Internal Funding Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC) Alliance Cancer Control-National Cancer Institute (NCI) Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP) Alliance Cancer Control Program Junior Faculty Award The Alliance is pleased to announce the availability of funds to support training and research initiatives for junior faculty and post-doctoral fellows in the Cancer Control Program. The purpose of these awards is to facilitate ongoing training and assist junior faculty and post-docs in establishing a competitive research profile early in their career. Junior faculty may have either an instructor or assistant professor position within their institution, and post-doctoral fellows must maintain their fellowship for the entire one-year award period. Applicants, their mentors,
and their respective institutions, must be Alliance members. Awardees must attend at least one Alliance Group meeting to present their research and be a member of a relevant Cancer Control Program committee. Amount: Up to $200,000 for 1 year Deadline: February 1, 2015 |

| American Cancer Society (ACS) Research Professor Award ACS offers grants to outstanding mid-career investigators who have made seminal contributions that have changed the direction of cancer research. In general, applicants will recently have attained the rank of full professor. Amount: $80,000/ year for 5 years Deadline: LOI; February 1, 2015
Elsa U. Pardee Foundation Cancer Research Grants The Elsa U. Pardee Foundation funds research directed toward identifying new treatments or cures for cancer. The Foundation particularly encourages grant applications which will allow establishment of capabilities of new cancer researchers, or new cancer approaches by established cancer researchers. There are no citizenship or residency restrictions. Amount: Awards are for 1 year; amounts at the applicant's discretion Deadline: February 1, 2015
Association for Research of Childhood Cancer (AROCC) Grant Application AROCC provides funding for basic science and clinical projects related to the goal of advancing knowledge in pediatric and adolescent cancers. Support is for multiple, one-year "seed type" grants, addressing basic science and/or clinical research in areas directly or indirectly related to research issues in pediatric or adolescent cancers. Applicants may submit only 1 application as principal investigator. Applicants must be U.S. residents. Amount: $30,000 for 1 year Deadline: February 1, 2015
Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA) Research Grants SFA has developed a program to provide grants to investigators interested in translational science sarcoma research. In accordance with the mission of the Foundation, research involving the development of novel agents against sarcoma, or research that could potentially lead to the development of novel agents against sarcoma, is eligible for this funding. SFA will only accept applications that focus on the following areas of research: Omic characterization of sarcomas and definition of novel targets, Omic patterns of sensitivity and resistance to existing agents, Systemic therapy combinations, and Immunotherapy. Amount: $50,000 for 1 year Deadline: February 2, 2015
American Thyroid Association (ATA) Call for Research Grant Proposals ATA is pleased to announce the availability of funds to support new investigator initiated research projects in the area of thyroid function and disease. Research awards are intended to assist new investigators in obtaining preliminary data for submission of a more substantial application i.e. (NIH). Applicants must be new investigators that are less than 6 years from completion of their post-doctoral fellowship and have never been a Principal Investigator (PI) on an NIH R01 or equivalent grant (recipients of NIH R21 and K08 awards are eligible). Applicants who have a fellowship end date prior to 2008 are not eligible. Postdoctoral fellows are eligible if their department provides written confirmation that at the time of the award the applicant will have a junior faculty position. Applications are limited to one per individual researcher. Amount: $25,000/ year for 2 years Deadline: February 2, 2015 National Kidney Foundation (NKF) 2015 Young Investigator Grant Program NKF recognizes that future improvements in the treatment and prevention of kidney disease will rest largely on the accomplishments of individuals now commencing their investigative work. Young Investigator Grants will be awarded to individuals no later than four years after initial appointment to a faculty (or equivalent) position or after appointment to a staff scientist (or equivalent) position in a research organization. Only one investigator in an institution will be supported in any funding cycle by a Young Investigator Grant. If, during the period of support by a Young Investigator Grant, the investigator obtains any type of "R"grant from the National Institutes of Health or a Merit Award from the Veterans Administration, the Young Investigator Grant will be terminated at the start of funding by the other agency. Individuals who have received "K" awards are eligible for funding under the NKF Young Investigator Grant Program. Amount: $20,000 for 1 year Deadline: February 13, 2015 Alpha-1 Foundation supports clinical, laboratory, epidemiological or any other kind of research projects aimed at developing novel medical treatments, advancing current treatment options or finding a cure for Alpha-1. This grant provides funds to encourage the development and testing of new hypotheses and/or new methods in research areas relevant to AAT Deficiency. Proposed work must be hypothesis generating or hypothesis testing, reflecting innovative approaches to important questions in AAT research or development of novel methods, and providing sufficient preliminary data to justify the Foundation's support. Results from Pilot and Feasibility Grants should lead to the submission of applications for funding from other agencies (i.e. NIH). At the conclusion of the funding term, applicants are expected to apply for further funding by other mechanisms or from outside agencies. The award is not intended to support continuation of programs begun under other granting mechanisms. Amount: $40,000 for 1 year Deadline: February 13, 2015
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)
