Letters from Forced Labor Camps

A letter apparently written by a victim of forced labor, recently found in Halloween decorations sold at K-Mart, elicited many questions about China's forced labor system. However, letters of this sort have been surfacing for at least a decade.

State-Run Global Times Pushes Weight

The State-run newspaper Global Times wrote an editorial criticizing another paper's staff for not following censorship orders. Global Times then forced a third paper to also carry the editorial, prompting the publisher to resign in disgust.

Winter Swimming in Siberia

   Some Northern Chinese say winter swimming helps prevent colds. Others say it just feels good. Fortunately, the Harbin Ice Festival is enjoying one of its coldest winters on record.

Report: Chinese Censorship Top Risk for 2013

   The Eurasia Group published a report for 2013's top risks and gave the number two spot to Chinese government censorship. The Group's president believes that nationalism will continue to increase as a rallying call against corruption and conflicts in the South China Seas.
