CommunityFeature

Community is really what PYC is all about and we would like to share with you each month a story from one of YOU! Watching you grow and transform and take your like on so courageously is so inspiring, and we would like to acknowledge you.

- Kinndli and Pauline

Yoga found me at a time when I was feeling profoundly lost. I felt like a spectator in my life - powerless to take action and constantly doubting myself. I began practicing yoga to get out of my head by exercising and to feel better about myself by being more fit.

I was expecting PYC to be primarily a physical experience for me, but to my surprise and delight the practice activated my mind just as much as my body! A few kernels of wisdom really landed for me in the first few weeks of practicing. I began to wake up to the possibility and abundance I create every day through my attitude. I felt like I was on a great path, a path I knew existed but never knew how to find, and I wanted more!

I enrolled in 40 Days to Personal Revolution in September 2012. I went into it with a mindset of giving myself wholly to the process, and it was an amazing experience. I thought the main challenge would be doing forty days of yoga, and instead I found that it would challenge me to live a better life. Sam and Andrea encouraged me to look at myself with honesty and act in my life with authenticity and generosity. I learned tools to understand and manage my stress, to see myself from a positive perspective, and to not take myself so seriously! By the end of the 40 Days, I was in a happy place in my mind and my practice was on fire!

I wanted more. I enrolled in the Assisting Intensive with Denise and Renee in November 2012, looking for a way to deepen my knowledge of Baptise yoga. I wanted to become a leader in the community forming at PYC St. Catharines. Over two weekends, I was inspired by Denise and Renee and the way they modeled the PYC core values: being for others, speaking straight, and being in action. I loved the hands-on teaching, and I was motivated by my classmates to bring my best each day and create something amazing for myself.

Assisting at PYC St. Catharines has been a fantastic experience. I have learned so much about myself by challenging myself to live up to the principles of assisting and bring an empowering service to my community. I love the physical connection to body, breath, and mind, and I am inspired by the positive energy I feel all the time in St. Catharines.

I loved the change I was seeing in the relationships in my life and in the enthusiasm I was feeling about the possibilities I created through positivity. I loved the connections I was making through assisting and participating in Energy Exchange in St. Catharines. I connected some dots in my head, and decided to follow my heart!

I enrolled in Teacher Training in January 2013, and I'm certain it's the greatest gift I have ever given myself.

Don Miguel Ruiz says: "Just because you hear a voice in your head doesn't mean that it's speaking the truth." This was a revelation for me, as I started to see the lies that I was telling myself to avoid stepping into action in my life and enjoying the happiness I deserve. Yoga has taught me tools to quiet the voice in my head, and I'm constantly inspired by teachers and yogis at Power Yoga Canada who act with courage and passion!

I look forward to being a powerful teacher and helping people discover what's possible in their lives!

- John Greenhow