Translational Research ProgramLLS funds new and innovative research that shows high promise for translating basic biomedical knowledge to clinical application. The goal of translational research is to reduce the time between laboratory findings and actual treatment. Applications may involve multiple institutions and the applicant should have an independent research or academic position. Applicants need not be U.S. citizens. Amount: $600,000 over 3 years Deadline: LOI; February 15, 2015 Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation Clinical Investigator Award The Damon Runyon Clinical Investigator Award supports independent young physician-scientists conducting disease-oriented research that demonstrates a high level of innovation and creativity. The goal is to support the best young physician-scientists doing work aimed at improving the practice of cancer medicine. During each award year, applicants must commit a minimum of 80% of their full-time professional effort to the conduct of research and research career development. Applicants must apply within the first 4 years of his/her initial full faculty appointment. Applicants holding or awarded R01s at the time of application are not eligible to apply. No more than two Damon Runyon Clinical Investigators will be funded to work with the same Mentor at any given time. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents. Each applicant must be nominated by his/her institution. Amount: $150,000/ year for 3 years Deadline: February 17, 2015 Leukemia Research Foundation Hollis Brownstein Research Grants Program The Leukemia Research Foundation exclusively funds New Investigators - individuals beginning to establish their own laboratories that are no longer under the tutelage of a senior scientist mentor. Preference will be given to proposals that focus on leukemia, lymphoma, MDS, and multiple myeloma. Applicants are considered within 7 years of their first independent position. Applicants with an NIH K08 or K23 are eligible. Amount: $100,000 for 1 year Deadline: February 17, 2015 A-T Children's Project Grant Proposal A-T Children's Project encourages the discovery of cellular phenotypes and target proteins that are clinically relevant to Ataxia Telangiectasia (A-T) and then to develop assays that can be used to screen for compounds that modulate those phenotypes and targets. Funding will be awarded to individual researchers or research teams whose projects are deemed most likely to ultimately identify compounds that slow the neurodegeneration experienced by patients with A-T. Applicants may apply for either phase one or two of this project, or for both phases. Amount: $150,000 over 2 years for both phases. Phase 1: $75,000 for 1 year; Phase 2: $50,000 for 1 year Deadline: March 1, 2015
Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) Established Investigator Awards MRF is committed to advancing research across the spectrum of melanoma-from prevention through diagnosis, staging, and treatment. These awards are for established melanoma researchers, or senior researchers working in closely related fields who wish to move into melanoma research. The use of relevant genetic models and human derived tumor samples is highly encouraged. PI's and co-PI's may not have an active research award with MRF. Applicants must have a title equivalent to Associate Professor or higher.
Amount: $100,000/ year for 2 years Deadline: March 1, 2015 Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) Team AwardsTeams should consist of a PI and at least one co-PI, possibly from different institutions.Teams consisting of both basic scientists and clinicians to address an unmet clinical need are encouraged, as is the inclusion of a junior scientist. The use of relevant genetic models and human derived tumor samples is required. All Team Awards must address one of the Specific Topic Proposals (STPs) identified in the request for proposals.
PI and co-PI(s) may not serve as a PI or co-PI on another application, of any type. International scientists may be eligible to participate in a Team Award as a co-PI or team member, but not as a PI. Amount: $250,000/ year for 2 years Deadline: March 1, 2015
All applications are due in the Office of Grants and Contracts five business days prior to the sponsor's deadline for DFCI review and approval prior to submission to the sponsor.

Jane Coffin Childs Memorial Fund for Medical Research Fellowship AwardsThe Jane Coffin Childs Memorial Fund for Medical Research is dedicated to providing financial support to offer highly qualified scientists the opportunity to pursue research into the causes and origins of cancer. The goal of the Fund is to provide support to the brightest individual scientists pursuing careers in cancer research while promoting and emphasizing the value and contribution of the individual. Applicants should not have more than 1 year of postdoctoral experience. Amount: $52,600/ year for 3 years Deadline: February 1, 2015 PhRMA Foundation Post Doctoral Fellowship in Translational Medicine & TherapeuticsTranslational medicine and therapeutics (TMT) is a discipline focused on bridging research and discoveries using experimental and computational technologies to their application in clinical practice. PhRMA Foundation Post Doctoral Program in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics provides stipend support for individuals engaged in such a multidisciplinary/collaborative research training program that will create or extend their credentials in this evolving area. It is anticipated that this research training will be accomplished in academic and/or industrial laboratory settings where multidisciplinary teams are organized to address problems that span the range of biological complexity rather than focus on the application of single technologies. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Amount: $60,000/ year for 2 years Deadline: February 1, 2015 Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) Career Development AwardsMRF is committed to advancing research across the spectrum of melanoma- from prevention through diagnosis, staging, and treatment. Career Development Awards are available to applicants who are beginning a research career focused on melanoma and have not yet established strong federal funding for their research are eligible. The use of relevant genetic models and human derived tumor samples is highly encouraged. Applicants who are postdoctoral fellows must have less than 5 years of postdoctoral experience and must not have previously received any major grant support (e.g. from ACS, NIH, NCI or DoD). Applicants who are not postdoctoral fellows may have a title of Research Associate or Assistant Professor, or equivalent. Amount: $50,000/ year for 2 years Deadline: March 1, 2015
