Many people enjoy visiting a spa while on business or vacation. The soothing atmosphere and pampering treatments can relieve built-up stress, helping to restore mind and body. Why not re-create that spa-like atmosphere in your master bath at home? Keep reading and we will show you how.
What's New?

"What's new?" Is the question I heard most attendees asking exhibitors at the 2015 National Association of Home Builders, International Home Show in Las Vegas. People (me included) are always looking for the newest and most interesting products to introduce to our clients and open up the world to a whole other realm of possible. I heard a statistic a couple years back, that every year there are 100 new products introduced into the home building/remodeling industry. This number didn't shock me. What shocked me this year is that it didn't seem like they've introduced new products but instead focused on perfecting existing products.

Instead of making a new Nest Thermostat manufacturers are looking at ways that they can enhance it to work together with your washer and dryer to save you money and conserve energy. Cloud based computer systems that would integrate with completely different software to allow for a more seamless workflow. Instead of having a space for the shower and a place for the tub, companies are looking at how to incorporate them both into one comfortable and usable space. There were terrific collaborations that really appeared to be creating the "Smart Home"

Besides walking the show floor for three days, I also finished my NAHB Green Building Certification. Beginning spring 2015, I will be an NAHB Certified Green Builder and can offer that certification service to clients. What was great about the class was the recognition that we already use most of the practices of the NGBS (National Green Building Standard) level in our homes and remodel projects.

Please visit our Facebook page, where I will be posting pictures of new and updated products that caught my eye at the show.

10 Elements of a Spa-like Master Bath

Are you longing to create a serene retreat in your home? Perhaps you are envisioning a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere for your master bathroom. Once you have this tranquil space at home, you can eliminate the hassle of driving to the spa after work or on the weekends. Fortunately, many of the same amenities intrinsic to a luxury spa are now available for your home. Let us help you custom design your perfect master bathroom sanctuary, integrating several of the following elements:

1. Freestanding soaking tub offers a restful soak that may soothe your jangled nerves better than a noisy whirlpool. Install a decorative light fixture overhead to create a focal point in your bathroom--a rich visual that exudes style, elegance, and sophistication.

2. Walk-in shower with a frameless glass enclosure or an open doorless shower--both provide a welcome sense of expansiveness. A rain head fixture mimics the gentle caress of a warm summer rain shower, while body sprays and a handheld shower direct a more forceful flow of water to specific areas of your body.

3. Steam shower helps relieve tension through moist heat. Essential oils used for Aromatherapy can be dispersed through the steam outlet. The shower may also be equipped with an LED Chromatherapy lighting system.

4. Double sinks or double vanities offer the convenience of personalized grooming stations. Storage space designed to fit your particular needs can bring a more positive start to your morning. Delight your visual senses with unique sinks that may include cascading water features.

  5. Separate toilet room allows for privacy when there is more than one person using your master bathroom. Design this room to be comfortably large and introduce natural light through transom windows or tubular skylights.

6. Large format porcelain tile with the look of limestone or marble provides an elegant, yet practical alternative to natural stone. For bathroom floors, choose a tile with sufficient traction.

7. Electric radiant underfloor heating offers the luxury of stepping onto a warm tile floor after showering or bathing. Certain heating mats are safe for wet locations, so you can even warm your shower bench and shower floor.

8. Beverage bar lets you have your first cup of coffee while getting ready in the morning, without having to leave the bathroom. Or you can relax in bed with a glass of wine and a good book, before calling it a day.

9. Television--wall mounted flat screen or hidden in a mirror--will let you catch up with your favorite show. It is advisable to select a waterproof flat screen TV for bathroom installations.

10. Large window openings and glass exterior doors contribute natural light, ventilation, and access to inspirational views of the outdoors. The doors could also lead to an outdoor shower or patio.
