A-T Children's Project
Grant Proposal
A-T Children's Project strives to assist respected scientists around the world in developing a clearer understanding of ataxia-telangiectasia. A-T Children's Project is determined to find a timely cure, or life-improving treatments, for this serious disease. A-T Children's Project is currently focusing its funding efforts on proposals that apply innovative and novel strategies for suggesting, developing and evaluating specific disease-modifying and symptomatic interventions. Proposals from junior investigators, from scientists in related disciplines, and from individuals with innovative new ideas for A-T research are particularly encouraged, as are laboratories and teams working together from industry, as well as teaching universities. National as well as international scientists are welcome to apply for funding.
Amount: $75,000/ year for 2 years

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS)
Scholar Award
LLS is a national voluntary health agency dedicated to the conquest of hematologic malignancies and relevant premalignant conditions. Applicants should have held a faculty-level, tenure-track position for less than or equal to 8 years at the time of review (January 1, 2016). Applicants may submit only 1 application. There is a limit of 1 Fellow application per application cycle for each Sponsor, as well as one Special Fellow application per application cycle for each Sponsor. There is no limit to the number of applications submitted from a specific institution, nor is there a limit to the number of Scholar applications from any Sponsor. It is also acceptable for a Sponsor who currently has an active Fellow and/or Special Fellow Awardee in his/her lab to sponsor a Fellow and/or Special Fellow applicant during another award cycle. No other comparable (or better) career development award may be held prior to, or at the time of the grant start date (July 1, 2016). If a comparable (or better) career development award is obtained after receiving a Scholar Award, the LLS Award must be relinquished. Applicants must be the PI on a peer-reviewed research grant from a national agency (e.g., NIH, NSF, ACS) or other independent source that supports the research costs of proposed work. The Scholar Award is intended to further develop the independent research careers of highly qualified investigators not to support well-established or senior investigators.
Amount: $110,000/ year for 5 years

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS)
Scholar in Clinical Research Award
LLS's support of young investigators will continue to provide the foundation for the understanding and diagnosis of  cancer,  as  well  as  the  development  of  treatment and  prevention options  that  will ultimately lead to cures for  blood cancer patients. Applicants should have held a faculty-level, tenure-track position for less than or equal to 10 years at the time of review (January 1, 2016). There is a limit of 1 Fellow application per application cycle for each Sponsor, as well as 1 Special Fellow application per application cycle for each Sponsor. There is no limit to the number of applications submitted from a specific institution, nor is there a limit to the number of Scholar applications from any Sponsor. It is also acceptable for a Sponsor who currently has an active Fellow and/or Special Fellow Awardee in his/her lab to sponsor a Fellow and/or Special Fellow applicant during another award cycle. No other comparable (or better) career development award may be held prior to, or at the time of the grant start date (July 1, 2016). If a comparable (or better) career development award is obtained after receiving a Scholar in Clinical Research Award, the LLS Award must be relinquished. Applicants must be the PI on a peer-reviewed research grant from a national agency (e.g., NIH, NSF, ACS) or other independent source that supports the research costs of the proposed work. The Scholar in Clinical Research Award is intended to further develop the independent research careers of highly qualified investigators, not to support well-established or senior investigators. Applicants must have shown a capacity for independent, sustained, original clinical investigation in a field directly relevant to hematologic malignancies as documented in significant corresponding author publications in first tier, peer-reviewed journals.

