DFCI Limited Applications

The next DFCI Limited Application deadline is Wednesday, April 3rd,  3:00 pm to apply for the V Foundation's Translational Grant.  The internal applicant must have an appointment of Instructor or above; and the project team must have a minimum of two scientists from DFCI and must possess basic and clinical research expertise.

A. David Mazzone Research Awards Program
This program will fund a series of collaborative and innovative cancer research, career development, community outreach, and training projects to address a range of needs in prostate cancer and Lupron-treatable diseases. Funding Agency: The funding agency for the Program is a grant from the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts of a pool of unclaimed funds from the 2004 class action suit settlement by TAP Pharmaceuticals. The class action suit was related to marketing and sales practices for the prostate cancer drug Lupron. The program is administered jointly through DF/HCC and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Dana-Farber Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC)
Clinical Research Career Development Program - K12

The DF/HCC Advisory Committee is currently seeking applicants for the K12 Paul Calabresi Award for Clinical Oncology (PCACO) entitled "Clinical Research Career Development Program." Funding for two new awardees will be available retroactive to April 1, 2013. The recipient must devote a minimum of 75% effort to the Clinical Research Career Development Program.

Amount: $100,000/year for up to 5 years

Non-Federal Funding - Grants

Association for International Cancer Research (AICR)
Research Grant
AICR's goal is to fund scientific research that may, in the future, help reduce the incidence of cancer or improve cancer survival. AICR awards project grants between 12 and 36 months to support basic and translational research into the causes, mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer. AICR will consider applications in which studies on patients, volunteers, clinical records or human tissue are used to address a basic scientific question.
Amount: £200,000 (~$300,000) over 3 years

Melanoma Research Foundation
Established Investigator Award
Provides support for promising medical research that will further the goal of developing an effective treatment and possible cure of malignant melanoma, while encouraging scientists and clinicians to join in this mission. The award is given to established melanoma researchers, or senior researchers working in closely related fields who wish to move into melanoma research. Emphasis will be placed on projects that explore innovative approaches to understanding melanoma and its treatment. Both basic and clinical research projects will be considered. Each principal investigator or head of laboratory is limited to one application per year.
Amount: $100,000/year for 2 years

Career Development Award
Provides emerging scientific investigators with highly sought-after research grants that allow them to explore new avenues in melanoma biology and treatments, ultimately leading to a cure. This program emphasizes both basic and clinical research projects that explore innovative approaches to understanding melanoma and its treatment.
Amount: $50,000/year for 2 years

Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF)
2013 Challenge Award For Metastatic Prostate Cancer
PCF is interested in supporting large-scale research projects concerning metastatic prostate cancer. Projects must focus on Treatment Sciences: Investigations of new ideas in man or laboratory support of a high-impact clinical investigation with a high probability of near-term patient benefit. Teams should be composed of at least 3 highly experienced investigators as well as a young investigator. Teams may be assembled from one institution, or several institutions, from across the globe.
Amount: $1 million over 2 years

Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF)
LCRF Grant Program
LCRF welcomes submissions of grant requests for funding covering all aspects of lung cancer. Grants are awarded for lung cancer projects focused on: basic science; translational research; clinical research; supportive care; quality of care/outcomes.

Amount: $50,000 for 1 year 

Deadline: May 31, 2013  

The Doctors Cancer Foundation
Research Grant
Provides funds to promote young scientists currently under the radar screen. Grants will be awarded for the best program in the management of cancer. The sponsor is particularly interested in cancer stem cells, microRNAi agents, epigenetic agents, as well as many others topics. The sponsor is not looking at drug studies. The project should be innovative, sound and be able to lead to clinical trials.

Amount: $50,000 for 1 year

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)
The Quest For Cures
This program aims to identify and develop safer, more effective treatment paradigms for patients with hematological malignancies. LLS has formed a partnership with Celgene to build the foundation of this new LLS initiative. This initiative will identify and fund priority research areas, with support from biotech and pharmaceutical partners in order to address significant unmet medical needs. The near-term goal of this program is to advance the scientific and medical understanding of the various hematological malignances.

Amount: $200,000 - $400,000/year for 2 years

Innovation Award

Provides support for the next generation of exceptionally creative thinkers with "high-risk/high-reward" ideas that have the potential to significantly impact our understanding of and/or approaches to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of cancer. The Innovation Award is specifically designed to provide funding to extraordinary early career researchers who have an innovative new idea but lack sufficient preliminary data to obtain traditional funding. It is not designed to fund incremental advances. The research supported by the award must be novel, exceptionally creative and, if successful, have the strong potential for high impact in the cancer field.

Amount: $150,000/year for 3 years

Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)
Research Career Development Award
Provides support for short-term oncology research training and mentorship. The applicant must be a registered nurse with an interest in oncology and with a completed PhD degree in nursing or a related discipline. The conduct of a research project (including pilot and feasibility studies) is not permitted for this funding mechanism.

Amount: $20,000 for 1 year

Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)
Research Grant Awards
These grants support oncology nursing research. Research projects may include pilot or feasibility studies or the development of a new aspect of a program of research. The principal investigator must be actively involved in some aspect of cancer patient care, education, or research, and be PhD- or DNSc-prepared or a student working toward one of those research degrees. Funding preference is given to projects that involve nurses in the design and conduct of the research activity and that promote theoretically based oncology practice. Membership in ONS is not required for eligibility.
Amount: $25,000 over 2 years

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)

Career Development Program (CDP) 

The Career Development Program (CDP) offers the opportunity to take part in basic, clinical or translational research to help treat leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. LLS will award stipends so the applicant can devote time to leukemia research, lymphoma research or myeloma research. LLS offers career development awards for various stages of an applicant's research career. Please verify in the guidelines and instructions which award is appropriate for the applicant's level of experience and apply to that category of award:

Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation
Research Fellow Awards
Provides funding to researchers at the post doctorate/medical fellow or junior faculty levels and working under the supervision or guidance of a research sponsor in the multiple myeloma field. 

Amount: $75,000 for 1 year

Deadline: May 14, 2013

 

Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation

Fellowship Award
Candidates must apply for the fellowship under the guidance of a Sponsor-a scientist (tenured, tenure-track or equivalent position) capable of providing mentorship to the Fellow.  In addition to aiding in the planning, execution and supervision of the proposed research, the Sponsor's role is to foster the development of the Fellow's overall knowledge, technical and analytical skills, and capacity for scientific inquiry.  The Sponsor is also expected to assist the Fellow in attaining his/her career goals.

Amount: $156,000 - $186,000 over 3 years
