Celebrating 30 Years with 30 Top Travel Tips
|
|
KE Leaders & Staff share their top tips, some obvious, some quirky!
Over the last 3 decades we have accumulated a wealth of knowledge and expertise to help make your adventure holiday experience that little bit easier. In celebration of our 30 years of travel we would like to share our Top Tips with you...
A small roll of Gaffa (Duck) tape - never travel without it! It can help you fix many things in an emergency, from a hole in your tent, broken rucksack strap, snapped sunglasses, to keeping soles on boot.
On summit day our guides always see several expensive insulated gloves or mitts sliding down the snow, dropped by members of a team above. Reduce the chances by using a string wrist loop.

The Hollywood of the North

Why Filmakers go to Iceland!
Anyone who has ever travelled to Iceland will be aware of its dramatic panoramas, remoteness and otherworldly qualities. Now it seems so do Hollywood! With its epic vistas and enticing tax breaks, producers are heading north with recent movies including The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Prometheus, Oblivion, Thor: The Dark World and for the small screen the popular series Game of Thrones. This week will also see the release of the biblical drama Noah and sci-fi adventure Interstellar. Whilst we all enjoy discovering a new destination via the comfort of an armchair, there is no better way than to experience it first-hand! Hike into Iceland's volcanic heart on our Land of Extremes Trek or climb the unpronounceable Hvannadalshnukur on the brilliant Three Peaks Challenge.

Juniper Trust - Peru Update
|
Solar Lighting for 300 more homes
KE's Peru Cordillera Huayhuash guru and trek leader, Val Pitkethly, has been the driving force that has seen individual solar lights installed in over 4000 households. Val is returning to Peru in June 2014 and plans to install Solar Lighting in a further 300 family homes in the Cordillera Blanca Region. Currently the villages of Quisar, Tayapucra, Pachapaki, Quebrada Shallpa and Quitchar are without any lighting whatsoever. The portable lights will mean they can light their homes, enabling their children to do their school studies in the evening and help anyone who is ill during the night. The "Nisamax" lights are manufactured by Ordino in Canada, delivered to Peru FOC and installed by volunteers. The Juniper Trust is aiming to raise £3000 by May 2014 to pay for the lights in time for Val's visit. >> View Solar Panel Project

Travelling Celebs
|
Love or Loathe them?
It seems recently, that more and more TV 'Celebrities' are travelling to exotic destinations and presenting their adventures on prime time TV. The Top Gear team toured Burma, the Hairy Bikers sampled the culinary delights of Japan and David Beckham spent two weeks in the Amazon Jungle of Brazil. A BBC documentary on Beckham's journey is due to air in June, but you can follow in his footsteps NOW on our unique Brazil's Highest Waterfall holiday. If you're a tweeter, we would love to hear what you have to say about this modern-day phenomenon. Does this kind of travel reportage exploit the places that these celebrities choose to visit or does it bring remote corners of the world into focus in a positive way? |
