The Harvard Transdisciplinary Research in Energetics and Cancer Center (TREC)   

Within Center Funding 

TREC fosters transdisciplinary research in nutrition, physical activity, energy balance, and cancer. Investigators within the TREC Center are eligible to apply. This application process is open to all levels of researchers, subject only to guidelines of the applicant's base institution, with priority to inclusion of early career investigators. Projects for which new/early-career investigators are proposed as study PI should include a mentoring plan. The mentoring plan should be included with the full proposal.  

Amount:  $25,000 for 1 year

Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH)-National Cancer Institute (NCI)  

The Harvard Transdisciplinary Research in Energetics and Cancer Center (TREC)   

Cross-Center Funding   

The TREC cross-center developmental project program aims to support opportunities for innovative science and to enable unique opportunities for collaboration between the TREC Centers and the TREC Collaboration Center in ways that would not have occurred otherwise. Investigators within the TREC Center are eligible to apply. This application process is open to all levels of researchers, subject only to guidelines of the applicant's base institution, with priority to inclusion of early career investigators. For proposals of equal scientific merit, priority will be given to investigator members of TREC institutions and other investigators working in collaboration with TREC members.

Amount: $32,000 for 1 year

Harvard Medical School (HMS)-Boston Biomedical Innovation Center (B-BIC)

B-BIC Drive Grants 

B-BIC is a unique collaboration of academic centers, government, venture capital, and industry partners. B-BIC aims to transform the culture of academic medicine to foster the commercialization and clinical application of discovery-based and translational research for the well-being of patients and society. Applications must address unmet needs to improve healthcare outcomes and aim to generate viable diagnostic, therapeutic or device candidates for commercial development. Faculty from the B-BIC member institutions are eligible to apply. If you are a DFCI investigator that meets the grant eligibility requirements and have a project that fits this funding, please reach out to your colleagues at the supporting and participating institutes listed on the B-BIC site. 

Amount: Up to $200,000 over 2 years 

Deadline: Pre-proposals are accepted year-round

Friends For An Earlier Breast Cancer Test
Grant Application
Friends For An Earlier Breast Cancer Test is dedicated to promoting awareness and education and to raising funds for research into earlier detection of breast cancer. Applications are accepted from both established applicants who have funding but want to embark on a new area, as well as those less experienced. In either case, applications should represent a new approach to the area of interest. Funds will not be given to enhance ongoing research unless it is clear that a new line of inquiry is being explored.
Amount: $40,000 over 1-3 years

The Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer
Pilot Study Program
The Marsha Rivkin Center funds promising pilot studies in ovarian cancer. Funding is open to investigator-initiated projects in all areas of ovarian cancer research. In addition, projects designed to analyze data from already funded clinical trials will be considered. Each individual may only submit one Pilot Study or Scientific Scholar Award application to the Rivkin Center per year.
Amount: $75,000 for 1 year

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)-Kure It Cancer Research
Kure It-AACR Research Grant for Immunotherapy in Kidney Cancer
The Kure It-AACR Research Grant for Immunotherapy in Kidney Cancer represents a joint effort to promote and support innovative cancer research. This grant is available to full time, independent junior and senior investigators to study immunological aspects of, or treatments for, kidney cancer. AACR membership is required. Nonmembers interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Active Membership by December 2, 2014. Applicants who currently hold an active AACR grant or a Kure It grant may not apply. Applicants may submit only one application for the Kure It-AACR Research Grant for Immunotherapy in Kidney Cancer but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants.
Amount: $125,000/ year for 2 years

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)-The Kirk A. and Dorthy P. Landon Foundation
Landon Foundation-AACR Innovator Award for Cancer Prevention Research
The Landon Foundation-AACR Innovator Award for Cancer Prevention Research was established to recognize the outstanding achievement of a junior faculty-level scientist working in the field of cancer prevention, and support his or her novel and innovative research that, if successful, will have the potential for high impact in the cancer prevention field. AACR membership is required. Nonmembers interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Active Membership by December 9, 2014. Applicants who currently hold an active AACR grant may not apply. Applicants may submit only one application for the Landon Foundation-AACR Innovator Award for Cancer Prevention Research but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants. Applicants may accept and hold only one AACR grant at a time.
Amount: $67,500/ year for 2 years

