We have had a great first week of school! I have really enjoyed visiting all the classrooms and seeing the students. I love seeing all the students in their school uniform! Please make sure to check and sign your student's planner every day. If you haven't yet, please look for the Patriot folder that your student brought home. Please fill out the important documents and return to school as soon as possible.

Our first SAC meeting will be on Tuesday, September 1 at 5:30 PM. Please join us to learn about Winegard and help make important decisions about our school!

Please remember that the gates open for students at 8:00 AM. Students will be able to eat a free breakfast from 8:00 AM to
8:30 AM. Students are expected to be in class at 8:30 AM.

FSA Testing
FSA Validity Study Due September 1

The Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) validity study is due for delivery to the state Board of Education on September 1. Here's what we know and what we don't know about what happens next.

We know:
  • The study will address whether the FSA test questions were aligned adequately to the Florida State Standards.
  • The study will address how well the FSA tests were administered, using a computer-based online system.
  • The state will review the validity study and decide how to release and use the results of the tests.
  • The state will set "cut scores" based on the test results to distinguish five levels of student proficiency on each test (Level 1 through Level 5). Level 3 and above will count as proficient (or passing). Selected teachers from across the state are participating in this process next week. The state will present the cut scores to a "reactor panel" of people who will comment on their fairness and rigor in mid-September
We don't know:
  • If or when the state will release the FSA scores to schools and students.
  • If the state does release FSA scores, whether or when they will issue school grades for 2014-15.
We will keep you informed.
