NOMINATING PETITIONS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR TWO VAIL RECREATION BOARD OF DIRECTOR SEATS FOR MAY 3 ELECTION
(Vail, Colo.) - Nominating petitions are currently available for candidates interested in running for two open seats on the five-member Vail Recreation District (VRD) Board of Directors. The regular special district election for the VRD will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Self-Nomination and Acceptance forms are available by going to www.vailrec.com/elections or may be picked up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from April Heredia, the Designated Election Official (DEO), in the VRD administration office, located at 700 S. Frontage Rd. E. in the Town of Vail (adjacent to the Ford Park softball fields).

Candidates interested in running for the four-year term will have until 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2016 to return the Self-Nomination and Acceptance form to the DEO to be included on the ballot and no later than February 29, 2016 to be a write-in candidate. The Self-Nomination and Acceptance form must be witnessed by a Registered Voter in the State of Colorado.
 
The Board seats up for election are held by incumbents Bill Suarez and term-limited Director Jeff Wiles. The terms of the remaining Board members - Kevin Foley, Tom Saalfeld and Kim Newbury - will be up for election in May of 2018. To qualify for the upcoming VRD Board of Director election, candidates must:
  • be an eligible voter in Colorado and meet one of the following requirements:
    • be a resident of the VRD, or 
    • be a property owner in the VRD, or 
    • spouse of a property owner in the VRD.
Voters will cast ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2016 in the Grand View Room on the third floor of the Lionshead Welcome Center, 395 E. Lionshead Circle. This election will be held in conjunction with the Eagle River Water and Sanitation District election.

Absentee voting requests are also being accepted. An application for absentee ballot can be downloaded at www.vailrec.com/elections or may be requested at the VRD administration office, 700 S. Frontage Rd. E. in Vail. The final day to file an absentee ballot application is April 29, 2016.
