VAIL TENNIS CENTER OPENS FOR THE SEASON FRIDAY, MAY 27 
(Vail)-The Vail Tennis Center will open for the summer season on Friday with eight clay courts ready for play at Ford Park. Located adjacent to the Ford Park athletic field, the Tennis Center will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Sept. 30. Adult programs will begin on June 6 featuring a variety of opportunities for doubles and singles play throughout the summer. Season passes are on sale and costs are $135 for Vail Recreation District residents, $160 for non-VRD residents and $75 for youth, ages 17 and younger.

New this spring, old clay was removed and two tons of new clay was installed on the center's eight Har-Tru clay courts. The center's courts continue to receive accolades and are considered to be some of the best clay courts in the state.

The Vail Recreation District has debuted a brand-new, easy-to-use online registration system. Users can now create one login for the entire family and view camps, facility schedules, programs and more! Junior tennis camps and group lessons, plus season passes are now available for purchase online at www.vailrec.com/register.

Adult Programming
Adult programming is as follows, and pricing is $10 per weekly program or $1 for pass holders. Look for new activities being announced throughout the summer.
  • Doubles 4.0 or Better*, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays
  • Senior Men's Doubles*, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays for all skill levels
  • Ladies' Day (Drop in), 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesdays for all skill levels
  • Men's Night (Drop in), 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays for all skill levels
  • NEW! Ladies' Doubles 4.0 or Better*, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursdays
  • Men's Doubles*, 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Fridays for all skill levels
  • Men's Doubles 4.0 or Better*, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays   
  • Sunday Doubles*, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sundays for all skill levels
  • Mixed Doubles*, 2 to 4 p.m. on Sundays for all skill levels

Youth Programming
Additionally, junior tennis camps and lessons will take place throughout the summer as follows:
  • Junior group lessons will take place Monday through Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. for ages five to ten and from 11 a.m. to noon for ages 11 to 17. Lessons will take place June 8 through Aug. 17 and cost is $70 per week. Register online at www.vailrec.com/register.
  • Junior tennis camps will take place from 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 20-24, June 27 to July 1, July 4-8, July 11-15, July 18-22, July 25-29, Aug. 1-4, Aug. 8-12 and Aug. 15-19. Cost is $220 and registration for tennis camps and lessons is underway online.
Pickleball
Returning this summer, the Tennis Center will offer drop-in pickleball at Donovan Park and Red Sandstone School beginning in June. This racket sport is played by two or four people on a badminton-sized court using wood or composite paddle rackets and a plastic, poly baseball with holes. Users must supply their own equipment. Drop-in games will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesdays at Donovan Park and 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays and 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sundays (experienced players only) at Red Sandstone School. For drop-in use of the pickleball courts throughout the summer, a fee of $5 is required per session or a season pass for $80 is available online
 
Instruction
The Vail Tennis Center will also offer private instruction for ages five and older, including private sessions, semi-private sessions and clinics. Costs are as follows:
  • Private (one person): $70 per hour or $50 per half hour
  • Semi-Private (two people): $90 per hour or $65 per half hour
  • Semi-Private (three people): $100 per hour or $75 per half hour
  • Clinics: Minimum of 3 Required: $20 per hour per person
