DFCI Limited Applications

LUNGevity, just announced a new limited application for DFCI, their Career Development Award for Translational Research.  Due to the short notice and quick turn around time; we are asking candidates to submit a single PDF file with a completed DFCI Limited Application Coversheet no later than:  Wednesday, November 28th, 5pm.   Eligibility requirements include being a faculty member within the 1st five years of faculty appointment and a research leader keeping the field of lung cancer research vibrant with new ideas.

 

Additional Limited Applications will be announced next week for several foundations that have a sponsor deadline in February 2013.

Friends For An Earlier Breast Cancer Test
Medical Research Grant
Requesting applications for pilot projects that focus on new methods to improve detection of early breast cancer and are especially interested in the development of new techniques in the areas of biological or immunologic methods of early detection. It is hoped that pilot projects will provide preliminary data that leads to applications for more substantial peer-reviewed funding.
Amount: $40,000/year for up to 3 years

Innovation awards are designed as seed funding for mid-career researchers with a novel approach to pediatric cancer scientific investigation. This may often represent a change in research direction and/or an innovative new idea that moves away from an investigator's prior research.
Amount: $125,000/year for up to 2 years

Young Investigator Awards
These awards are designed as start-up funds for new scientists at the end of their fellowship training or early in their research career. Demonstration of outstanding mentorship and demonstration of a career plan that shows commitment to pediatric cancer investigation are critical components of a successful application.

Epidemiology Awards

These awards are designed to support the research of investigators who have a specific focus on the epidemiology, early detection, or the prevention of childhood cancer. Eligible areas of investigation include the following: Epidemiology and etiology of childhood cancer; Early Detection of Childhood Cancer; Prevention of Childhood Cancer; and some Preclinical research.  

Amount: $100,000/year for up to 2 years

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
The New Idea Award
The goal of this RFA is to evaluate novel concepts that could lead to significant improvements in the clinical outcomes, including quality of life, of patients with hematological malignancies. Grants will support initial exploration of untested but potentially transformative research ideas and treatment approaches. In order to receive such an award, applicants must succinctly describe the innovative idea/approach and a method for testing it.
Amount: $100,000 for 1 year

American Gastroenterological Association
Caroline Craig Augustyn and Damian Augustyn Award in Digestive Cancer
This grant provides a one-time award to a young investigator who currently holds a federal or non-federal career development award devoted to conducting research related to digestive cancer.
Amount: $40,000 for 1 year

International Association of the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC)  

IASLC Young Investigators Award 

The goal is to reward scientific excellence and to encourage innovative research in lung cancer prevention and translational medicine. Applications will be evaluated by a Scientific Review Panel for their merit, innovation and potential impact on the management of lung cancer.  

Amount: $40,000/year for 2 years

American Heart Association 

Scientist Development Award
Supports highly promising beginning scientists in their progress toward independence by encouraging and adequately funding research projects that can bridge the gap between completion of research training and readiness for successful competition as an independent investigator. Research broadly related to cardiovascular function and disease and stroke, or to related clinical, basic science, bioengineering or biotechnology, and public health problems, including multidisciplinary efforts.
Amount: $66,000/year for up to 3 years

American Heart Association
Grant-in-Aid
To encourage and adequately fund the most innovative and meritorious research projects from independent investigators. Research broadly related to cardiovascular function and disease and stroke, or to related clinical, basic science, bioengineering or biotechnology, and public health problems, including multidisciplinary efforts. Proposals are encouraged from all basic disciplines as well as epidemiological, behavioral, community and clinical investigations that bear on cardiovascular and stroke problems.
Amount: $77,000/year for up to 3 years

American Thyroid Association (ATA)
Research Grants
The ATA is pleased to announce the availability of funds to support new investigator initiated research projects in the area of thyroid function and disease. Topics may include, but are not limited to, Thyroid Autoimmunity, Iodine Uptake and Metabolism, Thyroid Cancer, Medullary Thyroid Cancer, Clinical Disorders of Thyroid Function, Thyroid Hormone Action and Metabolism, Thyroid Imaging, Thyroid Nodules and Goiter, Thyroid and Pregnancy, Thyroid Development and the Brain.
Amount: $25,000/year for up to 2 years

Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA)
SFA Research Grants

Provides grants to investigators interested in translational science Sarcoma research.  Funding is available to cover equipment and supplies in support of research on the etiology, molecular biology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of human Sarcomas. In accordance with the mission of the Foundation, research involving the development of novel agents against Sarcoma, or research that could potentially lead to the development of novel agents against Sarcoma, is eligible for this funding.  The SFA strongly prefers - and will give special consideration to - applications that focus on the following areas of research: omic characterization of sarcomas and definition of novel targets, omic patterns of sensitivity and resistance to existing agents, systemic therapy combinations, immunotherapy.

Amount: Up to $50,000 for 1 year

American Asthma Foundation (AAF)

AAF Scholars Program  

This program, for early- to mid-career scientists from all fields, supports outstanding investigators from other fields into the study of asthma; most investigators in this program are studying asthma for the first time.  

Amount: $150,000/year for up to 3 years 

Deadline: February 6, 2013 

 

All applications are due into the Office of Grants and Contracts five business days prior to the sponsor's deadline for DFCI review and approval prior to submission to the sponsor.

The Medical Foundation 

The Charles A. King Trust Postdoctoral Research Fellowship  

This program is designed to support postdoctoral scientists in non-profit academic, medical or research institutions. Each applicant must be working under the supervision of an established scientist who is the designated Mentor.  

Amount: Up to $51,000/year, for 2 years  

Deadline: December 14, 2012  

 

American Society of Hematology  (ASH)

Research Training Award for Fellows (RTAF)

The ASH RTAF is designed to encourage junior researchers in hematology, hematology/oncology, or other hematology-related training programs to pursue a career in academic hematology. Both junior and senior investigators are eligible to apply, see the ASH website for more details. 

Amount: $50,000 for 1 year

L'Oréal USA  

Fellowships for Women in Science  

The L'Oréal USA Fellowships for Women in Science program is a national awards program that annually recognizes and rewards five U.S.-based women researchers at the beginning of their scientific careers. Applicants must be American citizens (born or naturalized) or permanent residents at the time of application submission.
Amount: Up to $60,000 for 1 year
Deadline: December 20, 2012

This award seeks to promote the aims of the Prevent Cancer Foundation (PCF) whose mission is the prevention of cancer through scientific research and education. Lung cancer prevention is defined as the reduction of lung cancer incidence through research, education and early detection. The PCF and the IASLC jointly sponsor prevention and translational fellowship awards in lung cancer research. 

Amount: $40,000/year for 2 years

To help trainees initiate careers in cardiovascular and stroke research while obtaining significant research results under the supervision of a sponsor or mentor; supports individuals before they're ready for some stage of independent research. Proposals are encouraged from all basic disciplines as well as epidemiological, behavioral, community and clinical investigations that bear on cardiovascular and stroke problems.
