ATHLETIC CLUB AT THE WESTIN MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE SERIES CONTINUES WEDNESDAY WITH CAMP HALE HUP RACE
(Vail, Colo.) - The Vail Recreation District's Athletic Club at the Westin Mountain Bike Race Series will continue the summer season of racing on Wednesday, July 20 with the Camp Hale Hup race. The Camp Hale Hup race is the fifth race of the seven-race series, which is presented by Athletic Club at the Westin, East West Destination Hospitality, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and The Dusty Boot. 

Individual race costs are $26 for preregistration or $37 on race day. Registration is available online and preregistration for individual races ends at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Day-of registration will end at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. All racers are welcome and racers do not need to be registered in the full series to participate in individual races.

The races will take place at the historic Camp Hale off of Highway 24 and the race start/finish will be at the intersection of East Fork and Resolution Creek Rd., 0.5 miles east of the Nova Guides lodge. The Larkburger Youth Series will kick off at 4:45 p.m. with races for riders ages 8 to 17. All youth racers will complete between a two- to six-mile short course. The Athletic Club at the Westin adult series will kick off at 5:45 p.m. with details as follows:

  • Men's Pro/Open and Men's Expert Under 35 will begin at 5:45 p.m. Men's Expert 35-44 and Men's Single Speed will follow at 5:46 p.m and Women's Pro/Open and Men's Expert 45+ begins at 5:47 p.m. with two long laps and a 22-mile distance.
  • Women's Expert Under 35, 35-44, 45+ and Women's Single Speed will begin at 5:48 p.m., Men's Sport 18 and Under and 19-34 will begin at 5:49 p.m., followed by Men's Sport 35-44 at 5:50 p.m., Men's Sport 45-49 at 5:51 p.m., Men's Open 50+ and Clydesdales at 5:52 p.m., Women's Sport 18 & Under and Women's Sport 19-34 at 5:53 p.m. and Women's Sport 35-44 and 45+ at 5:54 p.m. Men's Beginner will then take place at 5:55 p.m. and Women's Beginner at 5:56 p.m. These categories will race one long lap for an 11-mile distance.
The race will include an after-party at the Minturn Saloon with a free keg of beer provided by New Belgium Brewery for those 21 and over. Prizes will also be presented after the race to the top three finishers of each category, as well as a raffle prize drawing featuring products from race sponsors, area merchants and national companies. Pedal Power, the official bike shop of Camp Hale Hup, will be on-site to provide neutral support for racers with last-minute mechanical issues.

The ever-expanding series will return to Eagle for the Boneyard Brawl on August 3, followed by the final race of the series in Beaver Creek for the Beaver Creek Blast on August 24.
