We made it to the last week of school! I want to thank all our students and families for a wonderful school year.

This week will be one filled with excitement as we celebrate our 5th graders bridging to Walker on Monday, and Field Day on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please remember that you will need to have your ADDitions application approved prior to Tuesday in order to attend our Field Day activities.

Summer School starts on Tuesday, June 14. Students who attend will focus on the skills necessary to becoming a GREAT reader!

Miguel Saladin, James Kima, and David Sawma competed against students from other schools recently! All three boys did an awesome job on their sailboat cars.
Teacher of the Week!
Congratulations to Mrs. Lindenblad, kindergarten teacher and coordinator of the PatriotPlayers group! She was nominated to be our teacher of the week last week! Here are a few fun facts about Mrs. Lindenblad that you may not know!

She is supported by her husband John who can be seen volunteering with the Patriot Players, her amazing Mama, Papa Dean, and her 7 awesome siblings! Although they are far away, her family does all they can to support Winegard through donation. Her furbabies Lola, Bailey, and Kelby offer moral support by laying on top of any school work she is trying to complete at home.

She attended the University of Florida where she received a Bachelors in Fine Arts in Musical Theatre as well as Santa Fe College where she received her Educator Certificate.

She enjoys singing, acting, directing, painting, and cheering for the Gators!

She is thankful for having been taken in by the Kindergarten team her first year with open arms. It is going to be bittersweet to move in to a new grade. The love in Kindergarten is strong and she can't thank Mrs. Torres, Mrs. Mitchell, Ms.Burton, and Mrs. Suarez (her traveling neighbor) enough for all their love and support these 3 wonderful years. She is also so grateful to the Patriot Players team for working with her to realize her dreams of instilling a love of the arts in Winegard!
3rd Grade Project
We are loving the new stones that 3rd grade helped make and placed in front of the 300 building!  Students can work on their fractions while walking in line!
4th Grade Service Learning

This year, 4th grade students collected dog supplies for ADL Service dogs and Rescue. Recently, Ms. Donna, a trainer for the organization came to visit Winegard with dog handler, Vivian and rescue dog Max!

Students loved getting to meet everyone, including Max, and learning about the program. Student Council presented our Smencil earnings of $500 to Donna, and we learned that the money will help rescue two dogs!
5th Grade Visits Walker!

5th grade students had a great visit to Walker!
Lunch with Dr. Helton and Mr. B!

Another group of fantastic students paid 50 shop drops to eat lunch with Dr. Helton and Mr. B. The students enjoyed pizza, drinks, and games recently! Great job students!
Mr. Jack Hartman

Students in PreK, Kindergarten, and 1st got to enjoy a concert by Mr. Jack Hartman recently. Everyone had a wonderful time!
Media Corner

All library books were due back last Friday, May 27. Please look for any missing books.  Students will need to have returned all checked out library books and textbooks in order to get their final report cards in June.  Students will not be allowed to check out books the next school year unless books are returned or paid for.

The library will be open this summer on the following Wednesdays:  June 22, June 29, July 13 and July 20. Please stop by and check out a book and/or get on a computer and do MyOn.
We have 2 summer reading challenges this summer. Students who earn 25 hours on MyOn will be entered in for a chance to win prizes such as Toys R Us gift cards. Also, log your reading minutes this summer through the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. More information will be going home about each of these this week.
Summer Art/Writing Opportunity!
Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 to October 15, 2016. All 4th and 5th grade students are invited to participate in an essay contest. This year, the theme of the essay is "Honoring Hispanic American Heroes."

Fourth and Fifth grade essays should address the following:

American history is full of Hispanic-American heroes who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to protect Floridians and people all over the world. Using several sources with varying points of view, write about a Hispanic-American hero who has helped make Florida a safe place to live, work, and learn.

Students in grades K-3 have a chance to win a cash prize by submitting artwork. The 2016-17 school years' theme is "Honoring Hispanic American Heroes: Veterans, Military, Law Enforcement and First Responders."
