Dr. Choi Published Journal Papers with His Students Using the Latest Industry Database Services

The students of Dr. Young Choi published six research papers to the professional journals recently as the following.  He guided his students how to do research efficiently including the ways of finding the latest IT and telecommunications industry technology related resources and using them for their research.  The students taking the 300 or 400 level Information Systems Technology courses from him fulfilled one of the course requirements by writing their course papers and additionally submitted their papers to the journals with his extended academic advice for them.

The students' research papers were submitted to the journals of KSEA Letters and the International Journal of Computer and Information Technology (IJCIT) and published in February, May, and September 2014 respectively.  KSEA Letters is an official journal of Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA) established in 1971 as a non-profit organization with over 6,000 registered numbers with 70 local chapters and 13 technical groups across the United States [KSEA Homepage].  The International Journal of Computer and Information Technology (IJCIT) is an international scholarly open access, peer reviewed bi-monthly journal. The journal aims at providing a platform and encourages emerging scholars and academicians globally to share their professional and academic knowledge in the fields of Computer Science, engineering, technology and related disciplines. IJCIT also aims to reach a large number of audiences worldwide with original and current research work completed on the vital issues of the above important disciplines [IJCIT Homepage].

Especially, the students could use the latest IT and telecommunication technologies in writing their research papers by directly accessing the global industry standard and case documents library of TM Forum.  They really enjoyed accessing the latest industry documents very quickly conveniently.  TM Forum is a global trade association trusted by the world's largest enterprises, service providers and suppliers to help them continuously transform to succeed in the digital economy.  They bring together more than 85,000 professionals from 900+ member companies to share experiences, collaborate and rapidly solve critical business challenges including IT transformation, business process optimization, big data analytics, cloud management, customer experience management and cyber security [TM Forum Homepage].

Dr. Choi was involved in TM Forum since 1995 and is a founding member of TM Forum University Liaison Program.  The TM Forum University Program is encouraging interdisciplinary education and research as well as facilitating discussion and collaboration amongst a unique group of select universities in the world and TM Forum member companies.  He received the Outstanding Contribution Award of the TM Forum in 1998 in recognition of his outstanding contribution, for dedication of time and energy, and for helping the team succeed.

He was the TM Forum World Ordering Team Technical Member during 1995-2000 and has been serving as the University Liaison Program Representative since 2010 for the Regent University students, staff, and faculty.  He contributed to establish the first universal telecommunications World Ordering Model by doing a research through his Interdisciplinary Ph.D. dissertation "Service Order Handling" at the University of Missouri-Kansas City with his academic advisor Dr. Adrian Tang in 1995.

He is currently helping the students further to be exposed to the state of the art of IT and telecommunications industry technologies by working with Academy of Science and Engineering (ASE) and ITU-T Technology Watch Program.  ASE is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science and engineering innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.  ITU-T Technology Watch Program surveys emerging information and communication technologies and how they can be included within the ITU-T work program.  ITU-T is the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)'s Telecommunications Standardization Sector developing international standards known as ITU-T Recommendations which act as defining elements in the global infrastructure of information and communication technologies (ICTs).

Up to now, the students' responses to their research work using the global trade documents of IT and telecommunications industry through TM Forum University Program, ASE, and ITU-T Technology Watch Program are very positive.  More innovative ways of efficiently integrating learning and research skills to enhance education quality of Information Systems Technology will be explored and implemented in the future.
