University of Massachusetts Boston & Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (Umass Boston & DF/HCC) U54 Comprehensive Partnership to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities
The purpose of this joint grant between UMass Boston and DF/HCC is to foster and support intensive collaborations among investigators at UMass Boston and DF/HCC. If more than 50% of the proposed research will be performed at UMass Boston, the project can focus on any area of cancer research or cancer disparities research. If more than 50% of the proposed research will be performed at DF/HCC, the project must focus on cancer disparities research. All proposed research projects must illustrate collaboration between UMass Boston and DF/HCC scientists. Additionally, all research projects must have high potential for leading to external funding through the NIH K-series, R03, R21, R01 mechanisms. Amount: $240,000 over 2 years (for Pilot projects) or $750,000 over 3 years (for Full projects) Deadline: LOI; May 1, 2014 Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC) Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) in Brain Cancer Career Development AwardThe Neuro-Oncology Program at DF/HCC seeks applications for career development projects focused on adult or pediatric gliomas. Funding will be provided through the National Cancer Institute (NCI)-sponsored SPORE mechanism. Eligible candidates are those who are in the final year of clinical fellowship or postdoctoral fellowship or are within 5 years of their first faculty appointment who hold the current rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor. Amount: $50,000 over 2 years Deadline: May 1, 2014 Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC) Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) in Brain Cancer Developmental Research AwardThe Neuro-Oncology Program at DF/HCC seeks applications for developmental research projects focused on adult or pediatric gliomas. Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) Program Project Development Grant OCRF is requesting Letters of Intent for the 2015 Program Project Development Grant. The purpose of this grant making program is to provide funds for ovarian cancer research projects that may involve several investigators within one institution or collaborations between groups at multiple institutions. The Principal Investigator and other investigators must have full-time faculty appointments. Letters of Intent must be submitted via the proposalCENTRAL website. Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF)
Liz Tilberis Scholars Early Career Awards The Liz Tilberis Early Career Award is for junior faculty with a strong commitment to an investigative career in the field of ovarian cancer research. The intent of these awards is to support a substantial time commitment to research and academic endeavors in ovarian cancer. The application is for investigators in their first academic faculty appointment. Candidates should be in the first five years of their first academic appointment after having completed their fellowship or post-doctoral training (Assistant Professor or equivalent). Individuals who will begin such a position by July 2014 are eligible for this award. Letters of Intent must be submitted via the proposalCENTRAL website. Amount: $150,000/ year for 3 years Deadline: LOI; May 6, 2014 PhRMA Foundation Research Starter Grant The PhRMA Foundation encourages research aimed at quantifying the benefits to society that have accrued from innovations in cancer treatment. The grant will be awarded to candidates who establish a sound and innovative research project focused on developing a novel way of describing the social, patient-centered, and economic benefits of innovation in cancer treatment. Individuals holding a rank of instructor, assistant professor, or investigator at the doctoral level are eligible to apply for a research starter grant. Applicants must be sponsored by the department within which the proposed research is to be undertaken. Amount: $100,000 over 1 year Deadline: May 16, 2014
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) Reach Awards The purpose of the Reach Award is to advance ALSF's mission to find cures and better treatments for childhood cancers by providing support to move hypothesis-driven research into the clinic. The goal of this award is to support selected "late translational" studies needed to ultimately initiate a clinical trial. Preference will be given to those research projects which, if funded, will result in the initiation of a clinical trial within two to three years. Awards are not renewable. American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) AGA-Aptalis Research Award in Pancreatic Disease
