Three things to know before visiting Iceland
Jo Payne, one of our Product Managers, has just returned from her first ever visit to Iceland and wants to share with you 3 things that she wishes she had known before: 1) Easy to visitHaving decided to travel just 3 weeks ahead of departure, I was amazed that a return flight with easyJet from Manchester was only £150. Only a 2-hour flight, but a world away. I'm already planning my next visit! 2) Icelandic food is amazingGetting psyched up for puffin and whale was an error! Fresh fillets of arctic char, whole sides of salmon or the thick, lush Icelandic yogurt, Skyur, kept me well fed and asking for more throughout the week! 3) Cold is Cool! The weather defines Iceland. Changeable, mysterious, moody but also outright glorious! Heading for a cooler summer climate, simply embellishes the weird and wonderful natural phenomena of Iceland! >> For more insights read Jo's blog >> View all Iceland holidays |

Everest Marathon for Mortals
|
1 KE leader, 1 Sherpa and 8 KE runners
"Returning home after this year's spring season in Nepal was strange. Usually nobody takes much notice, most either hardly notice that I've been away or after so many years leading KE groups have now got used to it. This season was different. On the 29th May with my friend Phanden Sherpa I ran the Everest Marathon and friends, family, work colleagues, neighbours and most people I meet are keen to know all about it." Tom Richardson, Phanden and a bunch of KE clients took on the Everest Marathon and won... they are all winners in our eyes. Read about Tom's experience and find out how well they all did. >> View Tom's Everest Marathon blog >> View Everest Marathon 2014 |

What's NEW?
Our product team have been busy beavering away creating new and exciting adventures to enjoy in 2014. With our new brochure out in the autumn, we're delighted to provide a sneaky peak at some of the holidays already online. Enjoy some winter sun, and check out our La Gomera - Jewel of the Canaries walking holiday. Although La Gomera is in the Canaries don't expect it to be hot and dusty, it's wonderfully lush and green. Far from the tourist hot spots, the island can only be reached by ferry from Tenerife. Another new addition will take you cycling through the stunning coastal mountains of Eastern Spain. Our Cheeky Cols of Costa Blanca promises to reward you with twisting road climbs, enviable year round climate, and excellent bike hire. >> View What's New in 2014

Nanga Parbat Tragedy
|
The importance of booking with ABTA
Unfortunately, we have had to cancel our trips to Pakistan over the next few months. Following the tragic murder of the group of climbers at Nanga Parbat BC on the 22 June, the FCO now advise against all but essential travel to the region of Gilgit-Baltistan. This highlights the importance of booking with an ABTA operator such as KE; all our clients have either been transferred to alternative trips or have received a full refund. This ban on travel to one of the most beautiful, but poorest, areas of the world will have a huge impact on the economy of the extremely hospitable people of the Karakoram. We are hoping for a speedy reversal of the FCO's decision, so we can return to this region as soon as possible. Dates for 2014 are already available. >> View all Karakoram Holidays

Mount Etna Makes a Blast
|
UNESCO adds volcano to list
The World Heritage Committee recently added 19 new sites to its list of places with 'outstanding universal value'. Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe, is one of them. Located on the east coast of Sicily, its eruptive history can be tracked back 500,000 years. With black lava, beautiful blue sea, and wonderful cuisine, you too can explore the upper slopes of Etna on our explosive Sicily and the Aeolian Islands holiday. Why stop there? The Hill Forts of Rajasthan and the Namib Sand Sea are also newly listed and already KE classics. Many of our adventures feature World Heritage Sites, but the highest count of all goes to our Samarkand and the Silk Road discovery tour ticking off 4 - Samarkand, Shakrisabz, Bukhara and Khiva! >> View Discovery holidays to UNESCO Sites

Why? We know what we're talking about
More and more of you return to KE year after year and we believe the main reason is our in-depth knowledge of the places we visit. A typical feedback from our latest One Week Toubkal trek was; "Colin (from the office) was on our trip. Whilst he was an excellent general addition to the team we felt this was also a real positive reflection on KE - the fact that you ensure all your staff are familiar with the experiences your clients have is excellent." Later this year you could bump into Vanessa on Kilimanjaro, Diane in Turkey, Chloe trekking to the Matterhorn, Jenni in Sri Lanka and many more of our Keswick office staff 'out-and-about'. Even the directors continually join trips; Tim will be biking in Montenegro and Bhutan with KE groups, while Glenn is just about to join an extreme sportive event - cycling around Mont Blanc in under 24hrs, 330 kms with 8000 metres of climbing! >> Learn more about KE staff
