From our Pastors...
Bullseye

"Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong."  2 Corinthians 12:8-10

The hunter's heart was racing. The blood pounding in his ears almost drowned out all other noises, except one...the beautiful full-throated bugle from the bull elk heading his way. He gave one more cow call and readied his bow.

The early morning mist gave way to the massive bull elk as he slowed his charge and sniffed the air. The hunter could make out the large-branched antlers on top of the massive head. It was the biggest bull this veteran hunter had ever seen!

The large bull slowly walked toward the waiting hunter, his massive-branched antlers tickling the underside of the large pine branches. The moment the bull turned broadside, the hunter loosed his arrow. It flew straight and true...

The hunter's excited focus on the massive antlers caused him to miss the target that would have brought the elk down. Instead, the bull elk snorted and ran away with the hunter's arrow trapped in its massive antlers.

Focus. Focus is everything when it comes to life. In this Scripture Paul readily admits he has an issue of some sort. Believe me, a lot of discussion and ink have been written to try and figure out what this issue is, but Paul doesn't even give it a fourth glance; that is not his focus. His focus is on grace, unmerited favor that Jesus has given him. Even in Paul's weakened state, he can still be living for Christ.

As a challenge, I started to write down all the areas I am weak or have heard people insult or criticize me for, the hardships I have been through, and parts of life I have had an issue with. I hate to admit, the list is longer than I thought or expected. I put the list on my wall in my office. If I look up from my computer, I see it...all those weaknesses, hurts, insults, criticisms, hardships, and life in general.

I left it up on my wall for a week as a reminder. At the end of the week, I simply wrote GRACE in large letters filling up the entire page. I pinned it back on my wall.

What do we see as we look at life? I'm positive all of us have our list, but that list is our weakness. Why should we focus on it? We have been given a gift that can completely change our focus on life. Our attention can be taken off this world and fixated on the bullseye of God's grace. Take heart, "For when I am weak, then I am strong." The shot is yours...what are you aiming at?
