Greetings!

We are pleased to introduce the new TESL Ontario Conference Communiqué. This short e-news bulletin will provide you with regular updates on the development of TESL Ontario's annual conference.

The Conference Communiqué will keep you informed of new and exciting changes to the format of the 41st Annual Conference that will be happening as we make the move to our new conference venue, the Allstream Centre.

Merging and Emerging Pathways through Language
TESL Ontario 41st Annual Conference
October 24 - 26, 2013

The excitement is building as your conference team launches into the work of planning our 41st annual conference.  We feel the theme "Merging and Emerging Pathways through Language" aptly reflects what's happening in our profession and also our move to the Allstream Centre.  Integration is something we often hear about from both our federal and provincial funders, and often within our own organizations, and in the interest of excellent customer service to our learners and clients, it makes sense. If you've worked in the field of English as a Second Language for any length of time, you've witnessed changes in trends and philosophies, and will continue to do so.  For some learners and clients, the pathway to achieving their goals is fairly direct, but for others it can involve many stops along the way.  And of course, it's language that is what we are about and the common element found throughout the pathway.

'Pathways' also relates to the move of our conference to the striking Allstream Centre located at Exhibition Place in Toronto.  This beautifully refurbished art deco building will provide a bright and spacious environment where delegates will enjoy ample networking space, centrally located and easily accessible exhibitors' displays, comfortable breakout rooms, and state of the art technology including free WIFI throughout the building!  Follow the link to see more:  http://www.allstreamcentre.com/

Sheraton Centre Toronto continues to be our host hotel for accommodations and our Friday night gala and you will be pleased to know that a morning and afternoon coffee break, and a light lunch, as well as the Welcome Reception and Friday Gala are all included in the registration fee.  Shuttle buses will be arranged to transport you between the Sheraton and Allstream.

The call for submissions will be out by the end of February so it's not too soon to start thinking about what you might want to present.  Watch for details around the end of February.

Mark your calendars and stay tuned for ongoing updates.

ASK US!

We know that change isn't always easy to deal with, and we anticipate there will be some questions regarding our move to the new venue.

With that in mind we invite you to "Ask Us". Send your questions to info@teslontario.org. Your frequently asked questions will be posted anonymously and responded to on the website and in the Conference Communiqué.

Q: I was just starting to feel comfortable finding my way around the Sheraton Centre. Why are we moving again?

A: We aren't leaving the Sheraton entirely. The Sheraton will continue to provide accommodations and our Friday gala will be held there as well. You'll still have ample opportunities to enjoy the many amenities that downtown Toronto offers!

Our conference has grown since we re-located to the Sheraton 5 years ago, and they were no longer able to provide sufficient breakout rooms to meet our needs.  Although Allstream centre has fewer rooms, they can accommodate more people.

You'll also appreciate that the layout of the Allstream centre makes it very easy to move from one breakout room to the next.
