Principal's Message

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for a great school year! Your support of Winegard Elementary is so appreciated!

Please find, in this final edition for the 2014-2015 school year, highlights of our most recent events and a glimpse into next school year. We will send a couple of email and phone updates throughout the summer. If your child was invited to summer school, it is important that they attend. Please return the form to their teacher this week.

If you would like for your child to attend summer school and you have not received a form, please contact Ida Arias Seijo at [email protected].

I hope you have a wonderful summer and thank you again.

Sincerely,

Dr. Julie Helton, Principal

Kindergarten Registration: Happening NOW!
Please encourage anyone who has a child who turns 5 years old on or before September 1, to register NOW for kindergarten.

Waiting until the week before school begins could result in the child not being able to start school on the first day.

A Gift for Music

This very special, free program for learning to play the violin is a blessing to our third, fourth and fifth graders. The students performed their final concert for the year on Friday. Fifth graders received certificates from Mr. Clinton and a wish from Dr. Helton that they continue learning about music and the arts.

M.A.G.I.C. Graduation

Fifth graders completed the M.A.G.I.C. program, under the direction of Deputy RayAnn King. MAGIC stands for Mentoring, Advising, Guiding and Instructing Children.

The purpose of the M.A.G.I.C. program is to educate our 5th grade students with a focus on drug resistance, character building and positive decision making. The 10 week M.A.G.I.C. curriculum was developed by OCSO school resource officers in order to provide us with the flexibility to educate our children on the topics that are relevant to our community.

The final assignment for the program was an essay about what students learned in the program. One student from each class was chosen as having the best essay to read during the graduation.

Thank you, Hair In The Spirit: A Special Partner in Education

Some very lucky fifth grade girls who signed up for a day of beauty were treated like royalty with our Partner in Education, Hair In The Spirit. The girls learned about self esteem, hygiene and beauty tips, and they got to take home a gift of beauty products! What a wonderful day. Thank you!
