Chinese New Year comes February 10. The largest annual human migration has begun, but the state-owned railways have not kept up with demand in recent years.
Sometime in February the Chinese Yuan will be able to be cleared in Taiwan. Previously US dollars acted as an intermediary. The move is part of China's desire to internationalize its currency.

The number of mass protests in China has risen dramatically since 2000. Last week 30 protests, some as large as 1000 people, over sixteen provinces, occurred on one day.
