William Randolph Hearst Fund

The William Randolph Hearst Fund has been established at HMS on behalf of handicapped children.Eligibility is restricted to those appointed within the Harvard Faculty of Medicine doing research in the area of brain development withparticular emphasis on factors important for the prevention of neuromotor disabilities and on the
fundamental neurobiological mechanisms that underlie health and disease during the process of
development. Faculty at the Assistant Professor level or higher are excluded.

Amount: $50,000 for 1 year

Friends for Life Fellowship Grant & Research Grant 

Lisa Diller is inviting applications for the Friends for Life Neuroblastoma Fellowship and Research Program. Application is open to all faculty at DFCI. Please note the deadline has been extended.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF)
2015 Innovation Grant
ALSF's innovation grants are designed as seed funding for researchers with a novel approach to pediatric oncology scientific investigation. Innovation grants will support research proposals to be carried out by investigators who are already established, have a track record of peer-reviewed publications, and evidence of successfully competing for extramural funding.
Amount: $125,000/ year for 2 years

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)-Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C)-American Cancer Society (ACS)
Call for Ideas
AACR, on behalf of SU2C-ACS, calls upon members of the cancer community to contribute their ideas to the Translational Research Dream Team grant. The project should include therapeutic interventions for lung cancer, and deliver near-term patient benefit through investigation by a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional, synergistic Dream Team of expert investigators. Each Team will consist of a Dream Team Leader (DTL), a Dream Team Co-leader, at least three additional Dream Team Principals (DTP), and at least two Advocates. Dream Team Leader, Co-leader and Principals must be from different institutions. A scientist may not be funded on more than one SU2C-sponsored Dream Team grant. No more than 50% of the Principal's (including Leader and Co-leader) from a previous Dream Team may apply as a group on a new Dream Team proposal.

American Association for Cancer Research (AACRR)-Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C)-Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF)-Ovarian Cancer National Alliance (OCNA)- National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC)
Call for Ideas
AACR invites submission of ideas for a translational cancer research project that addresses critical problems in cancer and positively impacts patients in the near future. The project should include therapeutic interventions for ovarian cancer, and deliver near-term patient benefit through investigation by a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional, synergistic Dream Team of expert investigators. Each Team will consist of a Dream Team Leader (DTL), a Dream Team Co-leader, no more than four additional Dream Team Principals (DTP), and at least two Advocates. Dream Team Leader, Co-leader and Principals must be from different institutions. To maximize creativity, innovation, and collaboration, the Dream Team must include laboratory and clinical researchers, senior and/or young investigators, and senior scientists who have not worked together in the past.
Amount: $3,000,000 over 3 years

Free to Breathe
Free to Breathe 2015 Research Grant To Prevent or Stop Lung Cancer Metastasis
Free to Breathe supports high-impact and innovative lung cancer research within this area of emphasis that will result in clinical translation (e.g. clinical trial) by the end of the 3-year award period. The ultimate goal is to fund research that will result in treatments for lung cancer patients and increase survival. Applications will only be accepted from PI's engaged in non-small cell or small cell lung cancer research.
Amount: $600,000 over 3 years

Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA)
MRA Established Investigator Awards
MRA accelerates the pace of scientific discovery and translation in order to eliminate suffering and death due to melanoma. MRA is soliciting proposals that address the gap in translational science; turning scientific discoveries into tools and/or treatments for high risk individuals and melanoma patients. An investigator may serve as PI on only one proposal submitted to the MRA under any of the mechanisms in this cycle. This includes PIs on team science awards.
Amount: $125,000/ year for 2-3 years

Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA)-Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS)
Bristol-Myers Squibb-MRA Established Investigator Awards in Immunotherapy
Through the generous support of BMS, MRA is offering awards for established investigators to conduct projects supported by preliminary data and focused on advancing the immunotherapies in melanoma. Any applicant in this Established Investigator Award category proposing research focused in the field of immunotherapy may be considered for this Special Opportunity.
Amount: $125,000/ year for 2-3 years

MRA Pilot Awards are designed to establish proof-of-concept for potentially transformative ideas from established investigators. Investigators who are past the initial 4 years of their first academic faculty appointment will be considered.

Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA)-Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC),
Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer-MRA Pilot Award
In collaboration with SITC, MRA will jointly support a Pilot Award for investigators who are past the initial 4 years of their first academic faculty appointment to conduct potentially transformative pilot studies in the area of immunotherapy. Applicants should submit to the general Pilot Award program, and any applicant in this category proposing research focused in the field of immunotherapy will be considered for this Special Opportunity.
Amount: $50,000/ year for 2 years

Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA)-Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS)
Bristol-Myers Squibb-MRA Team Science Awards in Immunotherapy
MRA is offering awards for multidisciplinary teams of two or more established PI's to conduct projects with the potential to lead to transformative advances in melanoma immunotherapies. An investigator may serve as a PI, including Administrative PI and all collaborating P'Is, on only one proposal. Each team must include at least one Young Investigator as a co-investigator. An investigator may only be the designated Young Investigator on one proposal in the team science category. However, a Young Investigator Award applicant may be the designated Young Investigator on only one team science application.
Amount: $900,000 over 2-3 years

Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA)-Amgen
Amgen-MRA Established Investigator Academic-Industry Partnership Award
In collaboration with Amgen, applications are solicited for preclinical or correlative laboratory studies related to the therapeutic potential of oncolytic virus immunotherapy in melanoma, alone or in combination with immune modulators or targeted therapies. A letter of support from Amgen is required at the time of application. Amgen funds will match MRA funds.
Amount: $100,000/ year for 2-3 years

MRA Team Science Academic-Industry Partnership Awards
These awards are designed to facilitate progress via interactions between the academic and industrial research sectors in the team setting, and will be co-funded by MRA and an industrial collaborator whose involvement is essential to the project. Each team must include at least one Young Investigator as a co-investigator. An investigator may only be the designated Young Investigator on one proposal in the team science category. However, a Young Investigator Award applicant may be the designated Young Investigator on only one team science application. Applications should include a letter of support from industry to MRA to support the project for the full term of the award.
Amount: $500,000 over 2-3 years

Sidney Kimmel Foundation for Cancer Research
Kimmel Scholar Award
The Kimmel Foundation is seeking accomplished young investigators dedicated to a career in cancer research. Applications are limited to those who achieved the equivalent rank of Assistant Professor on or after July, 2011. These awards are designed for researchers who do not yet have their own R01 funding.
Amount: $100,00/ year for 2 years

Sidney Kimmel Foundation for Cancer Research
Kimmel Translational Science Award
The Kimmel Foundation provides up to five additional awards specifically for physicians engaged in translational science. Candidates must not hold R01 funding for the laboratory component of their cancer research. Applicants must  have achieved the rank of Assistant Professor on or after July, 2010
Amount: $100,000/ year for 2 years
Deadline: December 3, 2014
 

All applications are due into the Office of Grants and Contracts five business days prior to the sponsor's deadline for DFCI review and approval prior to submission to the sponsor.

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)
Anna D. Barker Fellowship in Basic Cancer Research
AACR Anna D. Barker Fellowship in Basic Cancer Research supports fellows working in any area related to basic cancer research. At the start of the grant term on July 1, 2015, applicants must be in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of a postdoctoral or clinical research fellowship. AACR membership is required. Nonmembers interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Associate Membership by Tuesday, October 28, 2014.
Amount: $50,000 for 1 year

Union for International Cancer Control (UICC)-American Cancer Society (ACS)

American Cancer Society International Fellowships for Beginning Investigators (ACSBI) 

ACSBI fellowship emphasizes the transfer of knowledge from a host institute to the applicant and others at the fellow's home institute. Preference will be given to professionals whose project potentially benefits low- and middle-income countries. Fellowships cannot be granted to candidates who are already physically present at the proposed host institute while their applications are under consideration. Applicants must be in the early phases of their career and no longer under research mentoring.   

Amount: $50,000 for 1 year

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)
Millennium Fellowships in Lymphoma Research  

AACR-Millennium Fellowships in Lymphoma Research represent a joint effort to encourage and support postdoctoral or clinical research fellows to conduct lymphoma-based research and to establish a successful career path in this field. AACR membership is required. Nonmembers interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Associate Membership by Wednesday, November 5, 2014. 

Amount: $55,000 for 1 year

Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation

2015 Granting Process 

Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation provides critical funding to researchers investigating breast cancer therapies and new effective patient treatment options. This award supports physician scientists at early stages of their clinical or research careers to enable them to develop as independent contributors in breast cancer research. Mentor letters must include a section on institutional commitment.    

Amount: $50,000/ year for 2 years

Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation  

Damon Runyon Physician-Scientist Training Award  

Damon Runyon provides funding that will enable individuals to pursue research intensively. Applicants must devote at least 80% of their time to research. Candidates holding or awarded NIH K awards at the time of application are not eligible to apply. Only one fellowship application will be accepted from a Mentor per review session; there is no limit, however, to the number of applications from an institution. No more than two awardees will be funded to work with the same Mentor at any given time.   

Amount: $460,000 over 4 years
