Thank you, Play with a Purpose!

This amazing Orlando-based company donated 25 new bikes to Winegard ES, some of which were awarded in our AR Bike Challenge last month. They also brought us ten hand-painted bookshelves, books, and bookmarks.

In addition, they took up a collection at their business conference and gave Winegard ES an additional monetary donation. Play with a Purpose has made a difference in our lives!
Pasta for Pennies
Way to go, Winegard!

We raised over $1500 to donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through our Pasta for Pennies fundraiser. Your donations will help to fund blood cancer research. See link: http://www.schoolandyouth.org/school/Controller

Mrs. Wismer's class raised the most money with a total of $190.56. They will be treated to a pasta party from the Olive Garden! Thank you to everyone who participated.
Fifth Grade Field Trip to UCF
5th Grade UCF fieldtrip
As a culminating activity to six weeks of AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) lessons taught by UCF Burnett Honors College students, our fifth graders visited UCF for ACE Day. ACE stands for Achieve a College Education.

While ACE has multiple objectives, its overarching purpose is to help young people understand that a college education is accessible to every individual who desires one, who demonstrates genuine interest in learning, who works to overcome the most serious obstacles and who, in the
end, achieves academic excellence.

During ACE Day, the students toured classrooms, laboratories, the library, the student union and campus residential and recreational facilities. They spent the day in what amounts to "a living laboratory" attending several interactive academic presentations with members of UCF's
distinguished faculty. As I welcomed the students back to campus, their excitement for a college-bound future was electric!
Black History Month: Then and Now
Backstage with our "Then and Now" Models
Winegard rounded out Black History Month, by presenting "Black History: Then and Now" last Friday evening.

Thank you to Brittany Bonner, Americorps VISTA, for organizing the show. It was a fun-filled evening with modeling, singing, dancing, games and prizes.
