer. This grant mechanism is designed to support hypothesis-driven research that focuses on the epidemiology, early detection and prevention of childhood cancer or comparative effectiveness and outcomes research related to detection, prevention and treatment. Applicants should be at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. Applicants must have a history of formal training in disciplines that are relevant to the proposed research or a track record of conducting similar epidemiological or cancer research, including peer-reviewed publications and funding, that demonstrates the project can be accomplished by the investigator.
Amount: $100,000/ year for 2 years

Dalsemer Research Grant (DA)
The objective of the Dalsemer Research Grant is to provide seed monies to junior investigators researching the mechanisms and biology of interstitial lung disease. Medical residents, those presently enrolled in a degree program (e.g., graduate students), and established investigators are not eligible to apply. Fellows and PhD post-docs are eligible to apply only if their Department Chair can assure a promotion to faculty status by the start of the award. Applicants should be on-track to pursue a career in lung disease research with a mentor who has a demonstrated history of research experience and mentorship. No other ALA award may be held concurrently with the Dalsemer Research Grant. An applicant who has previously received an ALA Biomedical, Clinical, Social-Behavioral, Dalsemer Research Grant or any other junior level independent investigator award is not eligible for additional Research Grant support. Applicants/awardees can hold active career development grants (such as K awards) but they may not hold an award of established investigatorship or large grant (e.g., R01, VA Merit Review Award) at any time during their ALA award.

Fellows and PhD post-docs are eligible to apply only if their Department Chair can assure a promotion to faculty status by the start of the award. Applicants should be on-track to pursue a career in lung disease research with a mentor who has a demonstrated history of research experience and mentorship. No other ALA award may be held concurrently with the Clinical Patient Care Research Grant. An applicant who has previously received an ALA Biomedical, Clinical, Social-Behavioral, Dalsemer Research Grant or any other junior-level independent investigator award is not eligible for additional Research Grant support.

American Lung Association (ALA)-American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Foundation (AAAAI)
Allergic Respiratory Disease Award (AI)
ALA and the AAAAI Foundation Allergic Respiratory Diseases Research Award represents a joint effort to encourage and support research on advancing the understanding of allergic respiratory disease. At the time of application, the applicant must have a primary faculty appointment in an allergy/immunology division/section of an academic institution, be undertaking a project related to allergic respiratory disease, and have completed a training fellowship. Applicants may be at any level of research experience but priority will be given to applicants at or below the rank of associate professor. No other ALA award may be held concurrently with the Allergic Respiratory Disease Award. An investigator that has previously received this award is not eligible for additional support.
Amount: $75,000/ year for 2 years

Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy (ACGT)
ACGT funds research aimed at furthering the development of cell and gene therapy approaches to the treatment of cancer. To this end, ACGT offers awards in Clinical Translation of Cell and Gene Therapy for Cancer, to qualified scientists at the assistant professor level and above. This award is specifically for those conducting Cell and Gene Therapy Research for sarcoma. Applicants must be a tenure-track or tenured faculty. Applicants must be conducting original research as an independent faculty member.
Amount: $500,000 over 2-3 years

Non-Federal Funding-Fellowships

American Society of Nephrology (ASN)
The goal of the Ben J. Lipps Research Fellowship Program is to fund nephrology fellows to conduct original, meritorious research projects. This program will foster the training of fellows, under the direction of a sponsor, who are highly motivated to make contributions to the understanding of kidney biology and disease. Applicants must be a member of ASN at the time of the fellowship application. The sponsor of the candidate must also be an ASN member at the time of the fellowship application. Applicants cannot hold another full fellowship award such as another foundation fellowship or grant or a post-doctoral research fellowship from the NIH. However, an applicant's institution may supplement the support provided by ASN. Applicants must commit a minimum of 75% time to research during the fellowship period.
Amount: $50,000/ year for 2 years

International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC)-Asia Pacific Lung Cancer Concerence (APLCC)
The purpose of IASLC is to promote the study of all aspects of lung cancer, and to disseminate information to members of the Association, the medical community at large, and the public. The IASLC provides fellowship in all aspects of lung cancer research. Applicants from the Southeast Asia area will be funded by an APLCC grant to work in a U.S./EU major center in order to obtain laboratory skills and collaboration. The goal is to reward scientific excellence and to encourage innovative investigations in the field of lung cancer prevention research and translational research with a potential impact on the management of lung cancer. Fellowship support should be requested by a PI who applies on behalf of a designated applicant. The PI must be a member of the IASLC. The work proposed by the fellow must be conducted at the PI's institution.
Amount: $40,000 for 1 year

