HU CFAR Feasibility Projects
HU CFAR Feasibility Projects support high-risk/high-impact feasibility studies in AIDS research that broaden the scope of the HU CFAR, emphasizing new multidisciplinary collaborations (particularly new collaborations between different Harvard institutions) that lead to successfully funded peer-reviewed research. Priority will be given to junior faculty who have no other source of funding and who are seeking support for the development of preliminary data for an NIH R01, R21, or R34-type application, in accordance with NIH policy. Applicants must have an appointment equivalent to an instructor, research associate, research scientist, assistant professor, senior research scientist, associate professor, principal research scientist, or professor at Harvard University or one of its affiliated institutions. Applications from senior investigators will not be considered for funding. Senior investigators are defined as already having NIH AIDS-related funding, R01 and above.

Scholar Awards
Scholar Awards provide salary support for promising early-career investigators in a mentored  environment as they transition to independent funding. The Scholar Award is intended to support junior investigators who are on  a career path leading to external independent or mentored (e.g.,K award) research. Scholars should be within five years of completion of post-doctoral training at the time of funding, and may be at the post-doctoral fellow, research fellow, instructor, research associate, research scientist, or assistant professor level at Harvard University or one of its affiliated institutions. Priority will be given to applicants who have no other independent source of funding. Mentors may only support one applicant from their lab and/or institution per RFP cycle.

International Myeloma Foundation (IMF)
2016 Brian D. Novis Research Award
Junior Grant Application
IMF funds several research grants including the Brian D. Novis Research Award. These awards go to researchers doing work in the field of multiple myeloma and related disorders including smoldering myeloma, MGUS (monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance) as well as immunoglobulin derived amyloidosis. Applicants must have completed postdoctoral studies or clinical fellowships no later than August 3 of the application year. Applicants must devote a minimum of 50% of his or her time to the research project during the award year.
Amount: $50,000 for 1 year

International Myeloma Foundation (IMF)
2016 Brian D. Novis Research Award
Senior Grant Application
IMF's mission is to improve the quality of life for myeloma patients while working toward prevention and a cure.Senior Grant awards are targeted to established investigators with a track record in myeloma or related disorders, and are designed for projects which represent a different focus, direction, or area of research from those in which they are currently funded. In most cases, these awards will be for pilot projects to obtain sufficient funding for larger applications from NIH or similar larger funding agencies.
Amount: $80,000 for 1 year

Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation  (The Meso Foundation, formerly known as MARF)
Grants for Mesothelioma Research
The Meso Foundation is dedicated to ending the suffering caused by mesothelioma. Eligible projects may relate to benchwork, translational or clinical research that is not presently funded. The Meso Foundation encourages all levels and degrees of scientists to apply.

American Association for cancer Research (AACR)

AACR NextGen Grants for Transformative Cancer Research

AACR NextGen Grants for Transformative Cancer Research represent a new AACR funding initiative to stimulate highly innovative research from young investigators. This grant mechanism is intended to promote and support creative, paradigm-shifting cancer research that, because of its very nature, may not otherwise be funded through existing channels. It is anticipated that the projects funded through this mechanism will have the potential to lead to major breakthroughs in the field. Eligibility is limited to junior faculty who, at the start of the grant term, have held a full-time, tenure-track appointment as an assistant professor for no more than 3 years. AACR membership is required. Nonmembers interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for active membership by August 10, 2015.  Applicants may submit only 1 LOI for the AACR NextGen Grants for Transformative Cancer Research but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants.
Amount: $150,000/ year for 3 years

Foundation for AIDS Research (amFAR)

Investment Grants-Exploring HIV Persistence and Eradication   

amfAR  is pleased to announce the availability of funding to support research by scientists outside the field of HIV that explores the potential for HIV eradication. amfAR has established a new funding mechanism, known as Investment Grants, to bring scientists to lend their experience and vision to curing HIV. Collaboration with an established HIV cure research scientist must be included to be eligible for funding. The PI must hold a faculty-level position and must have verifiable competencies outside the field of HIV. The experienced HIV scientist must hold a faculty-level position and have verifiable expertise in HIV cure research could be demonstrated by a publication record (at least three first author publications or one last author publication) or other contributions to the field.
Amount: $4,000,000 over 4 years

Prevent Cancer Foundation
2015 Grant Guidelines
The Prevent Cancer Foundation is  solely devoted to cancer prevention and early detection. Applicants must be early career researchers at the instructor or assistant professor level or more senior researchers who have shifted their area of interest toward primary and secondary cancer prevention. Applicants who applied in a previous cycle and wish to resubmit their project for reconsideration may do so only 1 time. Basic science grants must demonstrate substantial potential for impact on cancer prevention or early detection (specifically, pre-clinical research is acceptable but must be prevention-oriented and clearly identifiable as translational). Studies related to therapy for established or advanced cancer will not be reviewed.
Amount: $40,000/ year for 2 years

