On Tuesday, March 1, our 4th and 5th graders will take the FSA writing test. Both our teachers and students have been working hard in class to prepare for this test and I feel confident that our students will do their very best! However, we need your help! Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest on Monday night. On Tuesday morning, make sure your child gets a good healthy breakfast! Finally, make sure your student arrives to school on time!
As always, I encourage you to check your student's agenda for homework assignments. If your student has access to a computer, make sure they log onto iReady every day. We are looking for students to complete an hour of reading lessons and an hour of math lessons each week.
Have a fantastic week!
Sincerely,
Dr. Julie Helton, Principal
Winegard Elementary School

Famous Author Comes to Winegard!

Eric Litwin, the author of a few Pete the Cat books, came to Winegard recently. He shared songs and even read one of his books to our Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students. Everyone had a blast!
|
Students in Mrs. Seiler's 1st grade class learned about the parts of a plant recently. Mrs. Seiler asked them to create each part of the plant with playdoh. We thought the kids did a great job!
|
Nearly 150 Winegard students enjoyed an ice cream party last week! Students celebrated making their AR goals for the 2nd quarter! We can't wait to see how many students join us for the next ice cream party!

Pasta for Pennies has begun. We need everyone's help to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. All of the money we raise will benefit children who have certain cancers. Leukemia and Lymphoma are both types of cancers that affect the blood and bone marrow. 8% of children with cancer have leukemia. Our pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters will go to help these children. The more money we raise, the more children we can help!
Turn in your coins and bills to your teacher. Each week the money will be counted, and we will let you know which class is in the lead. The class that raises the most money between now and March 2 will win a PASTA PARTY from Olive Garden.
Grade Level Leaders for Week 2!
K - Ms. Suarez
1st - Ms. Marrero
2nd - Ms. Holcombe
3rd - Mrs. Stenberg
4th - Ms. Alch 5th - Ms. Carr

WINEGARD ELEMENTARY STUDENTS JUMP ROPE FOR THEIR HEARTS AND HELP SAVE LIVES
Students at Winegard Elementary in Orlando are jumping at the chance to fight heart disease and stroke, our nation's No. 1 and No. 4 killers. On Thursday, March 17, Winegard Elementary will host its 10th annual Jump Rope For Heart event to raise money for the American Heart Association, which funds lifesaving heart and stroke research and community and educational programs for our youth.
Jump Rope For Heart teaches students how physical fitness benefits the heart and shows them that volunteering can be a fun and positive experience for the whole community. The need to educate children about the importance of physical activity couldn't be timelier. According to recent studies, about one-third of children ages 2 to 19 are overweight and obese.
For over 18 years, millions of students have played jumping ropes and learned about heart health and how nutrition and physical activity can help prevent heart disease and stroke. Jump Rope For Heart is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and SHAPE America-Society of Health and Physical Educators.
Important Dates:
Money Due Date: March 11, 2016
Event Date: March 17, 2016
