Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC)
A. David Mazzone Disparities Research Award
The A. David Mazzone Research Awards Program funds a series of collaborative and innovative cancer research, career development, community outreach, and training projects that address a range of needs in prostate cancer and Lupron-treatable diseases. Applications will be accepted from two or more independent investigators, at least one of whom holds a full-time Harvard faculty appointment at the level of Instructor or higher. Applications including investigators from more than one DF/HCC member institution are encouraged, as are applications that are part of the University of Massachusetts Boston-DF/HCC U54 partnership.
Amount: $35,000/ year for 2 years

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) 
2014 Friends of Dana-Farber Allocations
For 38 years, the Friends have supported a wide range of activities within the institute. Applications will be accepted from all departments at DFCI. Those from young investigators and/or new initiatives are particularly encouraged. Applicants may only submit one proposal.
Amount: $50,000 for 1 year
Deadline: June 20, 2014


Harvard Catalyst
Pilot Funding
Harvard Catalyst's Reactor Program supports proposals that apply the high-throughput laboratory automation, or small molecule or siRNA library screening capabilities of ICCB-Longwood to problems of clinical and translational importance as they pertain to human health. Applications must focus on human specimens or human disease in areas such as infectious disease or biodefense, therapeutic targets, emerging human disease pathways, gene knockdown and functional genomics, or target silencing and inhibition. Proposals using non-human disease-related samples will also be considered. All Harvard University-appointed junior and senior faculty members are encouraged to apply. You or a member of your team are required to register and attend one of two scheduled educational events, or meet with ICCB-Longwood facility experts. If you are a current user of ICCB-Longwood, and are interested in applying, you are not required to attend an educational event.
Amount: $50,000 for 1 year
Deadline: Events held on June 24, 2014 and July 16, 2014

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS)

Quest for CURES 

LLS funds projects that help identify and develop safer, more effective treatment paradigms for patients with hematological malignancies. Projects should, if successful, have a measurable impact on the diagnosis or treatment of patients with hematologic malignancies over the next 5 to 10 years.   

Amount: Up to $400,000/ year for 2 years

Children's Cardiomyopathy Foundation (CCF)
CCF Research Grant Program
CCF provides seed funding to investigators for the testing of initial hypotheses and collecting of preliminary data to help secure long-term funding by the National Institutes of Health and other major granting institutions. Applicants must reside in the United States or Canada. Applicants must  have the ability to conduct independent research with publications in established peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals.
Amount: Up to $50,000 for 1 year
Deadline: LOI; June 13, 2014

Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF)
2014 Grant Application
LCRF supports projects that work towards the prevention, treatment, and early detection of all cancers of the lung. LCRF encourages applications for projects investigating a wide variety of lung cancer research topics.
Amount: $50,000 for 1 year

Children's Leukemia Research Association (CLRA)
CLRA Research Grant Program
CLRA funds research grants for applicants who are conducting the most promising research in leukemia, in the hopes of isolating the causes and finding a cure for this dread disease. Applicants involved in research towards finding the causes and cure for leukemia may apply.
Amount: $30,000 for 1 year

North American NeuroEndocrine Tumor Society (NANETS) 
NANETS Clinical Investigator Scholarship (NCIS)
The purpose of the NANETS Clinical Investigator Scholarship is to encourage clinicians at the end of their fellowship or beginning of their faculty appointment to pursue a clinical career focused on neuroendocrine tumors. Candidates must be in the first 5 years of a faculty appointment (instructor or above). Candidates must be a NANETS member.
Amount: $50,000 for 1 year

Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation
Innovation Award
The Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Award is designed to provide support for the next generation of exceptionally creative thinkers with "high-risk/high-reward" ideas that have the potential to significantly impact our understanding of and/or approaches to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of cancer. Applicants are expected to commit a minimum of 80% of their time to conducting research. Applicants may apply no more than two times.
Amount: $450,000 for 3 years
Deadline: July 1, 2014

American Heart Association (AHA)
National Innovative Research Grant (IRG)
AHA supports applications that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will accelerate the field of cardiovascular and stroke research. Candidates with a faculty (or faculty equivalent) appointment are eligible to apply. Awards are not intended to supplement or duplicate currently funded work. The project submitted can have no scientific or budgetary overlap with other funded work. An applicant may submit one National IRG application and one other National application per deadline.
Amount: $75,000/ year for 2 years
Deadline: July 24, 2014

All applications are due into the Office of Grants and Contracts five business days prior to the sponsor's deadline for DFCI review and approval prior to submission to the sponsor. 
 
Non-Federal Funding - Fellowships
American Diabetes Association (ADA)
Initiator Award
ADA's two-phase award is designed to support the transition from mentored training to independent research faculty. Eligible applicants must currently be in research training positions and have no more than seven years of research training following terminal doctoral degree. Applicants cannot concurrently hold an NIH K99/R00 grant. All other Career Development awards are allowable. Applicants must be willing to devote at least 75% effort towards research. One person must be specified as the PI; co-PIs are not permitted. Phase 1 will support up to 3 years for mentored research training to allow investigators to complete ongoing research, publish results, receive additional training and develop independent research plans. Phase 2 will support up to 5 years for independent research.
Amount: For phase 1 and 2 combined up to $1,625,000

Helen Hay Whitney Foundation
Research Fellowships
The Helen Hay Whitney Foundation supports early postdoctoral research training in all basic biomedical sciences.

Candidates who are beginning postdoctoral training in basic biomedical research are eligible to apply for a fellowship. The Foundation accepts applications from candidates who have no more than one year of postdoctoral research experience at the time of the deadline for submitting the application (July 1, 2014), and who have received a PhD (or D.Phil. or equivalent) degree no more than two years before the deadline, or an M.D. degree no more than three years before the deadline.

Amount: $154,500 for 3 years

American Heart Association (AHA)/ Myocarditis Foundation

Postdoctoral Fellowship Award  

AHA helps trainees initiate careers in cardiovascular and stroke research while obtaining significant research results under the supervision of a sponsor or mentor. At the time of award activation candidates must have no more than five years postdoctoral research training or experience. Time spent in clinical training is excluded. 

Amount: $40,200 - $55,100/ year for 2 years

Deadline: July 25, 2014  

 

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)/Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C)/Cancer Research UK

SU2C-Cancer Research UK Translational Research Fellowships 

AACR provides support to the most talented and promising early-career investigators in the United States and the United Kingdom who demonstrate clear potential to become leaders in their fields. Research projects must be translational in nature and address critical problems in cancers with the potential to deliver patient benefit. Proposals must include plans to promote new significant transatlantic collaborations and active exchange of knowledge and expertise between the United States and the United Kingdom. By the start of the grant term applicants must have had less than a total of two years of postdoctoral or clinical research experience. Applicants must identify one qualified U.S. host laboratory and mentor and one qualified U.K. host laboratory and mentor. The work must be performed in two phases, one in the United States and one in the United Kingdom.

Amount: $315,000 for 4 years 

Deadline: July 28, 2014