The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research  

Seed Grants
The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research is dedicated to advancing pancreatic cancer research, and providing information, resources, and support to pancreatic cancer patients and their families. The Seed Grant Award Program provides start-up funding for basic scientists and clinicians who intend to test innovative ideas for improving diagnosis and to develop new treatment modalities for pancreatic cancer. All levels of academic faculty (assistant, associate and full professors) are eligible, including postdoctoral fellows and young investigators after they have 2 years of completed training in pancreatic cancer research.
Amount: $50,000 for 1 year

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF)
2015 Nurse Researcher Discovery Grant
ALSF Nursing Grant Program is designed to encourage nursing research at various levels of practice. The Discovery Grant category aims to support independent and experienced nurse researchers and must include plans to disseminate and share findings to improve nursing care for children with cancer. Awards may not be used to supplement other support in a large project. Applicant must have a minimum of 7 years of experience in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing. An individual applicant or small group of nurses may apply. Applicants must demonstrate a track record of completed research projects and funding.
Amount: $50,000/ year for 2 years

American Gastroenterological Association (AGA)-Takeda PharmaceuticalsAGA-Takeda Pharmaceuticals International Research Scholar Award (RSA) in Gut Microbiome Research
The overall objective of RSA is to enable young investigators, instructors, research associates or equivalents to develop independent and productive research careers in digestive diseases by ensuring that a major proportion of their time is protected for research. AGA Membership is required at the time of application submission. Applicants  should be in the beginning years of their careers; therefore, established investigators are not appropriate candidates. At the time of application submission, applicants may not hold or have held an NIH K01, K08, K23  K99, R00, R01, R21, Veterans Affairs Career Development Award or any award with similar objectives from non-federal sources (such as the American Liver Foundation, Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation). Applicants with an active K12 may apply. Applicants are required to have a sponsor and preceptor for the award; however, 1 individual may serve in the capacity of both positions.
Amount: $90,000/ year for 3 years

American Gastroenterological Association (AGA)
AGA-R. Robert &Sally Funderberg Research Award in Gastric Cancer
The overall objective of this award is to support an established investigator in the field of gastric biology whose research will enhance the fundamental understanding of gastric cancer pathobiology in order to ultimately prevent or develop a cure for the disease. Applicants for this award must hold a full-time faculty position and must be established as an independent investigator in the field of gastric biology. Women and minority investigators are strongly encouraged to apply. AGA membership is required at the time of application submission.
Amount: $100,000 over 2 years

Wipe Out Kids' Cancer (WOKC)
Research Grants
WOKC provides grants to support meritorious research ranging from basic laboratory investigation to clinical management of pediatric cancers. Research Grants are offered to encourage the development of new information that contributes to the understanding, treatment, and cure of pediatric cancers. In addition, consideration will be given to those projects that provide insight into information that may contribute to the development of new therapies for pediatric cancers. Information derived from these studies should have high potential for sustainable future support from other funding agencies, such as NIH. Applicants must be independent investigators, or clinical or research investigators, receiving direct oversight/mentorship by an independent investigator.
Amount: Up to $150,000 for 1 year

Prevent Cancer Foundation
2015 Fellowship Awards
The Prevent Cancer Foundation supports research that demonstrates potential for impact on cancer prevention. The Foundation defines cancer prevention as the "reduction of cancer incidence through research, education and early detection". Awards are limited to postdoctoral level applicants only. Therefore, only graduate students who will have their doctoral degree before the project start date are eligible to apply. Basic science grants must demonstrate substantial potential for impact on cancer prevention or early detection (specifically, pre-clinical research is acceptable but must be prevention-oriented and clearly identifiable as translational). Studies related to therapy for established or advanced cancer will not be reviewed.
Amount: $40,000/ year for 2 years