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)-The Kirk A. and Dorthy P. Landon Foundation
Landon Foundation-AACR Innovator Award for Research in Tumor Microenvironment
The Landon Foundation-AACR supports individuals pursuing novel tumor microenvironment research. At the start of the grant term applicants must hold a full-time faculty position with the title of instructor, research assistant professor, assistant professor, or an equivalent full-time faculty position. AACR membership is required. Nonmembers interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Active Membership by December 9, 2014. Applicants who currently hold an active AACR grant may not apply. Applicants may submit only one application for the Landon Foundation- AACR Award but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants. However, applicants are expected to accept the first grant they are awarded. Applicants may accept and hold only one AACR grant at a time.
Amount: $135,000 over 2 years

LUNGevity Foundation
Lung Cancer Early Detection Award
LUNGevity Foundation is specifically focused on funding research for the early detection and successful treatment of lung cancer. Applicants may apply as individuals or in teams. It is strongly encouraged that teams be
composed of principal investigators from different institutions. Applicants  may submit only one application for the
2015 awards. Applicants with an existing LUNGevity award that would be concurrent with a 2015 award may not apply. Applicants may be at any level of research experience and must hold a faculty appointment.
Amount: $200,000 over 2-3 years for individual investigators; Up to $600,000 over 2-3 years for teams

LUNGevity Foundation
Lung Cancer Targeted Therapeutics Award
LUNGevity's mission is to improve mortality rates of lung cancer patients through the development of protocols and tools for early detection of lung cancer, early intervention in the disease progression, and targeted therapeutics,
including immuno-oncology. Applicants may submit only one application for the 2015 Awards. Applicants with an existing LUNGevity award that would be concurrent with a 2015 award may not apply. Applicants may apply as individuals or in teams. It is strongly encouraged that teams be composed of principal investigators from different institutions. Applicants may be at any level of research experience and must hold a faculty appointment.
Amount: $200,000 over 2-3 years for individual investigators; Up to $600,000 over 2-3 years for teams

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF)
2015 Epidemiology Grants
ALSF supports applications that  are designed to support hypothesis-driven research that focuses on the epidemiology, early detection and prevention of childhood cancer or comparative effectiveness and outcomes research related to detection, prevention and treatment. Principal Investigators do not need U.S. citizenship.
Amount: $100,000/ year for 2 years
Deadline: December 15, 2014

American Lung Association (ALA)
Biomedical Research Grant
ALA provides seed monies to junior investigators researching the mechanisms of lung disease and general lung biology. Applicants must hold a faculty appointment or equivalent. Fellows and post-docs are eligible to apply only if their Department Chair can assure a promotion to faculty status by the start of the award.
Amount: $40,000/ year for 2 years
Deadline: December 15, 2014

American Lunch Association (ALA)
Clinical Patient Care Research Grant
The objective of the Clinical Patient Care Research Grant is to provide seed monies to junior investigators
conducting trials for the improvement of patient care and treatment for lung disease. Applicants must hold a faculty appointment or equivalent. Fellows and post-docs are eligible to apply only if their Department Chair can assure a promotion to faculty status by the start of the award.
Amount: $40,000/ year for 2 years
Deadline: December 15, 2014

American Lung Association (ALA)
Dalsemer Research Grant
ALA provides seed monies to junior investigators researching the mechanisms and biology of interstitial lung disease. Applicants must hold a faculty appointment or equivalent with demonstrated institutional commitment. Fellows are eligible to apply only if their Department Chair can assure a promotion to faculty status by the start of the award. No other ALA award may be held concurrently with the Dalsemer Research Grant. Applicants who have previously received an ALA Biomedical, Clinical, Social-Behavioral, Dalsemer Research Grant or any other junior-level independent investigator award is not eligible for additional Research Grant support. Applicants can hold active career development grants (such as K awards) but they may not hold an award of established investigatorship or large grant (e.g., R01, VA Merit Review Award) at any time during their ALA award. Applicants are limited to submitting one application per annual cycle.
Amount: $40,000 for 1 year
Deadline: December 15, 2014


All applications are due into the Office of Grants and Contracts five business days prior to the sponsor's deadline for DFCI review and approval prior to submission to the sponsor.