The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation
Beckman Young Investigators Program (BYI)
The BYI program funds promising young scientists early in their careers who have not yet received a major award from another organization. Proposals that already have substantial funding will not be considered for the BYI award. The BYI program is open to those within the first 3 years of a tenure-track position, or an equivalent independent research appointment, at an institution that conducts research in the chemical and life sciences. No applicant may apply for a BYI award more than 2 times.
Amount: $750,000 over 4 years

Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF)
Follicular Lymphoma Pathways Grant
LRF seeks proposals for high-quality research studies in follicular lymphoma (FL). Applications to this initiative must include the study of primary FL patient samples to assure relevance to the human disease. In addition, applicants are required to explicitly delineate how the proposed research will incorporate collaborative interactions between/among investigators in different disciplines (e.g. pathology and medical oncology, basic science research and clinical investigators) and/or different institutions. Applicants are encouraged to design proposals that will complement existing LRF-funded clinical projects; ongoing clinical trials/recently completed within the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Cooperative Groups, or investigator initiated clinical trials.
Amount: $150,000/ year for 3 years

Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF)
Clinical Investigator Career Development Award
This grant is designed to provide physician investigators with support to spend 35-50% of their time implementing clinical research studies in lymphoma. All projects must be focused on hypothesis-driven clinical research in lymphoma. Applicants must be advanced fellows or junior faculty members with at least 2 years (24 months) of fellowship or postdoctoral training and no more than 5 years of experience beyond completion of his/her fellowship or postdoctoral training (the five year limit may be non-sequential) at the start of the award period (March 1, 2016). The applicant may not simultaneously receive another competitive career development award (such as NIH K series awards, ASH Physician-Scientist Career Development Awards, American Cancer Society Mentored Research Scholar Grants, and equivalents) during the period of the LRF grant.
Amount: $225,000 over 3 years

Concern Foundation
Conquer Cancer Now Award
Proposals must be hypothesis-driven and centered on cancer genetics, cancer cell biology, or cancer immunology. The Concern Foundation will not fund clinical trials, cancer epidemiology, or behavioral studies. Grants will only be awarded to independent investigators who are at the start of their scientific career (i.e., junior faculty) and are at the level of Assistant Professor (or equivalent with explanation). Priority will be given to proposals from independent investigators who have yet to obtain significant funding for their work. Applicants who are PI's on an existing R01 or equivalent are not eligible. Applicants who are notified prior to the full grant submission deadline of a clearly fundable score on an R01 or equivalent grant-in-review where he/she is PI are also not eligible.
Amount: $60,000/ year for 2 years

Alpha-1 Foundation
Research Grants
The Alpha-1 Foundation will  support  research projects involving basic science, translational and clinical research, and ethical, legal, and social issues. The objective of this grant  is to provide  funds to encourage the development of new information that contributes to the understanding of the basic biology of alpha-1 antitrypsin expression, and the pathogenesis/management of AAT Deficiency. In addition, consideration will be given to those  projects  that provide  insight  into the development  of information that may contribute to new therapies for AAT Deficiency. The PI should  devote at least 10% effort to the Research Grant.

Alpha-1 Foundation
Pilot and Feasibility Grants
The objective of this grant is to provide funds  to encourage  the development  and  testing of new hypotheses  and/or new methods in research areas relevant to AAT Deficiency. Proposed work must  be hypothesis-generating or hypothesis-testing, reflecting  innovative approaches to important questions in AAT research or development of novel  methods, and providing sufficient preliminary data to justify the Foundation's support. Results from Pilot and Feasibility Grants should lead to the submission of applications for funding from other agencies (i.e. NIH).
Amount: $40,000 for 1 year

Alpha-1 Foundation
Bridge Grants
The objective of this grant is to provide  support for excellent AAT-related research projects that have been submitted to and approved by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), but cannot be supported by the available NIH  funds. Information derived from Alpha-1 Foundation supported research studies is intended to lead to solicitation of additional, subsequent funds from other agencies such as the NIH.
Amount: $25,000 for 1 year

