BE SURE TO FILE YOUR ANNUAL IRS FORM 990-N
IT'S QUICK, EASY, AND VERY IMPORTANT
|
Every year, American Harp Society, Inc. chapters are required by the IRS to file a very simple, easy return online, the Form 990-N. It must be submitted within 4 months + 15 days after the end of your fiscal year. For the many chapters that use a calendar year, that due date is May 15th.
We have had inquiries from chapters that received an email about a security breach on the 990-N filing website, asking that they reset their password. The site was compromised, but no secure data was stolen. It is safe to use the site to file; just reset your password and continue as usual.
Failing to file your Form 990-N can have serious consequences. If it is not filed for three years, your chapter will lose its tax-exempt status under the American Harp Society, Inc. group exemption, and its ability to accept tax-deductible donations. The chapter would then have to apply on its own to the IRS for exempt status. That process includes a difficult, lemgthy application, may require legal counsel, takes weeks to months, and is not guaranteed to be successful. Even if you don't currently receive any donations, protect your valuable non-profit status with a quick and easy Form 990-N online submission.
To help our chapters comply with the Form 990-N requirements, AHS, Inc. has prepared a brief FAQ document that provides detailed "how to's" and helpful information. Please download it, review and confirm that the designated person in your chapter takes care of your timely Form 990-N filing. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the AHS Bookkeeper Jan Bishop or Executive Director Kathryn McManus.
