VAIL REC DISTRICT'S 5TH ANNUAL KRUEGER FAMILY SHAMROCK SHUFFLE RACE  FEATURES NEW COURSE FOR 2016 
(Vail, Colo.)-The Vail Recreation District will host its fifth annual Krueger Family Shamrock Shuffle 10k, 5k and kids 1k fun run, in celebration of all things green on St. Patrick's Day weekend. The race will feature a new and exciting course this year, beginning at the Vail Athletic Fields and ending at the Vail Nature Center including snowshoe and Yaktrax categories. The race will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 12 and will be followed by a post-race gathering that will include hot chocolate and s'mores around a bonfire at the Vail Nature Center.
 
Costs for the race are $18 to preregister or $28 day-of; $15 for students who are preregisterd or $25 on race day; and free for the kids 1k fun run. Racers can register or pick up their bib from 4 to 6 p.m.  Friday, March 11 at the Icebreaker store, located in Solaris Plaza in Vail Village. The first 125 registrants will be given a free gift with submitted registration. Snowshoe rentals will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Vail Athletic Fields. Prizes will be given out to the top three women and men in the 10k snowshoe and Yaktrax categories and include gift certificates to the Vail Chophouse, Blue Moose Pizza and more. Costumes are encouraged and prizes will be awarded to the best St. Patrick's Day-themed outfits. A raffle drawing will also take place for all participants at the after party with an opportunity to win snowshoes from Tubbs, Yaktrax and prizes from Wigwam, Outdoor Technology and more.  
 
VRD Sports Coordinator Kip Tingle says the race is a great opportunity to start getting prepped for the VRD's summer La Sportiva Vail Mountain Trail Running Race Series. "We have a lot of folks out there who run in our summer trail series and are looking for winter events," said Tingle. "The Krueger Family Shamrock Shuffle is a great way to get pumped for the trail running series and 'shuffle' around our new and exciting course. Whether you're Irish or not, it will be a great afternoon event."