Human Frontier Science Program Organization (HFSPO)
Long-Term Fellowships (LTF)
HFSPO supports innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems, with emphasis placed on novel approaches that cross disciplinary boundaries. Long-Term Fellowships (LTF) are for applicants in a biological discipline who will broaden their expertise by proposing a project in the life sciences which is significantly different from their previous work or postdoctoral work. Applicants must have at least 1 lead author research paper - either accepted for publication, in press, or published-in an international peer-reviewed journal by August 27, 2015 in order to be eligible to apply. Applicants cannot have spent more than 12 months in the proposed host country as of the earliest start date of the fellowship (April 1, 2016). Applicants who, on April 1, 2016, have spent more than 12 months (consecutive or not) with their proposed host supervisor are not eligible. Applicants cannot propose to return to an institution where they have worked in the past if they plan to pursue the same or a similar project. Applicants cannot propose to take up the HFSP fellowship in the country where they obtained their Ph.D.,even if the applicant is not a national of that country. Applicants cannot start to work in the proposed host institution or host country prior to April 1, 2015. Applications to move from one laboratory to another in the same country are not eligible. An applicant cannot apply to go to the country of which he/she is a national, even if pre- or postdoctoral studies were completed abroad or the Ph.D. was obtained in another country. An applicant cannot submit more than 1 HFSPO fellowship application in a competition year. Former LT or Cross-Disciplinary Fellowship (CDF) awardees cannot apply for a second HFSPO fellowship. Host supervisors can endorse only 1 application (LTF or CDF) per competition. Fellows cannot concurrently hold a LTF or CDF and another paid fellowship or employment position (i.e. salary support) from another organization. The host institution is allowed to supplement the awardee's salary
and/or research and travel costs.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF)
2015 Nurse Researcher Fellowship
The Nurse Researcher Fellowship grant aims to support early career nurse researchers who will be guided in their projects by a mentor and their institution. With support from an experienced nurse research mentor identified by ALSF, fellowship recipients will develop a team within their own institutions as well as partnerships at other institutions to implement their proposed research study. Examples of fundable projects include collecting information to answer a nursing question related to symptom assessment during cancer treatment, applying a specific intervention to decrease pain during invasive procedures, and evaluating the best method for new patient teaching. Applicants should propose a project that would require 2-3 study sites to obtain sufficient enrollment. Applicants must be within 7 years of completing the Ph.D. at the time the project would begin (i.e. those with a Ph.D. awarded in 2008 or later would be eligible to apply for a 2015 grant) and have at least five years of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing experience. Applicants must not have experience as the lead P.I. of a multi-site study. (Past participation as a site investigator is allowable) or hold a current or previous NIH grant. Applicants that have held these types of grants are encouraged to apply for ALSF Nurse Researcher Discovery grants. Applicant must not  have held a previous ALSF Discovery Grant award. (Previous ALSF Nurse Explorer or Pathfinder Grant recipients are eligible).

Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation
Fellowship Award
The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation funds early career cancer researchers who have the energy, drive and creativity to become leading innovators in their fields. The Foundation encourages all theoretical and experimental research relevant to the study of cancer and the search for cancer causes, mechanisms, therapies and prevention. Level 1 Funding: Basic and physician-scientists must have received their degrees no more than one year prior to the FAC meeting at which their applications are to be considered. Applicants must not have been in their Sponsors' labs for more than one year prior to the date of the FAC meeting at which their applications are to be considered and are expected to devote 100% of their time and effort to Damon Runyon supported research activities. Level 2 Funding: Physician-scientist applicants must have completed their residencies and clinical training at the start date of the Damon Runyon fellowship, and be able to devote at least 80% of their time and effort to Damon Runyon supported research activities. Applicants may apply at any time prior to their initial assistant professorship appointment (or equivalent); postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows and clinical instructors are eligible to apply. Candidates holding or awarded NIH K awards at the time of application are not eligible to apply. Applicants holding institutional K12 awards may apply, but must turn-back K12 funding if they are awarded a Damon Runyon Fellowship. No more than 2 Damon Runyon and/or Damon Runyon-Sohn Fellows will be funded to work with the same Sponsor at any given time. Only 1 fellowship application will be accepted from a Sponsor or Fellow per review session; there is no limit, however, to the number of applications from an institution.

Lymphatic Education & Research Newtwork (LE&RN)-Fat Disorders Research Society (FDRS)
LE&RN/FDRS Lipedema Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards Program
Lipedema is a chronic, painful disorder with a complex pathology of unknown etiology that is predominantly seen in adolescent and adult women. The LE&RN/FDRS Lipedema Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards Program was developed to stimulate and expand lipedema research, establish its clinical definition, and to understand its pathogenesis. Similarly focused studies addressing Dercum's Disease or the association of these diseases with lymphatic disease are also highly encouraged. The Program supports postdoctoral fellows early in their careers conducting either clinical, translational or basic science research. Applicant must be able to commit at least 90% time for research or, at least 70% time for research if the applicant also has clinical responsibilities. Applicant must have completed no more than 3 years of full-time postdoctoral research experience.
Amount: Up to $98,304 for 2 years
