From our Pastors...

The King's Obstacle

And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:3-5

A story is told about a King who had a boulder placed on a roadway and then hid himself to see if anyone would be a good citizen and remove the huge rock. Some of the King's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Others came by and loudly complained that the King should be keeping the roads clear, but not a soul even touched the boulder.

Finally, a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. As he approached the boulder, the peasant laid down his load and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. With a lot of pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained several gold coins and a note from the King stating that this reward was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway.

The peasant learned a lesson we all need to understand: with life's obstacles is an opportunity to improve our condition. It is for this reason that James teaches us to "consider it all joy" when we encounter various trials. The trial is never fun, the effort in overcoming is often hard and grueling, but the endurance and growth of character is a reward that outlasts even this life.

Be encouraged today!

Host Families Needed

Foreign exchange students coming to the U.S. for the 2015-16 school year need host families. Will you host a student? One is Changtian, who is a 15 year old boy from China. He enjoys debate, chess, science, swimming, and piano. Exchange students speak English, have medical insurance, and pay their personal expenses. Host families provide room and board and loving parental guidance. Students become a part of the family while attending the local high school.

Host families are needed in the Crater, Phoenix, North Medford, South Medford, Grants Pass High, Rogue River Jr./Sr. High School, North Valley, Hidden Valley, and Eagle Point High School districts. Please contact me if interested or in need of more information. The sooner you choose a student, the sooner you can start to get to know them. An exchange student will thank you for opening their home to them.

In Closing...

null The Lord is the portion
of my inheritance and my cup;
You support my lot.
The lines have fallen to me
in pleasant places;
Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.
