St. Michael's Academy
  :

Many people think that Catholic Schools Week is just about kids having fun. But there's really much more to it. The real purpose of Catholic Schools Week is to get the word out about Catholic education and to show appreciation to the many people who support our mission.

And that's just what we did. Our students wrote thank you letters to pastors, entertained grandparents, volunteers and friends of St. Michael's Academy at our Warm Winter Wishes program, sent notes to soldiers and raised money for the Annual Catholic Appeal -to name just a few things we did. And I think they had fun while they did it. But just to make sure they know we appreciate them, we'll have some (delayed) fun on Monday when we celebrate Student Appreciation Day!

And a special thank you to all of you for choosing to educate your child at St. Michael's Academy. Your investment in your child's education today is sure to bring you great returns in the future. We've got the data to prove it! Click here for information from our friends at Notre Dame.

I hope to see many of you on Saturday night as we finish up our week with our annual Mangia Mingle Pasta Supper!

Peace.

Ms. Ann E. Dougal
Principal

From The Classroom of Mrs. McQuade - Grade 5

What's The Matter?!

The 5th grade students have been learning about physical properties of matter in science class. After reviewing what matter is and how elements combine to make many kinds of matter, the students have discovered how certain physical properties can be used to describe matter.

On Tuesday, the students worked together to observe the shape and color of a small box. They measured the dimensions of the box and used this information to calculate the volume of the box. They measured the mass of the box and used their measurements to determine the density.

In the next few weeks, the 5th graders will be discovering how matter can undergo physical and chemical changes and how these changes affect the matter.