American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)
Conquer Cancer Foundation
Career Development Award (CDA)
The Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO CDA provides funding to clinical investigators who have received their initial faculty appointment to establish an independent clinical cancer research program. Applicants must be in the 1st to 3rd year of a full-time, primary faculty appointment in a clinical department at an academic medical institution at the time of grant submission. Applicants holding Instructor/Lecturer appointments are eligible to apply; however, the institutional letter of support must include information about the institution's commitment to support the applicant for the duration of the grant period. Applicants must be an ASCO member (Full Member or International Corresponding) or have submitted a membership application with the grant application. Applicants must be able to commit more than 50% of full-time effort in research (applies to total research, not just the proposed project) during the award period. Eligible physicians are allowed to hold only one grant from the Conquer Cancer Foundation at a time. Applicants must not have any current career development awards (ie. K23, K08, or any other type of career development award) and have not been a PI on any large project grants (ie. R01 or international equivalent, or private foundation grants). Past recipients of training fellowships (ie. Young Investigator Award or an F32 grant) are eligible. Applicants with institutional KL2/K12 grants are eligible to apply but will be asked to relinquish their institutional grant at the start of the CDA grant period (July 1, 2016).

American Cancer Society (ACS)
Jules L. Plangere Jr. Family Foundation Professor in Cancer Immunotherapy
This award is intended for an outstanding, mid-career investigator who has made seminal contributions to the field of cancer immunotherapy and who is an internationally recognized leader in the field. Applicants must be within 15 years of promotion to the rank of full Professor or the equivalent. For this award, department and division chairs are eligible to apply though administrative responsibilities will be evaluated during the review.
Amount: $80,000/ year for 5 years

Non-Federal Funding-Fellowships

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)
Special Fellow
 LLS continues to support talented blood cancer researchers in the early phase of their careers. The Special Fellow Award is for 2 or 3 years, depending on eligibility. To be eligible for a Special Fellow Award, applicants must have had their oral thesis defense, or the end of their clinical education or training, on or more recent than July 1, 2012 (for a 3 year award) or July 1, 2011 (for a 2 year award). Applicants should have at least 2 years postdoctoral experience, but less than 4.5 years of experience at the time of review (January 1, 2016). Postdoctoral experience begins on the date of the oral thesis defense (or date of degree conferral, whichever comes first), or at the end of clinical education or training. Time spent in the thesis advisor's laboratory following the thesis defense is considered postdoctoral experience. Postdoctoral experience is not defined by the start date in the current laboratory. There is a limit of 1 Fellow application per application cycle for each Sponsor, as well as 1 Special Fellow application per application cycle for each Sponsor. There is no limit to the number of applications submitted from a specific institution, nor is there a limit to the number of Scholar applications from any Sponsor. It is also acceptable for a Sponsor who currently has an active Fellow and/or Special Fellow Awardee in his/her lab to sponsor a Fellow and/or Special Fellow applicant during another award cycle. No other comparable (or better) career development award may be held by an Applicant prior to the review panel meeting (January 1, 2016). However, applicants who are selected for an Award may receive other career development awards (e.g. NIH K Awards). The Sponsor must be the head of the laboratory where the applicant's research will be performed. An applicant's postdoctoral research must be in a laboratory different than where they performed their thesis research. In addition, their Sponsor must be different than their graduate supervisor. Applicants who leave their current laboratory between full application submission (October 1, 2015) and the Award start date (July 1, 2016) are not eligible for a Special Fellow Award. Acceptance of a Special Fellow Award requires that the recipient spend at least one year in the Sponsor's laboratory as a research fellow (July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2017) before moving to another position. LLS support may not extend postdoctoral research training (excluding clinical training) beyond 7 years. Applicants can apply for either 2 or 3 years of funding to comply with this requirement.
Amount: $65,000/ year for 2-3 years

Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF)
Postdoctoral Fellowships
LRF remains dedicated to finding a cure for lymphoma through an aggressively funded research program and by supporting the next generation of lymphoma researchers. LRF maintains a strong commitment to supporting young investigators and ensuring they can build a successful career in the field of lymphoma research. LRF Postdoctoral Fellowship grant is designed to support investigators at the level of advanced fellow, postdoctoral researcher, or junior faculty member in laboratory or clinic based research with results and conclusions that must be clearly relevant to the treatment, diagnosis or prevention of Hodgkin and/or non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Applicants must devote 80% of their time to research during the award period. Applicants must have completed 2 years (24 months) of their fellowship or postdoctoral work, or no more than 2 years as a junior faculty instructor or assistant professor at the start of the award period (March 1, 2016). LRF Fellow may not hold another competitively applied for fellowship award during the period of the LRF grant, except if the fellowship is awarded as part of an NIH Institutional Training Grant (T32/K12 or equivalent). Supply and material costs for the LRF Fellowship should be supported by another grant or from institutional funds. Applicants must provide evidence of adequate research support. A previous LRF Fellow shall not be granted support other than in exceptional circumstances, which is decided on a case-by-case basis.
Amount: $105,000 over 2 years

Thrasher Research Fund
Early Career Awards
The Fund recognizes that young investigators may find it difficult to remain in pediatric research because of a lack of funding. Therefore, the purpose of this program is to encourage the development of medical research in child health by awarding small grants to new researchers, helping them gain a foothold in this important area. Those eligible to apply include: physicians who are in a residency/fellowship training program, or who completed that program no more than one year before the date of submission of the Concept Paper and postdoctoral researchers who received the doctoral level degree no more than 3 years prior to the date of submission of the Concept Paper. A new investigator who holds a National Institutes of Health (NIH) K award (including a K12 award) or a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) is not eligible to apply for the Early Career Award. A mentor may have only 1 Thrasher Research Fund Early Career Awardee at a time.
Amount: $25,000 for up to 2 years

The Hope Funds for Cancer Research
Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Hope Funds for Cancer Research is offering fellowships to postdoctoral scientists who propose to work on highly innovative research projects that challenge the traditional paradigms of understanding the causes, mechanisms, progression, disease markers, or risk factors for the most difficult-to-treat cancers, including pancreatic, lung, liver, sarcomas, esophageal, brain, gastric, bone and ovarian cancers, and rare leukemias, lymphomas and MDS. Applicants must conduct their proposed research under a sponsor who holds a formal appointment at the host institution. Applicants can apply prior to starting or during their postdoctoral appointments provided they have been formally accepted into the lab they are applying from, and current postdoctoral scientists must not have been in their Sponsor's lab for more than 2 years as of September 18, 2015. Applicants who have already accepted other postdoctoral research fellowship awards are not eligible.
Amount: $154,500 over 3 years

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Grant
The  Alpha-1  Foundation  is committed  to  finding  a  cure  for  Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency and to improving the lives of individuals affected by Alpha-1 worldwide. The  objective  of  this  grant  is  to  provide  support  for postdoctoral research fellows who  are  starting  their  research  careers  and  are working  in  the  laboratories  of  established  researchers  or  conducting research  with  the  mentorship  of  established  research. Applicants  must  indicate  a  commitment  to AAT-related research  by  focusing  50%  of  their  time  to  AAT Deficiency  research  or clinical practice.
Amount: $50,000/ year for 2 years

American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)
Conquer Cancer Foundation
Young Investigator Award (YIA)
The purpose of this award is to fund physicians during the transition from a fellowship program to a faculty appointment. The Conquer Cancer Foundation welcomes application submissions in all oncology sub-specialties. Applicants must be in the last 2 years of his/her final sub-specialty training at an academic medical institution at the time of grant submission. Applicants must be an ASCO member (Full Member, Member in Training, or International Corresponding) or have submitted a membership application with the grant application. Applicants must commit at least 60% of full-time effort in research (applies to total research, not just the proposed project) during the award period. Eligible physicians are allowed to hold only 1 grant from the Conquer Cancer Foundation at a time. Previous or current recipients of a Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Young Investigator Translational Cancer Research Award or an AACR-Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Young Investigator Translational Cancer Research Award are not eligible. Applicants may concurrently apply for the Conquer Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award and the AACR-Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Young Investigator Translational Cancer Research Award. However,applicants are expected to accept the first grant they are awarded.
