Vail Golf Club Renovation Update

Final Fall Weekly Construction Meeting Tomorrow, Oct. 14
The Town of Vail will host its final fall meeting tomorrow to review the schedule for renovation of the Vail Golf and Nordic Clubhouse. The meeting, facilitated by Leonard Sandoval, will be held at 1 p.m. in the Town of Vail Public Works Administration Building, 1309 Elkhorn Drive. The clubhouse meetings have been held for the past six weeks to discuss staging, traffic coordination and other neighborhood topics associated with the project. A Vail Recreation District representative will be present at the meetings to answer any operational questions regarding Golf and Nordic. If you're unable to attend, please contact Leonard with your questions by calling 970-390-4677 (cell); 970-479-2198; or email lsandoval@vailgov.com. Meetings will resume in the spring or be held on an as needed basis through the winter.

Clubhouse Renovation Update
  • Golf/Nordic temporary structures have been installed and work is ongoing to connect the utilities and install the access ramps.
  • Excavation for the new sewer service line as well as the new storm sewer pipe is taking place and work on the existing parking lot is now scheduled for Oct. 23. The parking lot work requires a reduction in parking from the current 75 spaces down to 35 spaces. Should there be a need, a valet parking program will be used- at no cost to golfers- for during the paving project. The contractor will start on the southwest side and will then move to the southeast side. Completion of this work is scheduled for Nov. 1.
  • The overall project includes significant improvements to the clubhouse, new utilities, drainage, parking lot improvements and the installation of temporary structures to allow for golf and Nordic operations during construction.
  • Golf operations will continue to allow for 18-hole play via walking, push carts and golf bikes through closing day on Oct. 25. Also, 40 gas-powered carts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Snacks and beverages are available via the starter building.
  • Golf maintenance crews have begun winterizing the irrigation system. Due to a lack of moisture over the past 30 plus days, crews may require carts on paths only as they prep the course for the fall.
  • Nordic operations will begin on Nov. 1 with season pass and retail sales in temporary facilities.

As part of the renovation, all existing uses of the building, such as the pro shop, Nordic center, restaurant and cart storage will receive significant improvements. The project also includes a modest expansion to accommodate community uses. Construction will take from 10 to 12 months with the renovation completed by fall 2016. The schedule has been carefully coordinated to maintain continuity of golf and Nordic operations.