The overall objective of this career development award is to encourage and support research into exocrine pancreatic disorders by helping to sustain the careers of young investigators with an interest in pancreatic disease. Candidates for this award must hold an MD, PhD or equivalent degree by June 1, 2014. AGA membership is required at the time of application submission. At the time of application submission, candidates may not hold or have held an NIH R01, R29, R21, K08, K23, Veterans Affairs Career Development Award or any award with similar objectives from non-federal sources. Candidates with an active K12 may apply. Candidates are required to have a sponsor and preceptor for the award; however, one individual may serve in the capacity of both positions. Amount: $50,000/ year for 2 years Deadline: June 6, 2014 Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF) 2014 Grant Application LCRF supports projects that work towards the prevention, treatment, and early detection of all cancers of the lung. LCRF encourages applications for projects investigating a wide variety of lung cancer research topics. Amount: $50,000 over 1 year Deadline: June 16, 2014
Children's Leukemia Research Association (CLRA) CLRA Research Grant Program CLRA funds research grants for applicants who are conducting the most promising research in leukemia, in the hopes of isolating the causes and finding a cure for this dread disease. Applicants involved in research towards finding the causes and cure for leukemia may apply.Amount: $30,000 for 1 year Deadline: June 30, 2014
North American NeuroEndocrine Tumor Society (NANETS)
NANETS Clinical Investigator Scholarship (NCIS)The purpose of the NANETS Clinical Investigator Scholarship is to encourage clinicians at the end of their fellowship or beginning of their faculty appointment to pursue a clinical career focused on neuroendocrine tumors. Candidates must be in the first 5 years of a faculty appointment (instructor or above). Candidates must be a NANETS member. Amount: $50,000 for 1 year Deadline: June 30, 2014

Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) Ann SchreiberMentored Investigator Award OCRF provides funding for trainees who are working under the supervision of a mentor who is a recognized leader in the field of ovarian cancer research or relevant area. Applicants must be either clinical fellows or post-doctoral fellows. At least 90% effort should be devoted to research during the tenure of the OCRF award. Letters of Intent must be submitted via the proposalCENTRAL website. Amount: $75,000/ year for 1 or 2 years Deadline: LOI; May 6, 2014 American Society of Hematology (ASH) Scholar AwardsASH Scholar Award is designed to support hematologists who have chosen a career in research by providing partial salary or other support during that critical period required for the completion of training and achievement of status as an independent investigator. Eligible applicants must be a citizen of the United States or Canada or hold a visa in the United States or Canada. Scholar Award applicants are required to be members of ASH. If your membership application is pending at the time of the Scholar Award application deadline, you will still be considered for a Scholar Award. PhD or MD/PhD applicants must have fewer than 5 years of research experience after completion of their PhD. MD applicants should have more than 3 but fewer than 5 years of research experience. Amount: $50,000/ year for 2 years Deadline: LOI; May 7, 2014 The American Foundation for AIDS Research (amFAR) The goal of amfAR's Mathilde Krim Fellowships in Basic Biomedical Research is to facilitate the exceptional postdoctoral researcher's transition to a productive and independent long-term career in HIV/AIDS research. Applicants must devote at least 85% effort to the project each year. Applicants must be positioned to secure an independent research position no later than March 2017. Investigators must hold a research or clinical doctorate degree completed between three and six years prior to April 17, 2014. In addition, applicants must be the main author on significant publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals, and have made oral and poster presentations at major scientific conferences and meetings. Amount: $150,000 over 2 years Deadline: LOI; May 15, 2014 Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) 'A' Awards The 'A' award is a three-year grant for the early career scientist who wants to establish their career in pediatric oncology research. Applicants must be no more than 6 years after finishing a 3-year fellowship at the time the award would start (i.e. fellowship ended in 2008 or later) and be no more than 12 years since receiving the most recent professional degree. A minimum of 75% of the applicant's time during 'A' award must be allocated as protected time for all research activities. Applicants holding a K99/R00 or R01 are not eligible. Applicants currently holding an ALSF 2013 Young Investigator Award or are Center of Excellence Scholars are not eligible. Applicants currently holding ALSF's Innovation, Reach, Phase I/II Infrastructure or Epidemiology grants are not eligible to apply for the 2014 'A' Award. Amount: $150,000/ year for 3 years Deadline: May 23, 2014 American Heart Association (AHA)/ Myocarditis Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship Award AHA helps trainees initiate careers in cardiovascular and stroke research while obtaining significant research results under the supervision of a sponsor or mentor. At the time of award activation candidates must have no more than five years postdoctoral research training or experience. Time spent in clinical training is excluded.
