Greater Chicago Chapter
Illinois
The chapter sponsored the Auditions and Evaluations program, Sunday, October 25, 2015 & Sunday, November 8, 2015 1:00 pm at Cambridge Studio 3831 McCoy Dr., Aurora, IL For those of you who have never tried this program, it's a terrific educational opportunity of harp students of all levels. The two-day event provides an opportunity for students to perform and receive feedback from invited adjudicators, to listen to one another, and to strengthen basic music theory skills with a stepped set of diagnostic worksheets/activities.
On Day 1, two adjudicators listen to students perform one or two selections, and provide written and verbal comments. Areas of evaluation include dynamics, phrasing, rhythmic and note accuracy, tempo, tone, technique, and stage presence. Students are encouraged to listen to and evaluate at least one other student performance (either before or after their own performance). Following Day 1 students will have between two and six weeks to work with their private teachers on the comments received from the adjudicators. On Day 2, students return and perform the same selections. The adjudicators work with students in a master-class setting to discuss improvements and further suggestions for the works performed.
Everyone who fully participates in the Auditions & Evaluations receives a Certificate of Participation from the American Harp Society!
The Chicago chapter is following up the A & E program with a very special honors recital, during who have made the most improvement between the two dates will be invited to perform Chicago Harp Day on Sunday, November 15, 2015 held at Lyon & Healy Recital Hall. In addition to the honors recital, Chicago Harp Day will also include career talks by Sarah Bullen and Liz Cifani, music browsing and camaraderie. This is going to be a great afternoon for harpists and harp enthusiasts alike! For more information visit the chapter Facebook page, at www.facebook.com/ChicagoAHS.