The Marshal Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer
Scientific Scholar Award
The Marsha Rivkin Center Scientific Scholar Award is intended to assist promising laboratory and clinical scientists in pursuing a career as an independent investigator in ovarian cancer research. Clinicians will have completed their residency. Candidates should be at the post-doc/fellow, instructor, research assistant, or assistant professor level with no more than 3-4 years in any of these positions. Foreign and non-resident post-docs are not excluded from applying for the Scientific Scholar Award.
Amount: $60,000 for 1 year

LUNGevity Foundation
Career Development Award
LUNGevity supports future research leaders who will keep the field of lung cancer research vibrant with new ideas. Applicants may submit only one application for the 2015 awards. LUNGevity will grant only one career development award per institution. At the beginning of the grant term, applicants must be within the first five years of their faculty appointment. Applicants can be at any level of research experience. An applicant may not 
have a major award, such as an R01, DOD, or Merit review, or a Career Development Award such as a K07, K08, or K23.
Amount: $100,000/ year for 3 years

American Lung Association (ALA)
Senior Research Training Fellowship Program
ALA funds researchers at important crossroads of their careers to gain long-term commitment to lung disease
research. The intent of the Research Training Fellowship Award is to provide support of first-time post-doctoral research fellows as they transition toward tenure track faculty positions. Fellows with small amounts of clinical
training to complete or clinical activity are eligible as long as they have a minimum of 75% effort devoted to
research.
Amount: $32,500/ year for 2 years

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF)
Young Investigator Grants
ALSF Young Investigator Grants are designed as start-up funds for new scientists at the end of the fellowship training or early in their research career. Applicants must not currently hold an independent NIH grant (R or P Award). Applicants may currently have a NIH K Award. 
Amount: $50,000/ year for 2 years

The Medical Foundation
Charles A. King Trust Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program
The Charles A. King Trust Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program supports clinical or health services research scientists in the early to mid-stages of their research careers and basic scientists in the later stages of their postdoctoral research training. The primary goal of the Program is to support research that focuses on the causes of human disease and/or is aimed specifically at improving treatment for disease in humans. Only one applicant per Mentor may apply per application cycle; there are no institutional limitations on the number of applicants who may submit applications. Basic science applicants must commit at least 90% time to research. Applicants with clinical responsibilities and or clinical health applicants must have protected time of at least 70% to devote to research. For Basic Science and Clinical Research/Health Service Research, applicants may not hold a K Award at the time of application.
Amount: Up to $51,000/ year for 2 years

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)-Ocular Melanoma Foundation
AACR-Ocular Melanoma Foundation Fellowship, in honor of Robert C. Allen
AACR-Ocular Melanoma Foundation Fellowship, in honor of Robert C. Allen, represents a joint effort to encourage and support ocular/uveal melanoma research and to establish a successful career path in ophthalmology, ocular oncology, uveal melanoma cancer biology or a similar field. At the start of the grant term on July 1, 2015, applicants must be in the first five years of a postdoctoral or clinical research fellowship. Applicants who currently hold an active AACR grant may not apply. Applicants may submit only one application for the AACR-Ocular Melanoma Foundation Fellowship but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants. However, applicants are expected to accept the first grant they are awarded. Applicants may accept and hold only one AACR grant at a time. AACR membership is required. Nonmembers interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Associate Membership by December 17, 2014.
Amount: $50,000 for 1 year