American Association for cancer Research (AACR)-Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)
AACR-Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Young Investigator Translational Cancer Research Award provides funding to promising investigators to encourage and promote quality research in clinical oncology. The purpose of this jointly-supported award is to fund a physician-scientist during the transition from a fellowship program to a faculty appointment. Research projects are restricted to translational cancer research. At the start of the grant term on July 1, 2016, applicants must be in the last 2 years of his/her final subspecialty training (Examples of subspecialty training include, but are not limited to, a hematology-oncology fellowship, a surgical oncology fellowship, or a radiation oncology residency.) Applicants must be able to commit at least 60% of full-time effort in research (applies to total research, not just the proposed project) during the grant term and be planning an investigative career in clinical oncology. Applicants who currently hold an active AACR grant may not apply. Past grantees may apply if they complied with all progress and financial report requirements. Previous or current recipients of a Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Young Investigator Award or an AACR-Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Young Investigator Translational Cancer Research Award are not eligible. Applicants may submit only 1 application for the AACR-Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Young Investigator Translational Cancer Research Award but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants. However, applicants are expected to accept the first grant they are awarded. Applicants may accept and hold only 1 AACR grant at a time. AACR membership is required. Nonmembers interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Associate Membership by December 15, 2015.

AACR Judah Folkman Fellowship for Angiogenesis Research represents a joint effort to encourage and support a postdoctoral or clinical research fellow to conduct research in the field of tumor angiogenesis and to establish a successful career path in this field. Proposed research projects can be basic, translational, clinical, or epidemiological in nature, and must substantially advance the field of tumor angiogenesis. At the start of the grant term on July 1, 2016, applicants must have completed their most recent doctoral degree within the past five years (i.e., degree cannot have been conferred before July 2, 2011). AACR membership is required. Nonmembers interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Associate Membership by December 15, 2015. Applicants who currently hold an active AACR grant may not apply. Past grantees may apply if they complied with all progress and financial report requirements. Applicants may submit only 1 application for the AACR Judah Folkman Fellowship for Angiogenesis Research but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants. AACR-OMF Fellowship represents a joint effort to encourage and support a postdoctoral or clinical research fellow to conduct ocular/uveal melanoma research and to establish a successful career path in ophthalmology, ocular oncology, uveal melanoma biology, or a similar field. The research proposed for funding may be basic, translational, or clinical in nature, and must have direct, primary applicability, and relevance to ocular/uveal melanoma. At the start of the grant term on July 1, 2016, applicants must have completed their most recent doctoral degree within the past five years (i.e., degree cannot have been conferred before July 2, 2011). AACR membership is required. Nonmembers interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Associate Membership by December 16, 2015. Applicants who currently hold an active AACR grant may not apply. Past grantees may apply if they complied with all progress and financial report requirements. American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)-Never Too Young Coalition (N2Y)
Colon Cancer Alliance or Michael's Mission-The Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation
N2Y-AACR Fellowships in Young-Onset Colorectal Cancer Research represent a joint effort to encourage and support postdoctoral or clinical research fellows to conduct young-onset colorectal cancer research and to establish a successful career path in this field. The research proposed for funding may be basic, translational, clinical, or epidemiological in nature and should focus on understanding the mechanisms that underlie young-onset of colorectal cancer, including the biological differences between young-onset and onset of the disease over the age of 50. At the start of the grant term on July 1, 2016, applicants must have completed their most recent doctoral degree within the past 5 years (i.e., degree cannot have been conferred before July 2, 2011). AACR membership is required. Nonmembers interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Associate Membership by December 16, 2015. Applicants who currently hold an active AACR grant may not apply. Past grantees may apply if they complied with all progress and financial report requirements. Applicants may submit only 1 application for the N2Y-AACR Fellowships in Young-Onset Colorectal Cancer Research but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants. American Lung Association (ALA)
The Senior Research Training Fellowship funds researchers at important crossroads of their careers to gain long-term commitment to lung disease research. The intent of the Research Training Fellowship Award is to provide support of first-time post-doctoral research fellows as they transition toward tenure track faculty positions. Fellows are expected to devote their full time, and in no case less than 75% of their time, to research training. Fellows with small amounts of clinical training to complete or clinical activity are eligible as long as they have a minimum of 75% effort devoted to research. No other fellowship or another ALA award may be held concurrently with the Senior Research Training Fellowship Award. A fellow who has previously received an ALA Fellowship of any kind is not eligible for additional national Senior Research Training Fellowship support.
Amount: $32,500/ year for 2 years

National Cancer Cancer (NCC)
NCC has established funding for a limited number of post- doctoral fellowships for qualified applicants to receive training and experience in molecular genetics and the cellular aspects of cancer biology and tumor immunology. Preference will be given to studies that have direct relevance to the diagnosis and treatment of human cancer. Fellowships are intended for applicants under age 35 with less than 2 years of post-doctoral laboratory experience, except in extenuating circumstances. Fellowships are also limited to applicants having received no more than 1 prior fellowship or one career development award. Applicants receiving concurrent support from another organization are not eligible to apply. Awards are limited to 1 per laboratory. There can be several different applications if they are on different topics. However, only 1 award could be made per lab in any round of applications.
Amount: $82,000 over 2 years
