St. Michael's Academy

Happy Easter to all. The day off on Monday was restful after the holiday, but that didn't stop us from hitting the ground running. Throughout the week, both the students and faculty alike could be seen throughout the halls tracking down their "prayer pals"to drop off a card to the one for whom each was assigned to pray throughout the Lenten season. It is always nice to see the smiles with which the students receive these cards and to know that each one of us is connected to others through Christ.

We look forward to next week when we will hopefully use the momentum and good weather to carry us through to another successful week at SMA. We look forward to next Wednesday when our 8th grade students will be hosting the annual Poetry Cafe.

Enjoy the weekend.

From The Classroom of Ms. Brown - Grade 6 & 7 Science
Hmmmm....Very Interesting

Grade Six is studying Clues to Earth's past.  They became geologists, paleontologists, and or archaeologists for the day and investigated the formation of fossils.

Some fossils consist of original parts of the organism. Most fossils are formed as dead organisms are buried by layers of sediment that harden to form sedimentary rocks. Some may think that fossils are not forming today.  Students explored how molds are made from an original organism that may have fallen into soft sediment. The students pictured have made a clay-like substance and pressed their "organism" into the material and created a mold. They then modeled what happens when the the fossil has dissolved and sediment washes into the mold and is deposited or crystals forms.  The cast made resembles the original figure. Students can compare their casts with the object.

Perfect Attendance

Congratulations to our perfect attendance dress-down winners! In order to qualify for the weekly drawing, a student must have no absences, tardiness or early dismissals the previous week of school. We select one from PreK - 2nd grade, one from 3rd - 5th grade and one from 6th - 8th grade. Congrats to this week's winners!

Snow Days

Even though the weather has been FABULOUS, Mother Nature is always unpredictable.  In the event of inclement weather, St. Michael's Academy follows the Springfield Public Schools cancellation notices (due to bus transportation). If Springfield Public Schools cancel school - we cancel school, if they delay school - we delay school. Please check your local television stations for announcements.

We will do our best to send out a Blackboard Connect announcement to our families as well.

And we pray in a special way for all our recently departed.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Our prayers continue to be with Mr. Rancitelli, who is undergoing treatment for a cancer recurrence. Each week, a different homeroom sends him cards. If your family would like to send a card, please send it to school with your child, clearly marked for Mr. Rancitelli. His family has set up a blog to write about this experience.Click here to read the blog.
